“Can't wait to return”
Reviewed 10 November 2013 via mobile

We sincerely enjoyed our time in Tulum at Las Palmas Maya. We can't wait to go back. Everything from the reservation with Cheryl, to Tom's hospitality was simply perfect. We were impressed right away when our taxi pulled up to the front gate and we were greeted by name. The beach at Tulum was amazing. The restaurants are expensive, so the kitchen at LPM is a huge plus for budget travelers. The all inclusive we went to after Tulum was great, but no comparison to hanging out at OM on the beach or the Hammock Lounge above the kitchen.

I enjoyed my stay at Las Palmas Maya. This isn't a fancy hotel - it's fairly basic (reflected in the excellent price), with a bohemian Tulum vibe and it's obvious the owners and manager invest a lot of personal attention in the detail of ensuring their guests have a great experience. Our room was clean and comfortable, with great mosquito nets, comfortable bed, hot showers, and everything we needed. Tom was extremely friendly and helpful, ready to answer all our questions, suggest restaurants and arrange tours at the last minute, and help us find a shop to buy toiletries when we'd accidentally lost ours. If you are organized and thrifty, there is a full kitchen for you to store food and drink and make your own meals, and a friendly communal ambience in which to eat them; we were insufficiently organized for that and typically spent around $25 US a day for two buying basic breakfast at other hotels as there's just coffee (free) here. There's also a nice upstairs hammock area where we spent a pleasant afternoon with books and wine. And the wifi is free and strong, which I always love.

Much is made of the hotel not being on the beach. This wasn't a problem at all for us - there is easy beach access via Om Hotel across the road, a 2 minute walk from room to sea. What we did envy about the beach cabanas was their cool sea breeze - our room got quite hot at times despite the best efforts of two fans.

This hotel is located at km 8.5 on the beach road, opposite Om Hotel and Casa Violetta. I say this because I couldn't figure out its location in advance. It's a couple of kms from the Sian Ka'an nature reserve, and about 9km from the Tulum ruins. This property is well located, near several beach clubs, hotels, bars and restaurants, and a couple of little convenience stores. The beach is beautiful. Taxis are easy to find, and Tom was very obliging in getting one for us whenever we wanted one. He also hires bikes. In expensive Tulum, Las Palmas Maya is a very good choice with a personal, homey touch.

Wonderful place and Tom really makes the experience a memorable one. Great communal areas for socializing with your fellow holidaymakers.
LPM is located across from a beautiful and very scenic beach. Restaurants are all within walking distance and there appeared to be numerous inexpensive taxis in the area.
We drove and continued South - easy roads.

This is a really lovely property & they've definitely taken the eco-friendly concept to heart-- they've installed solar panels & a high-efficiency diesel generator.
The property is very nicely kept & the rooms are super clean!
The communal kitchen area is awesome if you don't want to spend all your money eating out (the Chedraui grocery store is back just before you turn right to head south down the beach road).
If this hotel were on the beach, it would be perfect! I really think the owners should take this concept & find a sister property to renovate on the beach.
Tomas, the manager is very nice & helpful & serves REAL coffee every morning in the kitchen area. He has all sorts of info about the area, so be sure to ask him before you head out on your adventures.
If I'd been staying for more than one night, I would have definitely enjoyed hanging out in the hammocks in the loft area above the kitchen .
The only thing I didn't like was dealing w/ the mosquito nets to get in & out of the bed--it's sort of annoying at 3am if have to get up to use the bathroom & in your delirium find the clips & crawl out :) Definitely keep a flashlight with you inside the net so that you can get out of the bed without hurting yourself.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We would be happy to open another location on the beach...investors? Are you out there? (lol). Our relationship with our good friends at Om right across the way allows guests to be on one of the top ten beaches in the world in just a matter of seconds. We offer the most affordable prices with beach access...best of both worlds! Please do come see us again soon.

Wow! What can I say...I have stayed at "LPM" 3 times and I will continue to come back! Tomas, the manager is a wealth of knowledge! If you need info regarding where to eat, swim, snorkel, dance, party or whatever...he will send you to the right place! The rooms are immaculate, the beds are the most comfortable out of all the hotels on the beach! And...here's the kicker...THE best showers in all of Tulum! If you frequent Tulum beach you will understand what I mean about the shower! Great community dining/kitchen area...Tomas is the best!

Just stayed at Las Palmas Maya for 5 nights... We were a group of 5 ladies traveling form all over. Tom, the property manager, was super helpful with EVERYTHING from, helping us plan day trips, to finding out where to eat. Cheryl, who took our reservation was very flexible and keen to accommodate us.
The property is located on the jungle side, our rooms were cleaned (free of sand each day) and the high power showers were very nice when we were around to have them. The kitchen is a really great add on. There are two 4-burner stove tops so it was never too crowed.

If I was coming with a large group I would definitely consider renting out the entire place.
