“Great place and great location and good food - but a few nerveraking items”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

so this is a great place, folks who work there are nice and the rooms are spacious and well done.
Lets focus on what we think is a bit outside of normal, the rather greedy behaviour to mickel and dime you on small stuff,
- a funny exchange rate from peso in usd off market
- an extra charge of a 2nd glass of Orangejuice
- an extra charge for this and that.

At the pricepoint of 300odd$ this is quite "unusual"

Our family (2 adults, 1 teenager) stayed in Hotel Encantada in July 2013 for 3 days. For the price we paid, I thought this hotel was pretty mediocre.

The nice:
On the beach, with quick easy access.
Very laid back atmosphere (but that is pretty much par for the course in Tulum), quite romantic.
VERY VERY friendly and helpful staff.
Very nice breakfast – tasty and good spread – but portion were too small though.

The less nice:
Reasonably small rooms, not ideal for family travel. They looked bigger on the pictures, but of all the rooms we had throughout the Yucutan in 2 weeks, these were the smallest. Once our son’s single bed was in place and with a few suitcases that had to stand around, it was actually tight to move around the room.
No build in cupboards and very limited shelve space for clothes (hence the suitcases standing around)
No aircon and the roof fans not positioned over the bed. So every night I was drenched with sweat despite leaving all our sliding doors and windows fully open. And its not like we were there during a heatwave, it was overcast all the time. Summer there is just hot and a lack of aircon or (well positioned) fan in the evening is an issue.
No TV or any audio equipment.
Limited electric plug outlets in the room.
No tea/coffee facilities.
Open shower with no door or curtain – gets a big part of the floor wet every time anyone showers.
(This is also not ideal if you share a room and would like to have privacy when you shower.)
Limited warm water in shower.

Make no mistake, you’ll have a nice stay and for some (especially couples, who might find it romantic) it will be ideal. We had a nice stay and have good memories, but at similar prices we got much bigger (and better equipped) rooms during the rest of our travels in Mexico. I won’t hesitate to return to Tulum as a destination, but I don’t think I’ll choose this hotel again – at least not at the rate they charge.

Having never visited Tulume before, I booked 4 nights at the Encantada Tulum for a short getaway in late June/early July. I was concerned about the weather at that time of year but decided to take a chance. I needn't have worried. During the day it was beautiful and sunny and the clear blue water was warm. It rained most nights but that didn't bother me at all.

The hotel is gorgeous, rustic and simple. I loved the beach front cabana Mar where we stayed. View of the ocean from the bed! The lack of air conditioning wasn't a bother to me and was part of the charm, but just be prepared if you are used to such conveniences. Same with the water situation. As long as you know what you are in for, and that you can't drink from the tap, it's fine. Water in a big jug is provided.

The food in the restaurant is delicious. We drank many margaritas during our stay and had a few lunches and one dinner. All were fabulous and delicious. The continental breakfast, included, was very nice. Service at the restaurant was attentive but it might have been nice if someone made more routine checks of the beach to see if we needed anything.

There are bikes you can borrow (they've seen better days, but work fine). We also walked in each direction down the beach for lunch or dinner as well. There are a couple places close by with good food and nice view of the water. Shame the Encantada's restaurant is placed at the front of the hotel, closer to the road, with no view of the beach.

Overall, it was a lovely time and a beautiful hotel. I would not hestitate to return.

Room Tip: Get beachfront!

I stayed in Tulum for 7 nights at Encantada, the first 2 in Flores and the following 5 in Arena.

The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful, and organised a number of great tours for us. We also enjoyed the company of Carlos and Jose at the restaurant! The included breakfast was delicious with an array of local and seasonal fruits.

The rooms are stunning, the location is beautiful and right on a great stretch of pristine beach.

The highlight of the trip was definitely going down for a walk on the beach after dinner and finding ourselves meters away from a sea turtle laying her eggs.

We were very sad to leave and would definitely return in future.

Had such an Amazing time staying at Encantada.

Came here to relax and chill. Alone for 2 days, and brother joined in for a few days.

Staff- Incredible! They go above and beyond to make you feel at home. They are truly Genuine. You can tell they love what they do. Spent a lot of time chatting with the staff and laughing. Great Great Staff!

Room- Very Clean! attention to detail was great. Only Only thing i would say is, I wish they had AC. But they do have fans that help . Comfy bed.

Beach- Just steps away. They have their own little private area n the beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas. Staff will bring you drinks to the beach. Really nice beach.

Bar an Dining- DELICIOUS FOOD! Trust me, I know food...especially Mexican. I ate here 90% of the time because of how good the food was. Continental Breakfast was yummy and included.

Massages- Had one and loved it.

Overall a great place to stay. Worth the trip for sure!

Encantada is situated on a gorgeous and quiet stretch of beach. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and very well designed, suffusing an immediate sense of tranquility. We especially loved the three sliding-glass doors in front of the bed that provided a view of the sea (We stayed in Mar and then moved upstairs to Cielo). We left the doors open at night and fell asleep to the sounds and fresh breeze from the sea and it was lovely. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious, especially the breakfast that comes complimentary with the room. We spent 3 days here and were very sad to leave.

My husband and I had the privilege of staying at Encantada for a week to celebrate my 40th birthday. I truly couldn't have asked for a better vacation. Every single member of the staff is so welcoming we felt as if we were staying with family. The front desk team helped us arrange and amazing tour, Carlos seriously makes some of the best drinks we've ever had, and Jose's customer service is particularly exceptional. We will most certainly be back.

Some of the details for me that really set this place apart was the traditional mayan cuisine and the accommodation of all my crazy food allergies, beachside service for food and drinks, and one of the best massages I've ever had. The three musketeers at the front desk are at your beck and call to help you arrange anything you need. It truly feels as if each staff member was hand picked to create one of the most memorable experiences we've ever had. If you want to feel as if you're stranded on a desert island in luxury, book your room.
Thanks everyone for a remarkable vacation!
