“Great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

No TV. No phone. No all inclusive food courts. No kids. Perfect! If you would miss any of the above this is NOT the place for you. If you are seeking tranquility, disconnecting from the world, sand between your toes and sound of the ocean most of the time, this is it!
Beautiful, small hotel minimalistically yet tastefully decorated. But you can find nice hotels all over Tulum and the area. It is THE STAFF that makes this hotel exceptional! Wonderful staff! From the reception desk, through the Ziggy's wonderful waiters all the way to the gentleman who maintains the pool and garden and folks that clean your room. They are Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen! Can't name them all but they are ALL amazing!
Also great food and service at Ziggy's restaurant and wonderful massage from Veronica. This is the very first hotel that is on our list to return to. We will definitely go back to The Beach Tulum.

This was our first visit to the Yucatan, and we looked long and hard for the perfect city and hotel for our stay. We were looking for a beautiful, quiet paradise, and we certainly found it at The Beach Tulum. We had not taken a long vacation in a couple of years, and The Beach Tulum was the perfect place for us to rest, relax, and enjoy each other. The beach is absolutely stunning, there are plenty of daybeds to lay on and enjoy the sun, and the staff will make sure to accommodate your every wish. Gabby at the front desk was able to take care of all of our needs, and the staff at Ziggy's (the restaurant) made sure our stomachs were satisfied and our drinks were always full. The rooms are big with lots of natural light, the bed was large and comfortable, and the porch had a lovely sitting area complete with a hammock. The rooftop terrace was also a nice place to hang out and watch the sunrise/sunset. All in all we had an excellent trip, and I would like to personally thank Angel, Gabby, and the rest of the staff for making it such a memorable experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in #7, a deluxe room on the second floor. It was the closest room to the restaurant/bar, b...

We just came back from a week at the Beach Tulum in Mexico. The staff was not only friendly and accommodating, they went out of the way to make sure you had the best experience every day. I can't say enough about Leonardo and his dedication to his customers. We looked forward to his warm and upbeat personality every day. You can see the pride he takes in Ziggy's Restaurant and it shows in the food and service. Jose made sure our drinks and lunch got to us every afternoon at the beach. Abraham was the most charming server in the evening and the ladies at breakfast always started our day off right. Dan at the front desk went the extra mile to get my earring out of a small hole that it fell into on our headboard!
The location is superb. Open your sliders and step out onto the sandy beach. The best sunrise is right there. We are already talking about our next visit there.

Room Tip: Ask for the superior deluxe. All rooms are on the beach but these have a roof top terrace and you ca...

I feel like I need to tell our entire story so others can get an idea of what to do. We are in our 26's and we both had never been to Tulum or drove a car in Mexico, luckily I speak Spanish so this was relatively easy. Using a map and researching Mexico helped us easily find our destination and avoid any kind of scam we were brainwashed into believing. I highly recommend renting a car with EasyWay as they include the insurance in the overall price and all other car rental companies do not. I cannot stress enough how helpful it was to have a car in Tulum because all the traffic from the taxis and other cars make it dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists to get around.

Anyway,
We stayed at the Beach Tulum Oct 14 to 20 and we booked on booking.com, our reservation went through and I emailed the hotel to verify they received the reservation months ahead of our vacation. While we were there the weather was spectacular. We expected a rain-shower every day but it never rained. Our favorite days were the ones were we just laid on the beach and swam in the ocean. The hotel is on a tiny road full of other similar looking hotels however, despite the street looking busy the beach in front of our hotel was very secluded and rustic, it truly felt like a relaxed paradise away from a busy city like Dallas. We heard in another couples conversation that our hotel was fully booked (20 rooms) which was weird to us because we never saw that many people on the beach. At the most we would see maybe 10 other people on the beach in front of the hotel. Our room was on the second floor which was disappointing at first but we ended up loving it because it was more private than the 1st floor rooms. Our room was simple but comfortable the bed was big and the patio was awesome as well as the roof-top balcony. You can see the ocean from the shower! We didn't miss having a TV or wifi in the room, Wifi is available in the lobby and Ziggy's which helped us keep in touch with our family. Also, I picked The Beach Tulum because it has A/C from 7pm to 7 am, it was perfect because that was the only time we were in our room. We didn't hear any loud children the entire time except for one day that some people stopped to eat at Ziggy's restaurant which is right next to the hotel, They seemed like they were staying in Cancun. Ziggy's restaurant was so delicious, breakfast was included with our reservations which was a big plus and one of the reasons we chose The Beach Tulum... because who wants to wake up and have to find a place to eat while on vacation. The food is made fresh when you order it, no buffets...The staff is so friendly. We cannot say enough great things about The Beach Tulum, we cannot wait to go back next October or even in January or February!

