We have a bad taste in our mouths after our experience here but I will say what's good and not so good about this resort. Spacious hotel with beautiful beach though not the best for swimming. Mexican styled rooms but a/c not cool enough. Gorgeous location, close to beautiful Tulum and out of the touristy Cancun area. Note you need a car to get here and around. Food at the all inclusive restaurant was good but they would greatly benefit from some variety - leftovers were recycled for the next meal and they had the same 2 pasta dishes every day. Pool bar was awesome and the free flowing piña coladas were a refreshing touch while lounging under the palapas. Internet should be included but we had to shell out an extra $40 for access for a week. The animators are friendly but some are a bit pushy and annoying - we made it clear we wanted to relax and not be bothered but that didn't stop them from being intrusive. Lastly but MOST IMPORTANTLY, they provide a safe in your room and you better use it! We used it every night and day until the last morning when we were packing to check out. The cleaning lady walked by our room and saw that we were packing. We left the room for 30 mins for breakfast - that's when she took her opportunity to help herself to $100 US and $500 MXN from our wallets! We were shocked but didn't realize until we were at the airport. After a call from my husband (Mexican) and an email from me, the hotel did NOTHING other than remind us about the room safe, which they pointed out was available for free. So it was our fault!! Aside from that our time there was good but never again will they get our business nor will we recommend them to friends or family.

We stayed at Pavo on July / Aug 2013. After some careful research in UK we booked 7 days all inclusive package. This was our week to chill and relax and it didn't disappoint.
On arrival we received a welcome drink while checking in. simply charming.
Our luggage was carried for us to our room which had a lovely authentic Mexican feel and was perfect. Nice showers, good pressure, air con, safe and fridge that had bottled water every day. There are ocean views if you want perfection. This resort really is on the beach.

Canoeing give a go - single or double. Good walks along both ways on beach. Sea is lovely and blue and welcoming.

This resort has only opened recently (Jan 2013) after a storm caused some damage.

Food here is buffet style and of a very good standard, fresh salads (good choice) , pasta and a meat option as well as fish. At lunch a tacos chef is present and cooks fresh in front and the dessert chef stands ready to serve you.
Your are waited on here at a very good standard and staff are very friendly.

Pools are excellent and you have a choice of 3. There is a spa but it must be turned on for you.
Massage is available on the beach area and I recommend. I had two during our 7 day stay, but remember to mention how you like as deep tissue is available. All done while the waves roll up on a sand drenched, caribbean beach. Diving masks and flippers and canoes await your free hire.

Trips - My first recommendation is go to the local cenotes (this is a clear water type lake and you will find an abundance of choice. The nearest is a 10min walk - turn right outside hotel and walk for 10mins and you will see it on the left. 20 pesos. You can enjoy the clear water (cooling) and canoe in the 500yd lake (no crocs).

Sea Turtles - there is a local place Akumal - you could get taxi and hire mask and flippers at the beach. Not sure if guides operate but hire cheap. Alternative is book with the Hotel who have a small dive shop on the beach. I think we paid about 600 pesos for two. But you will get a guide and he will also take you to another cenote which will amaze you. Wet suits available but water is cool at first but not too bad. Depends on time of year , but Mexico is hot so the change of water temp ok for this trip if you decide to go on one.

Pavo Resort is very lucky as the turtles do come up on this beach at night and lay there eggs. There are guards but very friendly. All egg locations are marked. We saw two nights these giant graceful creatures grace there presence - truly wonderful. Although we didn't see them several guests commented on seeing the babies hatch. Of course this is seasonal so check google on months before you go. Under water camera an idea.

Entertainment is provided all day with the animation team at Pavo. They are all charged and ready to keep you going from drink games, volleyball, aqua circuits in the pool and relax classes during the day and then entertain with a show of there joint talent with singing, sketches, acts and dancing, well worth going along too.

Drinks included are varied , wine at meal times, soft drinks and there are enough alcoholic drinks to keep you very merry(suntime drinking at your own risk), but the main labels are extra.

Poolside snacks are always toped up - for those of you like me who love to lie in - 11am is when these appear.

The mix of guests are good and all very friendly.

Things to watch - check at bus terminal cost of Taxi - you may get ripped off as resort is away from downtown.

I give this resort a 9/10 - if they offered breakfast in room it would be my perfection. But other than that this is a good location, excellent standard and service resort in Mexico. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: rooms that have the straw roof - hacienda type look -

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in July/Aug and had a wonderful and very memorable time. We loved the beautiful beach, of course, and the excellent service provided by everyone working at PavoReal. We were looking for relaxation, and that's what we got. We were also lucky enough to witness the most amazing sea turtles come up to the beach to lay their eggs. If this is something you are hoping to see, the summer months are the best time to go to Tulum.

Make sure not to miss a massage from Ignacio, who was so kind and professional, a physical therapist, giving massages right at the beach. I would say there is no better way to have a massage than at the beach, listening to the sound of the waves. It was just perfect.

The buffet was delicious, but the restaurant would perhaps benefit from varying the menu a bit more.

In conclusion I would definitely recommend Pavo Real to people going to Tulum!

