I have been to tulum twice and this is my first time at an all inclusive resort...in fact, other than a cruise...this is my first all inclusive anything. Pavoreal is very authentic...and feels like you are in Mexico...my boyfriend and I went for our 1 year anniversary and wanted a romantic spot...Pavoreal delivered. The beach is secluded nad feels private..the guests were very multicultural and added to the experience. We met French, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Argentenian, and American guests. Very family friendly. Lots of wild life on land and by sea. Beachcombing is decent and snorkeling is fair. The drawbacks are that the beach towel service is very limited and STRICT...two towels per couple...thats it and if you get them dirty you can only exchange them for new ones between 9 and 12. They are also very strict with snorkel equipment and kayaks. YOu cant use a kayak for more than an hour per day or a snorkel mask and equipment for the same amount of time..you cant snorkle and kayak either...its either one or the other. As for the other parts..the room we had was a superior sea view..very nice...clean...but few amenties. we had a safe and a very tiny refrigderator. Air conditioning was definitely a plus. THe food was AMAZING...lunch everyday was so fresh and the drinks by the extremely friendly bartenders were strong and tasty....I especially liked my mojitos. The pools are decent and the beach is immaculate. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Junior suites are the best bet seeing as they are the largest and are right on the water...superior...

Well, where do we start?! We had a good time at this resort. The staff are very friendly, and the rooms are good quality. You've gotta get something facing the ocean. There are other rooms off to the side that I wouldn't have wanted to be in.

Pros

We had a room upstairs, our friends larger suite was downstairs and both rooms had a balcony facing the ocean.
We had a bar and two pools outside our room. Elisio cut down coconuts with a machete and made us some great drinks.
The omelette bar at the buffet was good, and some days they had pancakes.
Fresh fruit at the buffet is great.
I participated in a free yoga type stretching routine on the beach in the morning that was really cool.

Cons
The coffee at the buffet is not fresh! It comes out of a machine. It's not bad, but it's not fresh. Very disappointing.
The buffet is okay, but the same scrambled eggs and nasty refried beans everyday are not good.
I was told I could change my room reservation, 5 mins after booking it, and they were supposed to refund the difference. I spoke to the hotel 3 different times and they assured me it would be fine. But, checking out with Angela, she said No, and proceeded to read me the cancellation/change information. I told her who I spoke with and she would not budge, she was really nice about it too. After being stung by a sting ray on the beach I was too exhausted to argue with her.
There's a lot of seaweed on the beach, and this means high biodiversity. Watch out for stingrays, you do not want to step on one. I thought they'd be further out, but I stepped on one about 15 feet from the beach. Management made me go to the hospital and the cab was $50 round trip. Stiches were free.

Raul was great, Alex, Elisio, all of the Italian staff, everyone was very friendly. We really enjoyed our time here. The first day we swam in the ocean was so amazing. We got some great photos.

Next time we would rent a car. The taxis have no meters and are very expensive. If you don't speak spanish, forget about it. You're better off driving. It's not as dangerous to drive in Tulum, as other it is in other parts of Mexico.

Also, you must exchange your money for pesos before you arrive or you will get a horrible rate...

Bring your own maps, it's hard to get a good one. Most of the handouts are advertisements.

All in all, great experience.

Summary> very nice view and beach, rooms very clean and pleasant to sleep in, food below average.

We stopped here 2 days while travelling from playa del carmen to tulum and were very pleased by the staff and service. The room was also excellent for the price. The vue is just spectacular. Beach is clean and quiet.

On the other side, here are things to be improved:
- the food was way below average and not really changing from one day to another
- drinks are not high quality (usual stuff with all inclusive offers)
- although clean bathroom it doesn t smell very "nice"

I could really recommend this place but only if customers are willing to go elsewhere to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.

1.we arrived in the middle of the night, and the receptionist welcomed us with a double price than the one we got, saying that if we don't pay now we can go!!! Finally we found in our suitcase the first price we got and showed it to her, and she agreed to let us in our room.
2.we changed 3 rooms... The first smelled so bad, we can't describe how much. Than they moved us to a room with no a.c.
And the door got stuck and locked us inside.
When we left the hotel we played for another extra night, and saved the recites. After a few days we looked at our account and saw that the hotel charged us behind our backs, for a double amount of money!!!! We wrote theme and sent theme pictures of the recites we signed on, and asked theme to refund our money, and they wrote us back, saying all kind of excuses!!!!
Be carefull with your visa, and watch out!!! They will charge you when you're not looking, and use your signature!!!!!! They took all the rest of our honeymoon budget from our account!!!!

