My wife, our 6-year old and I stayed at Villa Las Estrellas for almost a week just after Christmas 2010. The hotel is a great place if you want to be right on the stretch of amazingly pristine and beautiful beach but want to get away from the touristy, busy beaches and impersonal service that you would get at a big resort. The owners, Simone (an Italian who has been living in Mexico for the last 8 years) and his wife Thais (who is Brazilian) have created a wonderfully relaxed and comfortable atmosphere at the hotel, which they officially opened in June '10.
We were in suite 1 (of only 6), which opens onto the beach and was very large, airy and comfortable for all three of us. Whether lounging in the hammock in our terrace facing the carribbean or sitting on the beach, we had just enough privacy and safety to feel very much 'at home' during our stay. Even during rainy or windy evenings we were able to stay 'outside' on our terrace, which avoided getting cagey in our room... in fact, other than for sleep we didn't spend much time in the room. The terrace, room and large bathroom were exceptionally clean, comfortable and nicely decorated.
The restaurant is perfectly small and cozy. The menu has enough range that other than a few lunches we didn't need to go anywhere else to eat. The quality of the food and the cuisines is top notch, lots of seafood and a signature paella that is not to be missed! Great breakfasts too.
The staff are all amazing. The quality of service leaves nothing to be desired, and everyone was so attentive, helpful and considerate; as a bonus, Henrique makes mean margharitas and pina coladas. All the staff were very accomodating in terms of flexibility around when, where or what we wanted to eat.
All in all, it was a perfect place to stay in every way, and we'd strongly recommend it, whether for a fun family holiday, a romantic getaway or just to relax on the beach away from the noisy and busy parts of the carribbean! We talked to other hotel guests and a few local expats who come there frequently for meals or to just hang out on the beach, and nobody had anything but accolades for the great food, friendly service and comfortable set-up.
We can't wait to go back to Villa Las Estrellas and have already started hatching plans to take the place over for a week or so with 5 other couples.
