lack of atmosphere. the pool looks like a health hazard.

air conditioning was good because the rooms were so damn hot.

cheap accom so cannot complain but it wasn't somewhere you want to hang around to meet people if that is what you are looking for in a hostel.

Last summer I backpacked through central America and when I got to Chalupa I was amazed at how clean, comfortable and affordable it was! The staff is very friendly. The beds are full sized. They have a pool and a rooftop BAR/terrace and they also show movies on the roof at night!!
They have free wifi, book exchange and free breakfast!
It is cheap and close to the beach and the Tulum Mayan Ruins. It is true that it is more like a hotel then a hostel. It is one of those places that makes you want to stay forever!
I actually returned one year later. =)

I came here on the recommendation of the owners of another hostel in town (they were booked up) and then just couldn't leave. This is one of those hostels that is obviously run by travelers. The shared rooms all have double sized mattresses on the bunk beds which you can share with a travel buddy for a small charge (making it a really reasonable rate per person). Each shared room also has it's own bathroom, unlike most hostels. The staff is all really friendly and happy to help you find your way to wherever you want to go. They also rent bicycles (bring your own headlamp for night time biking), which are a must for getting to the beaches and for zipping to the other side of town for tacos!

I stayed here for 4 nights with a friend this April, we stayed in a private room with our own bathroom. The room was clean, the location of the hostel was perfect, across the street from a market just a short walk from downtown. The kitchen was awesome, we used it everyday. It didn't bother us, but you're not allowed to cook meat in the kitchen. The only thing that really bothered us was the staff. There were 2 staff at the desk, a woman and a man, that were incredibly rude and unhelpful, such a disappointment considering the hostel was perfect otherwise. If the staff has an attitude adjustment, this would be a a perfect hostel.

We stayed for 4 nights in this great hostel in Tulum. Although a lot of people talk about the Weary Traveller this is a great place to stay as well. It is a little (10 min or so) walk from the busstation but it worth the walk. The staff is very friendly and very helpfull. The hostel is clean, the beds are HUGE and good (you can share a bed if you want, that is what we did for 1 night) and the breakfast is good. You can rent bikes for a few dollars for 24hrs and they show movies on the rooftopterras every few nights! We definately recommend this hostel if you are planning to stay in Tulum!

We stayed for 4 days and it was perfect. We booked the double room which has its own bathroom and air conditioning. The hostel was really cute and very clean. They serve excellent veggie food. The owner and all guests were very friendly and fun. Kitchen was clean and easy to use. One of my favorite hostels on the planet!

We stayed there for five days and it was a great experience. We shared a room and it was excellent. The hostel has 5 rooms and a nice kitchen where you can cook everything except meat. There is a small pool but the water is always cold. The room is Ok, they have air and the bathrooms are OK. In the second floor there is a roof with some chairs and a bar. The price also includes a basic breakfast, which consist in a plate of cereal, some cookies and coffee. There is a Seven Eleven in the corner and lots of restaurants next to the hostel. The beach is like 2 miles from the hostel, you can rent a bike and ride through the path.
