Be Tulum is an exquisite hotel. The rooms are unique and well appointed. We loved the tasteful bohemian decor, the private balcony, outdoor shower(!!!) and Jacuzzi bathtub with soaking salts. The grounds are gorgeous, the food tasty, beverages cold and creative, and the company good. Excellent live music. We splurged on our honeymoon and really enjoyed our stay.

However, for $600 a night, for an "ocean front" we won't go back. You could see the ocean if you craned your neck, leaned over the balcony, used your imagination and accepted the tiny sliver of blue you could squint and see made it "ocean front." The craftmanship of the rooms left something to be desired and there were problems with doors. We value spending our money in other ways and found the place didn't provide much more that other hotels we have visited in Tulum, minus the elite status. For us, we found A LOT of honeymooning company at this "it" destination. It felt like we were on honeymoon island and found it very challenging to find a private space away from the other couples staying at the hotel. The scene was great, we just wanted something more private. No fault of the hotel. The beach is small and each cabana seemed occupied. There are better beaches for one-fifth of the price. You are paying for something else. The clientele seemed more concerned with looking good than swimming in the ocean. We felt a bit stifled by the scene, although I can see that many people would love it! Be Tulum caters to the NYC/LA crowd. And its incredible. Just not private. Or for us.

Room Tip: Ground level rooms have private pools but no privacy. Upper rooms have private hot tubs.

Truly amazing place, if u love nature and luxury together that is the perfect place. The small buildings of wood and stone truly blends in with the surrounding jungle. The little alley ways going from the reception to the beach are truly gorgeous. It's quiet, just the sounds of the birds and jungle. They first gave us a room with plunge pool which was beautiful but we live in the Carribean so we don't really care about the pool we prefered the rooms on top floor with jacuzzi bath in room. The only thing I have to say is that you don't have any privacy in your pool even if it's really nicely done , with hamac and chairs.( they should add a bambou wall or more plants) Our room on top floor was literally in the trees with in and out shower, we felt like Tarzan but with the comfort. I am pregnant and needed to be in a good bed, and it's was perfect, tastefully decorated, and air conditionned that works when u need it (it's not the case eveywhere). The whole staff was very warm and helpfull, Jesus at desk and all the waiters, cleaning lady...The restaurant was excellent and beautiful, great great breakfast.
I thought the spa was soooo expensive, I live in St Barths and it's more expensive then here, they gave me a pass to try the whirlpool and pool at spa, well I admit it, it's worth the money!! The place is out of this world of beauty. I was convinced and booked a prenatal massage, FANTASTIC...Overall this hotel is not cheap, but the big breakfast is included and if I could have stayed a month I would have...

We hear this is the nicest hotel in Tulum, but it is not luxurious. I find the jungle setting a little claustrophobic and there is no wow factor. The rooms are decent, although the bed is a bit hard. We haven't used our pool at all, as it is uninviting and not at all private (the whole purpose, right?). The main pool is tiny, but OK. The food and service are nice, in a casual way given that many at the restaurant/beach are working holidayers that don't seem that coordinated or professional. The beach is often windy and while it is beautiful, the water seems greasy and has a fair bit if kelp in it. I had expected great sunsets, but no.

The reception staff are great and have given great tips on local restaurants. There are some good restaurants along the stretch of road along the beach.

We visited the sister hotel 2 doors along - Casa Magna (it was Pablo Escobar's house in the 80s) - and prefer the open breezy feel there, but there is no pool.

The spa across the road (Yaan) is fabulous. All the massages have been excellent and inexpensive and the relaxation spaces are wonderful. The whole design works really well. If only the hotel had the same feeling.

The internet is medium in speed, but the real problem is the inability to make phone calls. There is no cell coverage and there and no landlines, so the only place you might be able to make a phone/skype call is the tiny lobby, which is not conducive to the odd work call that is necessary while away. Even that dropped for me 6 times in 30 minutes.

Dear "OzEnigma",

Thanks for the feedback, it's always helpful to us. We are sorry to read that you were expecting some things to be different. Tulum is not a modern city, and that is part of its magic.

The cell phone service is a bit weak on this part of the country, and there's really nothing we can do about it. We have a good WiFi on the hotel, but we understand that you might not find it as useful to conduct business. We are sorry about it.

It's nice to know you liked the hotel and loved the spa.

We hope to see you again soon on this beautiful part of the world.

Be Tulum is pefect. Beautifully laid out like jungle bungalows, with stunning outdoor areas open to the beach, nice infinity pool...and no children under 12. It's on the best stretch of Tulum sand, and the staff is extremely friendly. Definitely the most luxurious accommodation I've experienced in Tulum while still maintaining an intimate feel.

The spa and yoga studio are beautifully designed - all contemporary architecture using local materials. The food and cocktails were all delicious, and at the outdoor bar in the evenings they had some low key entertainment - a tango band or "world music" trio.

Be careful when you go though -- We were there in late May/June and it rained nonstop for five days straight. There aren't many covered areas so in the monsoon rains, your options are pretty limited!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms all have a plunge pool while 2nd floor rooms each have a big jacuzzi and a balcon...

Be Tulum was fantastic!! It's a nice break from the rest of the world. Good service - good everything! The privacy in the rooms with private pool was a good way to totally relax. Remember to go see the sunrise :-)

This place is amazing. Perfect location, fantastic food, beautiful rooms and outstanding service. We spent the first few nights of our honeymoon here and loved every second. Best hotel in the area (we wanted to stay and checked some of the others out).

Room Tip: Room 19 or 20 if you can afford them (the only beachfront rooms)!

The hotel rooms were spacious and unique. Ours had an outdoor and indoor shower with a small pool just outside the room. We had complete privacy. We were there for a wedding and the hotel did an excellent job with putting on the bride and groom's dream wedding. If you want a true romantic get-away, this is an ideal spot.

Room Tip: There are some rooms with both an indoor and outdoor pool. These feel especially exotic.
