We booked a room about two weeks before arriving. The reservation was changed a first time from a room with private bathroom to one with shared bathroom. BUT when we arrived (after sleeping in a night bus), we were told there was NO room left for us...We were offered to stay in a dormitory but after having a look at the place, we decided to go to an other place cleaner and nicer : the atmosphere was seedy (the floor was scattered with bottles of beer) .
The employers finally recognized the fault wasn't ours but, at the same time, didn't want to give us the deposit back. One of them suggested us to wait a mail from the owner (Alexis) who was supposted to fix things with us...Unfortunately, she never wrote us and we came back to the hostel. She recognized (again!) her fault but refused to give us the deposit back...She finally insulted me ("Go away and take your sh*** with you") when I promised her to let a comment here...
Never go there !!! It is the worse welcome I've ever seen...

We were booked in to stay here for 4 nights ($46 per night). When we arrived we were told that there was a double booking so we were given a different room for one night then have to change the next day which was fine with us. We rented some bikes from the hostel which were more expensive then other places and they were pretty bad. Although we used them only for 5 hours we were asked to pay for the whole day by the manager. Before we went out for dinner, we saw a massive cockroach on the ceiling. My wife went to inform the manager who said she will send someone. After 15 minutes of wait we asked for baygon and sprayed the whole room. We discovered many other bugs and spiders. Also to our surprise the bed sheets were not clean. We wanted to report this but there is no one available there after 10pm. So we had a terrible sleep that night and decided to move out the next day. When we wanted our money back, the receptionist tried to contact the manager, Alexis, who was not available till 4pm. It totally ruined our day. The attitude of the manager was the worst, she simply did not care but agreed to give us the money back for 3 nights. We found a $20 cheaper place with good atmosphere overall. Wouldn't advice anyone to stay here.

I stayed in this hostel with my sister, we rented bikes both days and rode to the beach. We stayed in the 'Africa' room, it was fine, we had mosquito nets on both beds. It is close to the Main Street, and the awesome mojito bar which we spent a lot of time at.
When we checked out and said we were going to get a collectivo to playa del carmen, our receptionist ( sorry I forget your name dude), said he was driving to cancun and would give us a lift. I even offered to pay for fuel but he refused.
This alone justifies the perfect review I am giving this hostel.

We checked into here after a full day checking out the hostels in Tulum, this one was cut above the rest. The owner was helpful and friendly as well as english speaking which makes things easy. He offers cheaper daily bike rentals and snorkel gear than other operators in town too. Theres a nice place to hang out with really comfy outdoor furniture, simple breakfasts, nice rooms and clean facilities, nuff said. Not a party hostel either, the people you meet here will be generally more interesting than the gringo trail backpacker crowd at some of the others!
