If you're looking for a true Mayan adventure with someone special, and are open to leaving a concrete jungle for the real thing, then Azulik is the best choice by FAR!!

NOTE: If you're looking for a fun adventure with friends or traveling with family and looking for "all-inclusive" then look further down for something like La Zebra or something neighboring. Azulik is made especially for couples looking to escape to paradise together.

Here are a few things that make Azulik Amazing and a few tips to heighten the experience
Azulik
- The 3 receptionists are AMAZING, so pleasant, enjoyable, friendly, and accommodating, not to mention locals
- The hotel is amazing in both rain or shine - a true jungle/ocean front experience
- The rooms are cabins within the jungle, so yes, there are some insects and iguanas roaming around, but both you and your things are safe both day and night
- no electricity makes it even more amazing
- prime location to the small town with access to beach front drinks at the other hotels/bars and shopping
- Spa amenities are a bit on the $$$ side, but worth the experience if you're up for it
- Clothing optional beach - perfect place to try something new with your partner and feel comfortable (gay friendly is important here, and everyone was!)
- They have free coffee and cookies in the am as well as fresh filtered water available 24/7
- They are renovating to expand and build a restaurant above the tree line for 360 views

Some helpful tips
- bring some mobile chargers (solar chargers available on amazon) if you want to use your phone at the many places that have free wifi
- bring a flash light (go for the cooler looking ones on amazon) worth it for walking at night or hailing a cab
- from 3-8p it's happy hour in Tulum. Bars vary with their 2 hour time slot, but when one ends, just walk next door
- Go to Mateos for the sunset and hammocks and vibes both in the morning and night
- Go Across the street from Mateos to the bar that's through the ally way - FAVORITE SPOT, the bar has swings
- Try the WHOLE FISH everywhere you go
- Book a Cenote Tour with AdventureTours.com Ask for Jeff, Kate or Ben. $75pp (via paypal) for 3 Cenotes, BUY an EKAT water proof case (http://ekusa.com/icat-2/i5-dri-cat-neck-it) so you can grab some underwater video
- Take a cab down to La Zebra Area or walk along the beach and stop into the cool beach front hotels and grab a cabana and a drink - Posada Margarita is fun, every hotel has a different look
- Rent a bike from the first shop on the left, $100 pesos per day, book in the afternoon and keep it for the evening as long as you return it before 8a
- Drink from a coconut, order whatever drinks come inside them as well
- Bike to the Ruins (15 min away), stop along the way back at the beach front bars for happy hours
- Check out Tulum town (20 min bike ride) for gifts, some bars, but nothing else is really there...stick to the beaches
- Budget $2000 Pesos per day and you're golden

ALSO - not to be a hater, but anyone who wrote a bad review for Azulik, was just not cut out for having a cool nature friendly adventure

If it makes it any better, this is my first ever review I've written and I wish I could go back right now. But my partner and I will 100% will be returning...look for his review on here!

We came here for our honey moon and felt like in paradise! This place is amazing! The room was perfect and so beaitiful, located in a jungle right infront of the sea with beautiful relaxing view. The bath was the most relaxing we ever had!

The staff was so helpful and nice, and we felt they thought about every detail to make our stay perfect.

This is by far the most amazing place to sleep in the beautiful tulum.

We loved our week at Azulik, a beautiful romantic eco resort with gorgeous cabanas, lovely grounds, attentive service, privacy, a fine beach and close to many great restaurants along the shores of Tulum. The resort has its own private beach and a new cabana for reading out of the sun. This was our best vacation ever and we are well traveled throughout Mexico and the world.

We loved our stay here. The cabins are spacious, and the multitude of bathtubs (including one on the porch, out over the ocean) was perfect. The cabins do have plugs for phones, cameras, etc which is convenient. I wish we were brave enough to push back the mosquito netting. There weren't many mosquitos and I think it would have been a little cooler. The beach was gorgeous and about 1 minute walk or less from our cabin. Staff was pleasant and helpful, and with many bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Would happily stay here again!!!

