We stayed at Piedra only one night but we were really impressed with this little hotel. The hotel is lovely. The beach is small but very pretty and the hotel staff was really friendly and helpful. We stayed in the HUGE room above the dining room. It was light and airy, great shower and super quiet. The complimentary continental breakfast was perfect--great toast and croissant! The hotel is on the part of the " Hotel Zone" strip that has a few shops, a store and a few tasty and pretty roadside restaurants. This was welcomed after being much further down the beautiful but remote road at another hotel. The only downside was that the room was expensive for not being one of the cuter beachfront rooms. Overall the hotel was charming and well positioned.

My wife and I went down for a wedding at an all inclusive resort close to Cancun (which we didn't care for too much), but decided to add a couple of days down at the Piedra Escondida hotel in Tulum. We loved it. Tulum is so much more laid back and nice compared to the big hotels up on the coast. It was definitely more of a casual vibe.

The hotel was great - we stayed in room #4 which has an absolutely gorgeous view overlooking the ocean. THIS is what I can to Mexico for. No TV. No air conditioning. Nothing fancy. Just a beautiful, clean, simple room with a great view.

We slept with the doors to the balcony open and had a nice breeze all night long. Our stay (April 18-19th) was during a very windy time, but it was a warm wind so it felt good.

The beach was nice, but because of the wind it wasn't the best beach to swim at (good for a dip though). It was a nice private beach, and there were several families staying and the kids seemed to enjoy the beach. It definitely felt safe and welcoming.

There's a single road along the coast and it was easy to get a taxi -- had a couple of great meals (Hartwood at km marker 7.6 was amazing), and we were able to rent a couple of bikes next door and do a little touring into Tulum (the town) and over to the Tulum ruins. Very easy to get around. There's a dedicated bike path into town, so it was safe and easy.

We'll definitely plan to come back to Tulum, and Piedra Escondida was a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Room #4 has the best view - highly worth the $

We stayed at Piedra Escondida beginning of April and it has been a fantastic holiday. As soon as we got there we felt it would be a great place to relax: the location on a small secluded, yet very central, beach was perfect to say the least: every morning the beach has been raked and the sun- beds with fresh beach towels were just waiting for us. The rooms are very spacious, with nice comfy beds, spacious cabinet with a private safe, and toilet and shower with always hot water and a nice decorating touch. Every morning housekeeping was cleaning and washing the floor, always leaving beautiful towel decoration on our beds. The multilingual staff has been great in helping us on everything. gerat breakfast on the deck overlooking the ocean was a treat. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone with no doubts.

Muchas gracias , Piedra Escondida and your wonderful staff for helping to make our stay so comfortable - from the cleanliness of our room(above the kitchen) to the great breakfasts, we have only good things to say. Thanks to the great service staff that was friendly yet respected our privacy when we needed it. The warm breeze, incredible ocean and comfy hammocks fit right in with our plans. Its hard not to miss you.!

A delightful, quiet, civilised place to chill out and relax. Wonderful beach, white sands, very private, pleasant restaurant, unobtrusive helpful staff. Not really ideal for young children or teenagers but ideal for couples who want to relax and get away from the hurly burly of everyday life.

It is small and intimate. All rooms are in separate thatched cottages opening on to the beach.

Guaranteed sunshine and peace and quiet.

Can't recommend too highly.

It is a bit of a drive from the airport to the hotel in Tulum but totally worth the time! The hotel is lovely, the beach is gorgeous and the staff is very nice. The food was some of the best in the area, particularly the Italian items on the menu. I was there with my young daughter (4) and we had a great time but I would totally consider it a perfect place for romantic get away too! I can't wait to go back!!!

This was our third time in Tulum but our first at Peidra Escondida. I'm so glad we found it! The intimate atmosphere, all ocean front rooms, beautiful thatched roofs, rocky outcroppings, great food, and super clean environment made it a fantastic vacation. The upstairs rooms boast the giant thatched roofs which repeat travelers in the Caribbean have grown to love. We were treated to Flamenco dancers who invited our friend to come on stage to join them. What fun! They cleaned the beach everyday, and the entry into the ocean is very shallow, great for kids. Outside, the street scene was lively. There were lots of little shops, other restaurants and bars to visit when you wanted to take a walk or hire a taxi to see the sites. Tulum ruins is a must see and only 10 minutes away. If you don't like all inclusive hotels and want to feel like you've relaxed on your vacation, then Piedra Escondida is a fantastic spot for you.
