If you are looking for a laid back vacation on a beautiful beach that is off the beaten path, this is the place for you! Our friend hosted his wedding at Ahau, and it was perfect, Ahau did an incredible job on every detail. We splurged on the master suite right on the beach, and that is definitely the way to go. (We were upstairs which gave us more privacy than the first floor.) There was nothing better than falling asleep to the ocean breeze and seeing the unobstructed ocean just feet away from our room. The sand is white and clean (no rocks or shells), never hot, and so soft to walk on. Ahau does a great job of cleaning the little algea that washes on shore overnight. Keep in mind that there is no pool or gym, no tvs in the rooms...this place is rustic and laid back but there is yoga every morning and running on the beach is super easy. It is a perfect place to disconnect and relax. The food was amazing. The staff and management were very friendly and eager to meet our needs. We stayed for five days and knew almost everyone at Ahau by name. It is hard to come back to the grind of everyday life after relaxing in this beautiful resort that seems worlds away.

Room Tip: There is a wide range of price points and types of rooms. I think the master suite is worth the mon...

We stayed in the front cabanas, on the beach, for a week.
The room was very nice, with a lot of wonderful details in particular in the wood structures. Very "natural" and "green", with yoga etc... Nature is really right there, including in salamander poop you can find on the floor in the morning (that's totally fine with me) and we often woke up to birds singing.
The sea an the beach are amazing, the beach furniture is nice (each room has some exclusively reserved for its guests), service is well done and friendly, food and drinks excellent (but far from cheap, just like most restaurants around: very nice and very overpriced...).
The crowds are different from resorts hotels, and you have quite a bit of locals coming for WE, or just a drink and a swim.
A great kitesurf-padleboard school is associated with the hotel.
We simply loved this place...

Room Tip: There is, indeed, not fitness center! I put 5 stars for the yoga classes twice in the morning and th...

Hello,

We want to thank you for the good comments posted about Ahau Tulum. We are glad that you enjoyed the nature and vibe of Ahau as well as the yoga, kite surf and the service. We appologize because the salamander poop (we call them geckos) as they are part of this nature but completely unharmful. We are also glad that you enjoyed your private bed on the beach. We really hope in a near future you will give us the chance to attend you again here in Ahau.

Warm regards.

I brought a group of 15 women here for a Women's Retreat this January 2014. Our women said it was their favorite experience ever! The massages, the mayan treatments, the ayurvetic expertise of Ines, and the range of health related activities was perfect for our group. The rooms were so close to the ocean that you had to get into the vibe of being on beach/mexican time.
The owner, the Kitchen staff, and the Yoga/Spa staff were all so easy to talk to and feel at home with. We had a variety of personalities in our group, and they treated the one's with more needs with compassion and care. The location is the best that it gets!!!!!

My girlfriend and I met in Tulum - for 2.5 days. It was a last minute, escapist trip, and we didn't have much time to research where to stay, eat, go, etc. (nor did we have much time to do very much once there). After deciding on Tulum, we received some recommendations from someone who travels and visits the area regularly. The Ahau Tulum came highly recommended. So it was decided. Everything upon arrival was wonderful. Absolutely everyone who worked there was very friendly and helpful, and the resort itself was pristinely non-pretentious - making for a fluid, comfortable transition from beach/ocean to comfort/tranquility. All the palapas seemed to have ridiculous views (with balconies/decks), and the room interiors (especially the beds and showers) were simply perfect, as they enhanced, rather than detracted from, the beautiful setting. In other words, you could be in your room or down a few feet sprawled in the sand and still experience the organic Mexican beach vibes. I love that it offered Yoga daily, and the food was amazing. We had breakfast (eggs, fruit, coffee, juices, bliss balls!) and lunch (aka cervezas and guacamole/salsa) every day there. The bike rentals were also perfect for getting to the nearby Ruins sans cabs. My only suggestion would be for coffee/juice availability in the main dining/lounge/reception palapa for us early risers. But perhaps given more time at the Ahau Tulum, caffeine and other such habitual necessities would float away....

We had been before for drinks and food before, but this was our first stay there and I have to say it will definitely not be our last. The property is beautiful and all the little details that they paid attention to to make it feel so comfortable and inviting for all their guests is very obvious. The entire staff is fantastic from the reception ladies (thanks Jill and Ari!) to the restaurant staff, the managers... everyone made you feel at home and made sure you had everything you needed/wanted all the time. (and the bed was sooooo comfortable).
The design is just spectacular as you can see from all the photos people post. And the beach in Tulum is just about the best on earth (and we've been to a million!).
Ahau will definitely be our home away from home whenever we can get away for a few nights (since we are lucky enough to actually live here in the area!). Don't think twice, if you can get a reservation, go to Ahau!
