“Very unfriendly staff”
Reviewed 4 January 2014 via mobile

We arrived here at four by random without any reservation. They showed us the "last available room" with an over prize of 1350 pesos. After going down to the beach to look we decided to take the room anyway as we were so tired and hungry. We went to the reception again and now the room was booked, 3min later! But, they could fix us an other room which now were "the last room"... a worse room for the same prize. We had no place to live so we took it.
There were no towels in the room, and when asking for them the answer was "tomorrow". When an Italian girl came and asked for the same thing and one more they were, "ok we will look for some". 5min later we got two small towels each, "as the normal ones was dirty". I talked to the Italian girl and the had done the exactly same thing with the rooms as for us. Showed them one and said that now was booked but a new last room was awalible.
The Italian girl even had to clean the one room as it wasn't clean. (But they were nice and have here some cleaning stuff)...
AC only works at night, hard beads, sheets were not clean.
They have a wonderful location but the staff is terrible! And over prizes for the rooms.
All the guest we talked to in the "wi fi area" were very "disappointed" with the rude staff and different other things.
I read some of the reviews that was posted here by "other people" and I wonder if the source to these great recommendations is not from the hotel it self?! But that is up to each to judge...
As I said, wonderful place/beach but go to an other hotel! Or pay much less, expect no service and it could be worth it.

Great staff, great beach, we had a blast.. We stayed in a couple of rooms with a/c, tv with cable, showers with hot and cold water. The hotel has beach front, and a bar on the beach. The prices on meals are budget friendly.

Apart from the nice beach this hotel has nothing to offer. The staff is very unfriendly. Hotel rooms have nothing to offer (not even a power socket for charging). WIFI is only available at a kind of meeting point full with mosquitos and without good chairs.
Shower is like a high pressure cleaner. Electricity is shut down often. AC is only working in the nighttime and stops often due to the power shutdowns so you will swim out of your bed. This electricity problems is only at this hotel.
Beds/pillow are very dirty (sweat and blood marks). We got another room after we complained. The next couple probably didn't check below the top sheets.
The prices are determined up on arrival. After some negotiating the price dropped from 1000 to 700 pesos/night (2 nights). To our opinion this was even too much.
They also have "cabanas" (cheaper). When I saw them from a safe distance I was happy about my room.
Conclusion: don't go there if you can avoid it.

Room Tip: Don't go to Zazilkin

Since 1998 we come back to this place every year. We love it!!!

The people are very nice and helpful - at the reception, the bars, restaurant, security and all the other working people there. We call them our friends!

The whole place is like a very small village directly on the best beach in Mexico with a view to the Mayan ruins Tulum. Every cabana is different, all are very nice, all have fans and mosquito nets. The shared toilets and bathroom are clean, the food is delicate. Happy hour (more than 1 hour...) for cocktails is in the afternoon at the beach bar and in the evening at the bar near the restaurant. Electricity from 6 pm til 6 am.

After our last stay in April we are looking forward to travel there again (... end of this year...).

Oh no. For 500 (!!!) pesos per night you get - a tiny room with no shared bathroom, electricity only from 7 pm when its alredy dark, no food / breakfast, wifi far away from the room, awaful showers with every type of animal you can think of and the icing on the cake is the mean(really) staff- they were rude, didnt know a word in English, and when we moved to Casa Condesa which was much better they didnt even tell us thank you for staying. How come lonely planet can still recommend this awaful place??

This hotel has 2 forms of accomodation: cabanas on rhe beach or traditional rooms...still on the beach! I couldn't have asked for a better location as the beach is stunning. There is also a restaurant with tables on the sand :-) and a bar on the beach. I just wish these two had more flexible/ longer opening times. rooms ate basic but clean, beds are comfy and if you want to stay in touch with nature there isn't a better place than Zazilkin!

We stayed here for 3 nights because we were really looking forward to enjoy the beach.
Our cabin was basic and small. It had a bed, a mosquito net and a small table to put your belongings on. We got a fan and we had a very good nice sleep.

Some of the inconveniences we found were, their reservation system, which was through a "tour agent" with a "@yahoo.com" emai account, and because of the fact we had to make a deposit to a bank account in Mexico (sketchy operation).

However everything else went smooth and when we arrived they indeed had our reservation confirmed and paid. We had a very good time here.

If you decide to come, do not expect luxury, this place is to be more in contact with nature. Otherwise go to a resort.

Also, there is no electricity during daytime. Come prepared.

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin away from the "bar" if you want to sleep well.