Dear Mr Shiriroda, first of all we would like to thank you for choosing our pretty Resort for your vacation. We suppose you loved it as you extended your stay here for two more days. We also have to thank you for your four points rating about our fabulous location surrounded by the jungle and overlooking the blue Caribbean Sea.
We checked your guest-history and we’ve found out that you’ve changed your reservation days several times as follows:
First reservation by an OLTA from Apr. 13th to Apr. 16th
Second reservation made directly to the Resort from Apr. 21st to Apr. 23rd
Third reservation made both directly and by the same OLTA from Apr. 23rd to Apr. 25th
Fourth reservation made directly to the Resort from Apr. 21st to Apr. 25th , and the last one by direct email, from Apr. 19th to Apr. 25th.
This is just to say that the front-office staff fall down in trouble with your dates and that’s because they have charged from your credit card a wrong amount. They didn’t use your signature, they only used the authorization you gave once you booked the room. We’re very sorry for that, but once they checked the mistake, they promptly gave you back the money, and with the apology from the hotel manager.
Meanwhile we’ve to recall you that your booking confirmation was for a superior room and you were free upgraded in a Junior Suite, by the velvet beach and overlooking the sea, as a gift for your honeymoon! About the rooms, the front-office staff promptly answered to your request, even if they checked that the room was ok. The AC too, was ok when you arrived and, as any machine can do, fall broken the day after. Due to the AC you had to change again your room even if our maintenance staff repaired it soon.
Thank you for your attention and have a very nice day.

My boyfriend and I Just spent week at Pavo Real. We were in a Superior room (112) directly on the beach. The room was spacious, quiet, and very clean. We requested a hammock and I would lay there each afternoon with my cocktails watching the pelicans dive for food! The beach was beautiful! Clean white sand and beautiful water. Not crowded at all. Pools were extremely clean too. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The food was average. All buffet style, except for the Mexican dinner. Breakfast and lunches were good. Dinner was just ok. We're not fans of pasta or fish dishes. But overall there was enough selection that made it 'ok'. Our only complaint was there was no eating outside. Every beautiful day it would have been nice to sit at the outside bar tables to have breakfast or lunch. It was a little inconvenient to put on clothes and shoes for lunch when you were wearing wet bathing suits. The bar was fine for us. Unlimited Beer and frozen drinks made by Armondo! There is an upcharge for top shelf, which we were aware of prior, so we were ok with that and brought our own. There was plenty of bottled water and ice available at all times.

We were not impressed with the nightly shows. Although the staff works hard and were entertaining, the speakers were way too loud. We would have preferred maybe a local band music/entertainment indoors with a bar and some and dancing.

Recreation- kayaks and snorkel gear are free of charge. Snorkeling was not great (if your a scuba diver). However the diving was fantastic! The dives were close (by boat) and were beautiful!! Abundance of coral and fish life. We also snorkled Sac Actun Cenote and Labna-Ha Cenote and loved them both!! What an experience!!!! We also went to the Monkey Preserve. I really enjoyed it!

The cab rides aren't too expensive, but can add up if you go lots of places. You can walk out to the main road and take the locals bus (collectivo) into town for much cheaper than a taxi. We felt very safe everywhere we went. The public beaches were beautiful, clean, and lots of people. Fun w music and bars. However we enjoyed our beach at Pavo Real better. More peaceful. You can spend an afternoon walking south on the beach (past Dreams) and you will find some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen!!! Clear Blue calm water, white sand, very few (if any!) people, and lots of palm trees!

Overall Pavo Real was exactly what we were looking for ... Relaxing, beautiful beaches, quiet, close to activities, and not overpriced. We both absolutely LOVED Pavo Real and the entire Tulum area!

Thank you everyone at Pavo Real. We spent 5 nights here with my wife, and 3 children. We loved the Italian food in the buffet style restaurant and the food in the Mexican restaurant was also very good.

The beach at this resort is small and clean, with perfect white sand, and an underground cenote flowing into the sea a few hundred yards stroll down the beach. Beach away from the hotel front is untidy, they should clear it up a little.

The staff at the resort are great fun, always trying to organise a game of volleyball, salsa lessons on the beach, pool aerobics etc. But if you just want to lay on a lounger they won't disturb you. They try their best with the evening shows as well, which are un-missable!

Thanks to Verena on reception, she helped us a lot with a mix up over our booking dates.

This resort is not big or flashy, it is simple compared to some others along this coast, but it is clean, tidy, very chilled out and relaxing and the staff are just great.

Note that the crowd that visits this hotel are mainly European, Italian and French, some English, some Americans, Argentinians, we met a great variety of nice people. This was a nice change from some other resorts which were full of Americans getting drunk all day long. If you want an all inclusive hotel just because they will serve you strong alcohol all day long then don't go to Pavo Real

We were first here when it was Freedom Paradise in 2005 and 2006. We feel in love and were devastated when it closed. When we heard it was reopening as Pavo Real we had to visit again. We requested to stay in the stucco buildings on the north side of the resort, and were pleasantly surprised when we received a free upgrade to a junior suite. Our room was clean and comfortable. We were steps away from the beach and the beach bar. We loved the diversity of the people and the animation team was wonderful and friendly. The food was definitely European themed, but that added to the experience. The biggest complaint we had was that there was no coffee available until 7:30 am. My husband is an early riser and that really was a negative for him (not even a coffee maker in the room). We LOVE the snorkeling....beautiful fish and coral, the beach is amazing. A close walk to the cenote is a fun trek. We relaxed more on this trip than we ever have. With everywhere we go... our motto is to make the best of something we haven't experienced before....just because it's "different" doesn't make it bad.
