“Nice little place”
Reviewed 20 January 2009

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at Uolis Nah. Our 2nd floor room was very spacious and having the kitchen along with drinking water was nice, especially with the supermarket a short 100m walk away which has all the necessities (think 35 cent avacados and 2 dollar steaks!) and an ATM. We saved a lot of money this way even though we still splurged and ate out once a day. The shower had plenty of hot water though water pressure was weak. Bed was comfortable and maid service was impeccable! The grounds are nicely kept up and there is a small common/hammock area where you can hang out with the friendly resident cats if you want to get out of your room. No air conditioning but there were 2 electric switch fans that had been installed in the room. Taxis were easily accessible and plentiful at the taxi stand at the supermarket - it was usually 80 pesos to the south end of the Tulum beach, 50 pesos to the North end of the beach or the Tulum Ruins, and 20 pesos into town which you could easily walk to if you wanted. I think we would definitely rent a car next time though. I guess the only complaint I have is that the hotel is right off a main road so you can hear cars and trucks whizzing by all the time - so a bit of noise pollution even though you're in a 'jungle oasis'! But not a huge problem if you live in a city and you're used to it. Other than that we had no issues with noise from other guests or anything. I would definitely recommend this place for the budget travelers out there who don't mind packing up and heading out for a beach day. If this place was on the beach they could easily charge twice their rate!

  • Liked — kitchen, close to amenities, well kept rooms and grounds
  • Disliked — road noise

Very nice place especialy when you are traveling around in Mexico. A car is useful but not extremely nessecary. You have a full equiped kitchen and a store just around the corner. Staf is very nice and open and arrange evenings with all the guests. Good place for young people who want to meet people, backpackers and couples. Also the link with the kiteschool is perfect. Very, very good kite-instructor!

Thanks Marco and Heather for a perfect time!!!!!

We were very disappointed. Many of the reviews here are favorable, but that was not our experience at all. The hotel does have its own unique flavor, but if you're looking for comfort, relaxation and convenience - this is not the place.

Fodor's description is not accurate. You are not away from the noise because you can hear everything (people talking, animals nearby, etc) from your room.

There is minimal privacy.

This is not the place for families or couples. My wife and I felt like we were in a hippie commune. There are no windows, only wooden shutters, and so the noise carries throughout the place. People talking outside are heard late into the night. The manager was rude to us. There is no AC.

We stayed one night and then left, and lost over $300 in the process.

And it's not great if you don't have a car. You CAN walk to town, but it's down a bad road and you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere - nothing about it was convenient or comfortable. The beds are not comfortable either, which is challenging after long fun days of exploring beaches and ruins. This place felt more like camping. There was a gecko in our room at one point, which didn't go over well with my wife. It was miserable trying to fall asleep because it was so hot, and the fan and open windows barely helped.

Huge disappointment.

However, we moved to a hotel IN town and had a blast. It was NOT noisy in town either. We paid $20 less a night for a great location and AC! :) It's fun simply being able to walk out and BE in the town.

I am the manager at Uolis Nah and would like to begin by stating that Uolis Nah caters to active singles, couples and families. As in any hotel we experience some guests who stay up later than others but the general clientele are divers, kiteboarders and others who retire early in order to get the most out of the days.
There are 6 studios equipped with a full kitchen, dining area, and sleeping area. Each room has a patio or balcony that opens up to the garden area. These areas are not private as they are open to the property so as the rooms are private the outdoor areas are open. The majority of the guests will socialize and relax in these areas without a problem.
Uolis Nah is not a hostel and we tend to have mellow couples and families stay at Uolis Nah, not traveling backpackers.
It is very clearly stated that we do not have air conditioning in the rooms but they are equipped with ceiling/and or standing fans.
We take deposits to ensure that our reservations are secured. If we are not able to rebook a room because of a cancellation during the time of the reservation it is clearly stated that we do not refund the money. As many of our bookings come from the internet we remain strict on our refund policy.
While we try to please everyone there is always the chance that someone does not enjoy their experience. The managers are on the property at all times to ensure that our clients are cared for and their comments and questions are addressed.
Thank You,
Heather Froeming

This is a convenient, pleasant, relaxing, and picturesque small tropical hotel. My 15 YO son and I traveled the Yucatan peninsula from side to side, and found a wonderful oasis to rest at Uolis Nah. The room was spacious, simple, clean, and had a small balcony with a relaxing hamac. My room reservation through their website was handled timely and efficiently. Great value for the money.

Was a little worried about no A/C but it was very cool at night and the ceiling fan helped too. Very nice rooms and OK kitchen. Great location, drove to Chichen Itza in about 2 hours and the Tulum ruins in 5 minutes. Close to town and the grocery. Used the beach at La Zebra, just beautiful Very good value!

This is a great option for people on a budget but who want to be close to the action...great location within walking distance to main street of Tulum. Also, a stone's throw from the local grocery store to take advantage of the in room kitchenette (save more $$$ instead of all meals out). Very quaint and confortable. On same street that you can take out to Coba (inland) or a straight shot to the gorgeous beaches of Tulum. Staff and other travelers were very friendly. When we were there, some of the guest actually had a rehearsal dinner in the quaint courtyard area. Would recommend this to friends and would stay again.

Uolis Nah is conveniently located walking distance from Tulum and the jungle setting provides a cool setting to relax in. After a hot day in the jungle it's a cool setting to return to. Apartments are spacious, clean and comfortable. The common courtyard is nice for mingling, but we always had our private patio to retreat to and seek solitude. It was perfect for us, and reasonable!