We recently spent 4 days at Pavo Real and loved every minute of it. The beach is amazing with lounge chairs, palapas, and a bar for drinks and fun socializing. The rooms were cute with a wonderful good-sized balcony, and a comfy couch with view of the sea. So even with a few rainy days we could be outside enjoying ourselves on the deck. The three complete buffet meals were a healthy mix of Italian and Mexican. Lots of yummy grilled vegetables. The breakfast pastries were incredible. All of the staff was helpful and hospitable. The professional Italian singers were outstanding! Unbelievable singing voices and quality of entertainment for a small and quaint hotel. There is a dive-shop on site with a 30 year trained diver. Scuba and snorkeling are both available. My husband enjoyed and felt very comfortable practicing his scuba skills with Pepe. This hotel is nice for a romantic get-away as well as a family trip. I hope to go back in the near future with our big family group. I highly recommend a trip to Pavo Real in Tulum.

We stayed in the PavoReal for 4 days during our Mexico trip.

We booked a room with garden view, and during registration the reception manager mentioned that hotel was 20% full only and we will be sure to get a great room... which turned to be a room with a view on metal construction. We asked to change, and ''of course it was possible to get a better room but with +50USD/day", which we refused. At the end we were given another room with "garden view" which was roads view, so we never used our balcony.

The main thing to know about PavoReal is that it is an ITALIAN ALL-INCLUDED hotel, with all good and bad things about it.

I should admit that we chose the hotel because they were promising 3 times/day Italian food, and after 2 weeks of Mexican food this is quite welcome. And food is quite good!!! Breakfast is awesome. There is fish day once/week, amazing!!! But overall you get tired and pasta is not as Italian as in Italy. And in this ITALIAN all included hotel the only non included thing is ... expresso!!! So if you like real coffee it is 20 pesos and in bars only.

Other "all included" thing is that you get "GO" (gentils organizateurs?) - animators. They are nice guys, but remember, hotel is not so full, and there are almost as many guests as animators. So they will hunt for you and make you sing karaoke and play games! If you are not ready for this don't choose this hotel! (In one of www.booking.com reviews of the same hotel guests called animators "mosquitoes")

Well, when of course if you choose Tulum, that was for the sea and the beach!!! Well, the beach looks amasing! Palm trees, transats are impeccable. 5/5 for those! BUT... the see is full of dead corals and not so deap, so you cannot really swim, you have little places with sand only (max 2-3 meters large) and dead corals which are not nice to step on. And as they are dead snorkeling is not impressive. We thought all Tulum was like that until we went to Tulum ruins and was wonderful beach there... just sand... So after that we took our car every day and drove 15 min to Tulum Paradisio public beach.

Other negative point - Wifi. Only at the lounge, and EXTREMELY SLOW. Opening your Hotmail or Facebook takes 30-40 minutes.

Good points - most people are nice, barman guys are great!!! It is situated on the way from Tulum to Playa del Carmen, so good location to go to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cenotes, Akumal...

Also note that you definitely need a car to be in this hotel.

We will not come back there and will not advice this hotel. If we go next time, we would take something close to Tumum Ruins, as sea is much better there.

This is a hotel for Italian retired people.

Dear Anna JV79,
thank you for your comment, we appreciate every opinion about our Resort.
The room you booked through a well-known website has got the characteristic to overlook, almost to dive into the typical jungle of Riviera Maya or our gardens and internal small paths. The upper level rooms that our staff proposed to you with a daily supplement, are sea front or sea view.
The first room assigned to you overlooked the jungle, the second one (number 66) overlooked our well-tended gardens, between the block of “Palapas” and the restaurant. Everyday life in the Resort is very calm and safe. It is pleasant to stay in the patio of your own room to read a book or just to relax on an amaca, at guests’ disposal upon request.
We are glad that you have appreciated our food, starting from breakfast. Our chef, as you have been able to appreciate personally, are always available to prepare particular meals, if it is necessary and required for delighting the stay of our guests.
Our Resort, as advertised everywhere, is a pleasant compromise between the wild-life hotels of “zona hotelera” of Tulum and great hotels of American chains of Cancun or Playa del Carmen. A small and professional group of animators entertains guests that desire it, with a great handiness. This job is not always easy, but our guys are the flagship of our hospitality and we are proud of the affection that they show every day to our guests and to the Resort.
We are glad to read that you have appreciated the surroundings of our Resort, starting from Maya ruins of Tulum that we often visit together with our guests. The 300 meters of our seaside give the possibility to choose the relaxing atmosphere or the entertainment, fine sand or the coral reef of a protected and unalterable area, the shade of the palm trees or of the beach umbrellas. Everyone can choose the style of his holiday, in respect of nature in which the Resort is immersed.
The almost wild nature of the environment that surrounds the Pavo Real Beach Resort is wonderful and appreciated by our guests, but sometimes it makes difficult the Internet reception that it is not always as fast as it is in settled centres or towns. The decision to prefer a small Resort far out the chaos obviously requires the use of cars or the most traditional “colectivo”. The latter lets live in close contact with local population, appreciate their usages and habits, and know little secrets that nobody will find in the guides: this style of holiday, loved by young people, is used habitually by most of our guests.
We are sure that the friendliness and the helpfulness of our staff, good food and the nature that surrounds us will remain a good memory of your short stay in our Resort and will invite you to visit us again.
