“So much better than an all-inclusive!”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Zamas was a little piece of paradise for our family in our recent Spring-Break trip in March 2014. We stayed in a two-queen-bed cabana across the 1 1/2 lane road from the restaurant and beach, right next to the dive shop. The view from the cabana porch was gorgeous. Every morning we awoke to the songs of birds and the sound of the waves, the morning light playing on the (pretty but unnecessary) mosquito netting around our bed.
The restaurant was our home base for meals, always delicious with good service. We trusted the safety and quality of the food, and we were glad that we were able to venture out to other places and not feel limited to just eat one place. Nonetheless, we kept coming back. Loved loved loved the Gambol Pil-Pil. OMG. My 12 year old daughter fell in love with shrimp on the trip, and consumed her weight in Watermelon Agua Fresca. We had just enough Wi-Fi at the restaurant to check out emails and post a picture or two of our trip on Facebook.
The private beach was very nice by most standards. Secluded, a little rocky on the edges, but fun for playing in the waves. It only suffers in comparison because a couple of km away there is a world-class beach. We enjoyed both. The beach at Zamas had fewer people, a bit more shade, a more relaxing scene. But the other beach was powdered-sugar perfection, and dazzling sun, that went on for miles and miles. We spent time on both and each had their charms.
We liked the music scene at night at the restaurant -- just a bit of laid-back entertainment, not the whole falderal of Disney-type production at a big resort. Just a nice way to pass the time, with a drink, watching the waves, enjoying the moonlight. When we were ready for bed (we are not night-owls), it was nice to be able to get away from the music by going to our cabana. We could hear it faintly, but it was in no way a disturbance to our dreams...

Room Tip: The second floor cabanas across the street are perfect for a small family and only a two-minute walk...

Zamas was the perfect fit for us! An amazing balance of sustainability, beauty, and comfort. Our cabana was spacious and beautiful (Jungle Cabana) with a huge terrace complete with lounging chairs and hammocks. The resident dive shop (Mexi Divers) and restaurant were both perfect compliments to the hotel. We spent many hours on the deck of the restaurant chatting with the friendly staff, drinking margaritas and micheladas and just soaking in the amazing view!

I have been to Zamas many times, and recently took a friend and my two sons, 5 and 8. We had a ball! We stayed in a wonderful jungle cabana and loved it. The cabana had plenty of room for all of us, a huge bathroom, and a cool deck area where we could lounge in hammocks and watch the boys climb coconut trees and rocks by the ocean - just beautiful! The staff of the hotel and restaurant couldn't be nicer or more helpful. We kept saying we would eat in other places, but we kept returning to Que Fresco because the food is delicious and the atmosphere can't be beat - tables on the beach, live music, fun games, great food and drinks. Any excursion we were interested in, Zamas staff had all of the information we needed to pull it off. Zamas is so centrally located for so many resources and great activities - beautiful beaches, cenotes everywhere, a variety of ruins, all you need in town, and tons of restaurants in walking distance (if you can tear yourself away from Que Fresco!), We had such a beautiful, fun, relaxing stay. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: We toured many of the rooms during our stay, and I can safely say, we would have been happy in any o...

We needed a break from the long winter and chose April to steal away to mexico with our two boys age 13 and 11. We were interested in a more "natural" environment without roughing it too much and this was the perfect retreat. We selected the top ocean view family Apartment on the jungle side so the music would not keep us awake at night and it was perfect. Lulled to sleep every night by ocean breeze after enjoying fresh food and great days of snorkeling in the Cenotes. We rented a car which was best after trying to cycle to several places, we realized that we needed a better form of transportation. We LOVED the staff and the food at Zamas...My husband and I could enjoy our morning coffee while the boys explored the beaches and climbed the rocks. Highly recommend this location and hotel. We took a fishing trip with some success and visited the ruins. Great getaway.

Room Tip: Oceanside are terrific but music can be loud in the evening if you go to bed early..May not be a goo...

Lovely beach location for fairly basic (no A/C) but clean etc facilities. We had a room over the road (30secs walk to beach) with private balcony and hammocks to chill out on. Beach is very cute and restaurant is a great setting for dinner.

One thing to note: There is NO pool which was a disappointment as there are photos on their website which is slightly misleading. Didn't take away from a lovely experience though.

Room Tip: Staying over the road means you dont get the beach front experience BUT more privacy...

I meant to write this review a while back as my husband, kids (and 4 and 6) and I returned from Zamas a month ago. I meant to spread the love sooner!

I cannot fault this wonderful place. We had the most incredible two weeks here and finally understood the meaning of relaxing. I do not have a bad word to say about Zamas

It has been interesting reading other reviews of Zamas. You need to know this - Zamas is not a polished, five star pristine resort with air con and mod cons. This is a place to kick back, chill out and release your inner hippy. It's boho luxe on the beach at it's best. The physical location of the hotel is just amazing - your own private beach/cove at the end of the miles and miles of beach. The resort is so pretty and charming - we had a family room in the coconut grove with views of the sea. My two children ran around safely and happily and spent every day building sandcastles. The road outside the resort is not that busy and even though our property was beachside, I definitely wouldn't have a problem staying on the other side of the road.

We visited the long stretch of beach a couple of times and of course it is absolutely awesome but we felt much safer at Zamas in the gorgeous little cove with our two kids. It's very easy to loose little ones on the long stretch of beach but here, you can always keep your eye on them and you know they are safe. It meant that my husband and I could actually kick back, read books and drink pina coladas all day long! What more could you ask for?!

The staff are out of this world - from the owners who truly care how their guests are getting along and are sure to get to know everyone to the adorable locals who run the run the resort and restaurant. They work so hard and they are so lovely with children.

The restaurant is delicious - it's a proper destination place to eat for people from other resorts - the food is locally caught and prepared and it's lovely. The service is consistently high and the cocktails are AMAZING! The location of the restaurant is so dreamy as the sun sets - and it's always packed out every night and even lunchtime which shows you how popular and good it is.

Salvador and Max who run the front desk couldn't have done more to take care of us and gave our kids buckets and spades to play with every day.

We will 100% return to Zamas and we can't recommend it enough.

Room Tip: Beachside is clearly best but honestly, there is not a great deal in it.

I stayed there solo in May , a room with partial ocean views with the main road behind

The room was very clean and with the mosquito netting around the bed I slept great . There is some road and people noise behind but I didn't find it too much of a bother I stayed a Thursday night ..

It's an Eco resort so no TV but Wifi works at the restaurant area if you need to stay connected ..

I'd go back again !

Tip when going to the ruins get there early say 830am otherwise the crowds take away from the experience .