Where to even begin? My boyfriend and I spent one week in early April 2014 at Azulik. The goal for our trip was to escape the hustle and bustle of our city-life in San Francisco, find a beautiful beach, soak up the sun, go on a few adventures, and have an all around relaxing time. Azulik was the PERFECT home base for our adventure! It is relatively small, which makes you feel like you are one of a lucky few to spend time on the beautiful cliff. The beach next to the rooms was never crowded, the sand was gorgeous, and the water and waves were great. On windier days there was even enough surf to do some bodysurfing, but it was also calm enough to float around as well. The room itself was incredible! We stayed in room 10 which had a queen (or king, not sure) sized bed with canopy, a hanging bed inside, a table and two chairs, a beautiful mosaic bathtub, sink, bathroom, and closet with a sturdy safe and one electrical plug to charge a phone or camera. Outside on our deck we had another bathtub, a swing, two chairs, and the most incredible view! I would like to point out that the room is more rustic luxury than the luxury you may find at, say, a four seasons resort. No, the sheets aren't Egyptian cotton, but considering the setting I didn't mind. This is an eco-resort, so aside from there being no electric lighting in the room (they provide a flashlight and candles so it was no hassle at all), they also do not have fully fresh water in the rooms, meaning the water is brackish (partially salt water), but much less salty than the sea. From the state of my skin and hair upon check-out, I'd say my body really enjoyed the week of swimming in the sea and bathing in the tubs in our room so I had no problem with it. Location-wise, I think Azulik is also very well situated as the second resort in a LOOOONGGGG line along the "zona hotelera" that spans all the way to the biopreserve. We drove down the road all the way to the end of the line and it took a good 15 minutes between the topes and traffic. We also took a cab once, part way down to La Zebra, which cost us 80 pesos. I can imagine that if you stayed at the far end of the road you'd either rack up a hefty taxi bill or spend at least 30 minutes a day navigating up and down the road in your car. So, Azulik's location nearer to town was seen by us as a huge plus. Also good to know, they do have occasional wifi in the lobby, as well as electric lighting. They also provide you with two water bottles in your room upon arrival, and a place to refill your water bottles (no charge) with purified water. It is also important to note the AMAZING staff we encountered. There were many staff around to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible, however we had the most contact with the two front desk people who we got to know over our week there. They were always available to suggest good restaurants, help with driving directions, book tours in the preserve, and even order us takeout! The hotel does not have a restaurant but the staff are more than willing to show you an array of delivery menus, call in the order, and deliver it to your room. All at non-room service prices (a huge plus!). Overall, our trip was the ideal escape. I appreciated the rustic setting, the simple yet beautiful room decor, and I especially enjoyed the sound of the Caribbean Sea lapping at our back patio as I feel asleep each night, as well as bathing in our outdoor tub on the cliff. We felt like the luckiest and happiest tourists in the whole town :) And with the addition of the wonderful staff, we also felt like we were home. Some day, sooner or later, we WILL be back!

My experience with Azulik was FANTASTIC! Everything from the friendly, welcoming staff to the absolutely incredible cabana was more than I had hoped for. I was captivated by the simplistic beauty of the resort. Our cabana sat atop a small rocky cliff with a prime view of the ocean. Talk about beauty! I have traveled around quite a bit, but never have I seen so many absolutely stunning sunrises and sunsets. I'm not going to lie. At first, I was a little skeptical about the lack of electricity and wifi, but, after a week, I realized that unplugging from the rest of the world is refreshing. If you do need wifi or electricity for anything, however, it is available in the main office. Part of the beauty of Azulik lies in the underdevelopment of Tulum. No skyscraping resorts crowding the beach. No obnoxious billboards. There are plenty of restaurants and activities to choose from, though. One of Azulik's services that I highly recommend if you need some time for yourself is their spa. WOW! Best massage I've ever had at the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Ultimate RELAXATION. I have recommended Azulik to everyone! I would definitely go back in a heartbeat.
