We stayed at Piedra Escondida with a small group in early May. The front desk staff was very kind at check in. We felt well taken care of for our entire stay. The small beach is breathtakingly beautiful and feels very secluded. We stayed in room #1 which had a beautiful view. All rooms have hammocks and Adirondack chairs so that you can relax and enjoy the scenery. The beach also had comfortable padded chairs, hammocks and plenty of available shade. Our room at Piedra Escondida included WIFI, parking and daily breakfast which was excellent. The housekeeping staff was top notch. Our room was cleaned to perfection each day and the fresh flowers and cleverly folded towels made me smile.

The location is fantastic. It is easy to walk to nearby shops, restaurants and bars. Taxi’s and bicycle rentals are also easily available on the road behind the hotel. There is a large supermarket within a very short drive and the town of Tulum, the ruins and many fabulous cenotes are also an easy drive from Piedra Escondida.

While I loved our stay at Piedra Escondida the hotel is off the grid. Room furnishings and linens were all comfortable but basic. There was no air conditioning and in May it was hot. Our room included 1 standing fan, the breeze from which did not penetrate the mosquito netting so we wore mosquito spray to sleep each night and slept with all windows wide open. There are a lot of mosquitos in this part of Mexico and with a thatched roof and gaps around the doors and windows there are plenty of ways for them to get into your room at night. The hotel also had salt water showers. Showering in salt water did not leave me feeling fully clean; on the other hand my skin and hair have never been softer and I had no need for moisturizer. We were provided with a one liter bottle of fresh water each day and the ability to refill it ourselves as needed.

I would definitely return to Piedra Escondida but would try to go during the cooler winter months and maybe invest in a camp shower and a few 5 gallon bottles of fresh water for the final rinse; in the grand scheme of things that would have been a worthwhile use of $10.

Room Tip: Room 1 was wonderful but if I were to go again I would try to get room 4. It has 2 decks with wonde...

After a long trip around Mexico, we stopped in Tulum before returning home to Playa and it was late. We tried to find a good deal at that time, seeing as it was barely a night's stay...and of all the places we stopped, THIS was the place we got a great deal. The receptionist, (Chris? I think) was terrific with us, giving us an amazing rate and one of the most beautiful rooms, beachfront with a gorgeous view. What's best is the room is OUTSTANDING...the bed was super comfortable and the decor top notch. Wish we could've stayed longer. The cushioned beach chairs great the next day to soak in the sun...the only down side that keeps this review from getting 5 stars/excellent, was the restaurant manager...was not very friendly and personable. He was a bit abrupt and lacked in service skills and personality. :( We did mention this to the hotel manager upon checkout, so perhaps the situation's been corrected. However, nonetheless, the food was excellent. And even though it's on the main road where there's quite a bit of action, I didn't feel it was too noisy at all...and it's great to have little shops all around near you...in case you get bored of just the beach, you can take a walk out on the street. Other hotels there really aren't a walk a way to anything else. So I kind of liked this feature. :) All-in-all a great day/night stay and would highly recommend it. :)

The Piedra Escondida is a fantastic place. Literally on the beach and only a 5 min drive from the Tulum ruins. The rooms have nice balconies with comfortable chairs and a hammock. The beach is just beautiful, and so peaceful and quiet. The restaurant, with great view over the water, serves excellent food. The people were really friendly and also helped us pick the right tour to go snorkeling and diving the cenotes. I'd definitely go back.

We recently spent 3 nights at Piedra Escondida based on trip advisor reviews. Overall, it was a good place and I would recommend it.
Positives- we stayed in room #1 which has the best view of the beach. It was picturesque. The bed was comfortable and the room was cleaned (they mopped and swept everyday). Also loved the fresh flowers everyday in our room and cute towel animals. The beach is a little rocky, but beautiful. More seaweed than the beach in Cancun, but they swept it up each morning. The chairs were so comfy with plenty of shade. Graciella greeted us at the front desk with a huge smile and was so helpful in offering restaurant recommendations and things to do. We rented a car, so we were able to go into town, the ruins and cenotes of our own time instead of hiring a guide.
Negatives- the road noise was much louder than expected! Bring earplugs. Although the beach is secluded, the hotel is actually on the main busy street-- which is nice for walking to restaurants/bars, but can be loud at night. I think if we were in the other side the noise would be better (for example room 4 has a great view and less noise). The food was good, but more expensive than what you could find at close by restaurants. Although the owner is Italian, the pasta was only ok while the Mexican food was great. The waiter was also not overly welcoming, but he did seem to warm up over the few days. We were disappointed by the price of drinks (2 margaritas for $14), so we ended up going to Mateo's restaurant next door which had great tacos, drinks and ceviche for a more reasonable price.

we went there a few weeks ago, the place is in a nice area close to restaurants and the archeological site. After reading other reviews,I was maybe expecting more.. It was not fully booked, but they give us the room above the restaurant, the only one without balcony! The beach is private and very nice, too bad the sea in front of the beach was dirty! I mean, the only 100 mt of dirty sea,it was incredibly dirty... The breakfast is ok and the restaurant too. It was missing a little bit of " personal touch", the staff is nice but they do not make an effort . The room was clean but need un update

We would definitely go back to Tulum and to this hotel. The rooms are beautiful, people are friendly and the food is delicious. The beach is so pretty we took hundreds of pictures and it was perfect even at night, when we would relax swinging on the amaca listening to the sound of the waves...
The location is very convenient too. We LOVED Piedra Escondida!

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. A great way to relax at the end of a vacation. Good and friendly service. Jummy food.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a hammock on the porch!
