Owner description: The Tulum Monkey Sanctuary was closed on October 13, 2014 due to the death of the owner of the property. Thank you for your support. The Tulum Monkey Sanctuary is a privately owned 60 acre ranch. On the ranch we have 15 rescued Spider Monkeys that live in natural habitats. There are also wild monkeys that pass through on their normal feeding routes. In addition to Spider Monkeys we have saved many, many animals including lots of street dogs. Although the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary is closed at the moment we hope you will support us in our move to the YuCARE Ranch. The YuCARE Foundation will be dedicated to broad based animal rescue (starting with the monkeys of Tulum Monkey Sanctuary) and will be self-sustaining both financially and environmentally.

“Great Experience (except for fleas)”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Awesome, awesome experience to see monkeys in the wild!!! They were quite curious and hung around quite a while. I did, however, come away with numerous flea bites. Be careful and bring some sort of bug spray.

“Good trip during riviera maya visit”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

The ranch itself is very rural including bathrooms. Don't expect your typical snack stand and souvenir shop because there isn't one. Instead, you get to learn about these wonderful animals in their own environment which is very cool! Very different from anything else you will do while at riviera maya, the ranch was so quiet and I wasn't being harassed by anyone trying to sell something. The people in charge are passionate and personify that during the tour. You get to interact closely with the monkeys and get to know them. Very cool, must do!

“Monkeys”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

The couple that run the Monkey Place are truly inspiring they started out with 1 sick little guy left on their doorstep and now they care for over 60 monkeys. The admission is $80 per person but all of the money goes to the care and upkeep of the monkeys. Heidi and her husband truly care about each one of their "kids". We took my 12 year old niece and she really enjoyed the interaction with the spider monkeys. We did many things on our two week trip but the highlight for her was the monkeys. We spent well over an hour in the enclosure with 6 or 7 of the females, you will get your hair "done" by Teva and little Michelle just wants to lay in your arms and get a cuddle.

“Ok for kidsy”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

Not all that well organized. Best described as a Mexican farm with monkeys. For the price, there are much better things to see in the area. That said, at least they are trying to help the animals. If you want to help the cause, you at least get to interact closely with monkeys, a camel, etc. If you have kids, like we do, it may be worth it.

The Sanctuary is like nothing else you'll do. To get this up close and personal with these incredible Spider Monkeys is thrilling! Your Kids will never forget it! Trust me!. Wear pants and long sleeve shirts and bug spray. John is so passionate about his work, you will enjoy him too!
