Zamas was a little piece of paradise for our family in our recent Spring-Break trip in March 2014. We stayed in a two-queen-bed cabana across the 1 1/2 lane road from the restaurant and beach, right next to the dive shop. The view from the cabana porch was gorgeous. Every morning we awoke to the songs of birds and the sound of the waves, the morning light playing on the (pretty but unnecessary) mosquito netting around our bed.
The restaurant was our home base for meals, always delicious with good service. We trusted the safety and quality of the food, and we were glad that we were able to venture out to other places and not feel limited to just eat one place. Nonetheless, we kept coming back. Loved loved loved the Gambol Pil-Pil. OMG. My 12 year old daughter fell in love with shrimp on the trip, and consumed her weight in Watermelon Agua Fresca. We had just enough Wi-Fi at the restaurant to check out emails and post a picture or two of our trip on Facebook.
The private beach was very nice by most standards. Secluded, a little rocky on the edges, but fun for playing in the waves. It only suffers in comparison because a couple of km away there is a world-class beach. We enjoyed both. The beach at Zamas had fewer people, a bit more shade, a more relaxing scene. But the other beach was powdered-sugar perfection, and dazzling sun, that went on for miles and miles. We spent time on both and each had their charms.
We liked the music scene at night at the restaurant -- just a bit of laid-back entertainment, not the whole falderal of Disney-type production at a big resort. Just a nice way to pass the time, with a drink, watching the waves, enjoying the moonlight. When we were ready for bed (we are not night-owls), it was nice to be able to get away from the music by going to our cabana. We could hear it faintly, but it was in no way a disturbance to our dreams...
