“Excellent Jungle Oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

As soon as my wife and I arrived at the Be Tulum we were promptly escorted be Jesus to a large jungle suite (#7) complete with a private plunge pool indoor and outdoor showers. The room was exactly as described and depicted on the website. The AC was cold (apparently an extravagance in Tulum)The food was excellent and the service both waitstaff and turndown was prompt. We spent 6 nights at the Be and loved every second of it. It's quiet and secluded and the beach setup is fabulous. Overall a great place to stay in Tulum.
Thanks,
Chris & Tara

Room Tip: All 20 of the rooms are as described and I was happily on the beach side of the first tower. You re...

Upon arrival we were assigned suite# 2 which is right next to the road (farthest from the beach) and above front desk. This means constant sound of cars passing by (not my idea of a jungle/ beach vacation) and little privacy.

We informed the staff about our concern and they offered to give us a different room and they invited us for dinner at the hotel restaurant, which, by the way, has great food. Although this gesture made a good impresion, I thought the staff in general was kind of snotty (I wont go into the details of every minor incident here) but lets just say I did not feel the warm service and hospitality of a top rated mexican hotel.

We also joined a yoga class. The instructor was great (very patient and attentive to the students) and the view from the deck is a beautiful lush green jungle, but this spot is very near workshop and I found the sound of powertools during class a bit distracting.

We loved our stay at Be Tulum so much! The beach, pool, restaurant and bar are fabulous. The rooms could use some updating (& full length mirrors!) but we got a lot of use out of private pool and the a/c worked fabulously. We walked up and down the beach a lot and agreed we stayed in the best spot.

Let me just echo what so many others below me have stated. This place is amazing. It's amazing because it's carefree and relaxed and not ostentatious. It's amazing because the food is not "resort food" but rather fresh, and well prepared (I kid you not, I washed the chef meet fisherman on the beach outside the resort and buy the fish for the evenings meal. Are you kidding me?) It's amazing because it's beautifully decorated and it makes the W Hotel chain look like a girl with too much makeup on. It's amazing because either (1) birds or (2) ocean waves wake you up. You eat on the beach. You drink on the beach. You shower at an outdoor shower. Everyone is insanely friendly and the spa across the street will beat the pants off of any spa in NYC or anywhere for that matter. Really, if you're debating hotels and where to stay and the benefits and the professional photos, and all of the above-just stop. Book this place, be done with it, and get ready to literally feel the way you thought you would but never quite did on vacation.

Room Tip: Oceanview rooms with a pool. Trust me.

After closely looking at many different accommodation options in Tulum, we finally decided on Be Tulum and we recommend it 100%!

This hotel is unique and one of the most relaxing experiences anywhere on the planet. The staff makes the difference thanks to their excellent service and super positive attitude. The food is excellent and the location is superb. You can really connect with the nature in Tulum at this hotel as it is right on the beach and minutes away from the natural reserve.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is right on the beach under the shade of coconut palm trees. The cocktails and live music are really excellent. The yoga classes are unforgettable, set up in an open air terrace, overlooking the tree canopy. The spa is also a luxurious and exotic treat.

Do not hesitate in booking here if you are considering it.

Room Tip: While there is only one sea view room, all of the rooms are enveloped by the nature and sounds of wa...

Listen, there is no other choice in Tulum. Coming all the way from New Zealand on our honeymoon, we were nothing short of obsessive with researching what we wanted in a hotel long before we booked anything. We were so happy from the second we arrived and our choice was affirmed at every moment through our stay. I can honestly advise you to go ahead with Be if you are torn between options, with a few disclaimers/factors to keep in mind:

1.Be Tulum is a place for couples on romantic and private vacations - so while guests were all wonderfully polite, we were relieved that there was no expectation to interact or chat with other guests. Don't come here if you're looking for social interaction - it's a special place to focus on someone special. The staff get it as well - rather than giving us all the info when we arrived after 32 hours of flying/transit, Jesús gave us just the essential info to get us settled and picked up with any questions later in our stay - perfect sense of awareness and absolutely no checkin dramas here at Be Tulum.

2. Be Tulum is not a "Secrets" or "Dreams" and it's not trying to be. The rooms at Be in my opinion are quite luxurious - think wooden floors, chic decor, crisp white linens and a Cali-king bed. Bear in mind that as a hotel zone, Tulum is quite minimally developed and there are really no big "resort" style properties in Tulum. For this reason, we found the air con, jacuzzi, spacious room and outdoor shower really special in room J10. It was upstairs and very private. The decor is well thought out and I absolutely loved the chic and sophisticated design of the property as a whole.

3. Mexico is a 3rd world country. Forget this at your peril! My sensitive gut didn't cope too well and I was struck quite severely with 24hr gastro during our honeymoon. A testament to the hotel is that the beautiful design, cleanliness and luxury caused us to completely forget about food safety awareness! In fairness to Be Tulum, we ate at many restaurants and there is no reason to believe it was the food there - which for every meal bar dinner was delicious (which I will get to in a moment). The staff were incredible, even offering to go to a pharmacy for me and get some electrolytes! Everyone's different, and like I said I'm pretty sensitive, but I would encourage anyone travelling to Mexico to remember the golden rule: Cook it, wash it, peel it, or forget it!

4. Breakfast and lunch was a winner - try the fresh grapefruit juice in the morning and fresh tacos from the grill in the afternoon. Really really good. Dinner was a let down, and we never gave it a second shot. The steak everywhere in Mexico was soooo tough and disappointing so not an issue unique to Be Tulum. As the restaurant was empty apart from one other table of two, we were surprised that our mains took about an hour to arrive. Turns out they had out the food on the warmer while searching for the bottle of wine we had ordered. So the meal service as a whole was just a little off there. We probably should have said something at the time but it's not really the kiwi way to complain!

I've given the practical aspects and some pointers but in summary this resort is something special. Being from London and New Zealand respectively, and having travelled the world far and wide, my husband and I were quite struck with the beauty of Be Tulum far beyond what I can describe in a review. In fact we have decided to return in the coming years. This is a big statement for us as we tend to want to try new things, and Tulum is definitely not an easy destination to get to from New Zealand.

We took walks along the stunning beach in either direction and were so relieved that our Trip Adviser research had guided our decision to book Be Tulum, so go with your instinct and you will not be disappointed.

This was our second visit to BeTulum. Once again, we were not disappointed! This time, we splurged on the ocean suite for 7 days....pure paradise❤️ The food was even better than before! More menu options, beautiful salads and smoothies, filling breakfast. The nightly bonfire (ponchos provided) were magical, especially under the full moon! One night there was a movie on the beach....enchanting! The new spa just opened up, but we never got to check it out. I did take advantage of the daily yoga class, overlooking the jungle...nice! This is our place! Looking forward to visiting again in 2015! Thank you!

Room Tip: If you can splurge, the ocean view suites are amazing:)
