Let me just start off by saying Tulum is the most amazing place ever. We stayed in Playa Del Carmen a week and Tulum a week and wished we had spent our whole time in Tulum for the relaxation. We went in January which is supposed to be the high season but seemed very quiet which was perfect. We stayed in a junior suite top level and it was just breathtaking! Perfect breeze all the time, beautiful decor and beautiful view. It was a little more then we are used to spending but we are already planning on booking again this year. Everything about Ahua is relaxing. The main common area is just so cozy especially at night with amazing couches to kick back on with great food and drinks. My only small issue would be is it seems that there are friends or locals that come hang out there a lot and sometimes there wasnt room on the couches to sit and as a paying guest it would have been nice. And every now and then we would not get waited on even with a lot of employees and we would have to ask for service but that doesnt change how much we love it there. I'm assuming with trip advisor they see these reviews and can work on it. Ahua in my opinion is the most beautiful place on the whole beach. Lots of hammocks and beds on the beach and you can feel comfortorable to go topless if you would like. The vibe is very relaxed which is what im assuming is what most people are looking for in a vacation. They also offer Yoga upstairs in the common area which is really nice. And if your looking for a great smoothie or juice this is the place. We actually found it hard to leave Ahua to go do other things on our trip..we would have been fine just hanging out there the whole time. But we did rent some bikes which were really nice to. Make sure to bike down to Mateo's for their amazing fish tacos to every now and then! The location of Ahua is perfect and central to everything you need. All I can say is Ahua is very relaxing and it's feels like home. We would live there if we could. :)

Room Tip: I think any room at Ahua is a good room. Even their 60.00 rooms I would stay in.

I stayed here in November in the $90 upstairs hut. The toilet and shower outside. This accommodation was fine, but I felt very overpriced. The staff was friendly, but a bit snooty. The owners never said hello to us and seemed to have a kind of click of people they would hang around with. This place caters to a bit of the "yuppy" type. They have yoga and "wifi." It's not really what I'm looking for when I go to Mexico. I felt like I was back in L.A. It's not genuine to me, and I felt not very welcoming. That is just my opinion. The beach is absolutely beautiful, and the food in the restaurant very, very good (a bit expensive though). This place is clean, pretty, and well maintained but I probably will not stay here again. I would prefer to somewhere else.

Room Tip: If you're staying in a hut I would stay upstairs. The bottom hut is next to the toilet & sh...

While my fiancé and I enjoy luxury hotels, we are both very easy going and have had the best of times in boutique hotels with reasonable rates. After having just been engaged, we took a trip to Mexico. At Ahau, we stayed in one of the best rooms ($430/night with ocean view) which was beautiful and had an amazing view but we really felt disappointed about the service and experience that we had. I think that we should have seen the writing on the wall in this hotel's offering a $65 room and a $430 room. Everyone gets the same service....the same $65/night service. There is no turndown service and any time we had room service to our room, the dirty dishes sat outside our door for 24 hrs plus.

Each time we visited the reception, the receptionists seemed to not recognize us and ask us questions like, "didn't I already tell you that?" - which we found to be a rude experience.

One of our BIGGEST gripes was with the beach. Walking down the beach in Tulum you see all of these great hotels with chairs/cabanas for guests and they say PRIVADO (private). At Ahau the beach chairs are not private and you share them with whatever hippy strolls down the beach and decides to take a snooze. We had to have the receptionist clear space for us at the beach when we decided to get off our towel on the sand and say something. This felt like the story of this hotel.

After finding mouse poop on the bathroom sink for the second time, we wanted to leave. Since we had prepaid for the room, we were unable to switch hotels. If you are looking for a romantic luxury experience, AVOID AHAU and do yourself a favor and stay at Encantada, Ana y Jose, or Suenos for great service at a similar price. If you are looking for a $65 room, you should stay at Ahau.

Hello!

We want to thank you for all the suggestions posted about your recent visit to Ahau and also we would like to apologize because all the inconveniences found during your stay. We really take every positive an negative comment as an opportunity to perform better and in this case now we have the shades on the beach only reserved for guests and we are working hard to improve the serfvice in the front desk motivating them to know our guests better and to be one step ahead on their needs. About the rates there is a big difference between a room in front of the beach and a room behind called Bali Hut, not only in size but also in amenities, however, we are offering a turn down service now and improving the amenities. About the rat poop, it is important to know that this poop is from a Gecko and not from a mouse, they are similar in shape but we can assure that mouses are not part of our fauna. nce again we appologize for this inconveniences and hopefully we can have the chance to attend you any other time that you decide to come back to Tulum and then, we will be able to change and improve the image and the experience you previously had with us.

Tulum is definitely a MUST DO if you go to Cancun/Playa Del Carmen region, and Ahau Hotel will make this experience Better. We went in the BPM Festival period, it was exceptionally raining during that period and with a friend, we decided to leave Playa Del Carmen to stay in Tulum. Our friends recommended only two Hotels in Tulum where we "Have to be"; Ahau and BeTulum. As soon as we arrived to Ahau, we forgot about the rain. The Hotel was always lively, without being noisy. It is a true Boutique Hotel where you don't feel bored or alone. We had an amazing time there and the atmosphere was fantastic. It was fully booked but we had a chance to find the last remaining suite thanks to the manager of the Hotel as we met her in a Villa Private Party the night before. The crowd of the Hotel is very nice and trendy.

Room Tip: Beach Front Suites are excellent

We stayed at the Ahau Tulum Resort in October for our son's wedding and reception which we had right on the beach. It was beautiful. The entire wedding party and family stayed at the resort. It has a variety of price ranges so everyone could afford what they wanted. Every morning getting up and just walking a few steps to the open air restaurant and enjoying the incredible food and view was awesome. The owners and staff were wonderful from the wait staff to the maids. They made this wedding amazing, and of course, the wedding planner Maju, too. She was incredible. They were always there and making sure everything was perfect for this fabulous day. We can't wait to go back. You guys ROCK!!!! Thanks so much for everything. We're still talking about it and it was 5 months ago.
