“A home from home in Tulum”
Reviewed 13 July 2011

We pre-booked our stay online at Maison Tulum and when we arrived, there was a mix-up with our booking - we'd paid for the penthouse room but were instead put in an alternative room. Upon realising the mistake, the friendly owner was very apologetic and saw to it that we were moved to the penthouse room with as little hassle as possible. Although we had initially paid for 'room only', we received a continental breakfast each morning as way of compensation for the mix up.

Maison Tulum is a lovely relaxed little hotel in downtown Tulum. Our room was very clean and spacious, with a little private balcony. There was air conditioning in the room and also a fridge, which was a bonus for cooling beers and wine in. We could also easily connect to wi-fi in our room.

The owner was very friendly and did all he could to make sure we felt at home there. What really made me fall in love with the place, however, was the selection of cats that lived within the hotel. As an animal lover, it was really nice to see them wandering around and the friendly little things would even come and sit in our room if we left the door open. On one occasion, I came in from the balcony to find one of the cats casually curled up in the chair!

The hotel has its own bicycle hire scheme so we were able to hire bicycles for 50 pesos each for the day and cycle to the Tulum beach ruins. The bikes were in excellent condition, compared to the knackered old bikes we later hired in Mahahual.

Great hotel - would visit again!

Room Tip: Tip - book the penthouse room - there is a little more space and also a private balcony

This is a great choice for staying in town. The rooms are big, very clean, the hotel has a lot of character, and the staff is extremely helpful. We had a maintenance issue with our car and the owner even called a garage for us and told them to expect us. I cannot recommend them enough!!!

Room Tip: Book the penthouse. It's very reasonably priced and you get lots of extra room.

I got there sick from the heat and they took care of me like no other (from giving me tips on how to prevent it, to cooling the room for me, to bringing me chicken soup and rice next to my bed!). When i got better, the nice treatment continued. The place is lovely, the price reasonable, the food amazing and the staff was nice and attentive. Would highly recommend this place!

Room Tip: Great view and AC on room 4.

Inexpensive place to stay on a fishing vacation. Bed was comfortable and room was a decent size. It was nice to have a fridge in the room. Has a central outdoor area where guests mingle in the evening, talking about the events of the day over a beverage or two. It is about two blocks to the collectivo and there are lots of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Rooms 1 and 2 face away from the street and are quieter than the others.

Architectural charm makes this hotel a great choice in central Tulum. Comfortable, cool, cats! The owner speaks a variety of languages. Continental breakfast in the shaded cafe with a small stream running by your table.

A charming little hotel in the centre of Tulum. The hotel is in a garden setting with lots of free form architecture and tropical plants in the atrium of the hotel. We had a large, well appointed quiet room attended to by lovely staff and owner. It was competitvely priced with all the ordinary hotel/motels on the main boulevard in Tulum. The hotel is two blocks off the main street and consequently much quieter than anyplace else we looked at. The hotel also has a bakery/restuarant attached. Just a great little gem.

Maison Tulum is beautiful, great service all around, hot water in the showers, and far enough from the beach so that you are not always sticky and salty!!! Only a block off the main drag of restaruants, shops & bars in Tulum pueblo...and only a 5 minute cab ride to the beach. Will definitely stay here again!