If you like open air restaurants with fresh ingredients, where the floor is the sandy beach then you will love Tulum! We enjoyed not seeing Wal-mart, Starbucks, McDonalds, traffic, and crowds.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 12, did not hear any construction, put lots of sun-screen, my boyfriend burned his...

We stayed in mid-October in one of the Superior rooms with the rooftop tub and deck. We sat on the deck one night with our laptop and watched a movie. It was a unique way to enjoy the full moon we had during the trip. I would suggest if staying at The Beach that you get a room with the roof top deck. It was nice to have although we didn't use the tub. The Superior room is also nice because you have direct access right out to the beach from the sliding doors in the back of the room. The hotel and grounds were well kept, clean and beautiful.

Things to know..........

The Superior room had a lot of windows that could be opened and all of them had screens to keep the bugs out. We did not ever see any bugs in our room. We did get some bites but not many and we didn't really use any bug repellant during our stay. I think if we had used the repellant more often at dusk and in the evening we would not have had many bites at all. The only place we seemed to get bit was around the bar. Also watch out for the big (fire) ants which we saw around the resort.

The hotel has a beautiful beach with beds and plenty of shade. It was not crowded while we were there so we never had a problem getting a beach bed in the shade.

Weather during our stay was great. Probably in the high 80's and humid with no rain. We really didn't need the air conditioning (this hotel only has air conditioning from 7pm to 7am) even though that was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. The room was comfortable during the day with the windows open and the ceiling fan going and we would have slept fine at night without the air conditioning.

Contrary to popular opinion on TA, hair dryers can be used (at least at this hotel). In fact, the hotel will let you borrow one. I brought my own travel dryer and the only issue was fitting the plug into the outlet. The outlet was in the wall in such a place that made it difficult for the large hair dryer plug to fit. But I was able to get it to work. Note each room appears to have it's own circuit breaker panel (ours was in the closet) so when I did blow the circuit one time, we were able to fix the problem immediately.

We used bottle water for brushing our teeth and drinking. Note that the hotel only supplies you with two very small bottles which you can refill as often as you want in the lobby. We had bought some bigger bottles on our way to the hotel and were glad we had these bigger bottles to fill up. We are happy to report no traveler sickness issues during our trip. For me that is a first. I have traveled extensively and only in Mexico do I ever get sick. But not this trip. We also ate at the restaurant and had drinks at the bar, as well as, eating in town at El Camello. I think maybe tourist spots in Mexico have become more diligent about using purified water for ice, drinks and food preperation, etc. But I would still stay away from any tap water.

The rooms are neat and clean but sparsly furnished. We happened to like this style. There is a small closet with drawers and a room safe. I think the closet must be a newer addition as I had read comments on TA that the rooms did not have anywhere to put things. Note the safe was big enough for a small 13 inch laptop, cameras, etc.

We used the airport transfer service offered through the hotel. It was a bit more expensive than other services we saw available but it was on time and we had no issues being picked up at the airport or with our return. It was nice that we could charge the fee to our hotel bill and pay when we checked out.

Drinks and food at the bar and restaurant can be charged to your room and paid at check out. We enjoyed the drinks and meals we had at the hotel. Everything was delicious and the free breakfast had a great selection of items.

We had read comments on TA that pesos were the only thing accepted in most of Tulum. We did not find that to be the case. Although we only used pesos, most places said they accepted US dollars or pesos. We did not try to use credit cards anywhere but to pay at check out at the hotel. But we did have vendors say they would even take plastic (although I would be worried about giving my credit card or debit card out to some of these places).

The hotel, bar and restaurant staff were great. Service could sometimes be slow at the restaurant but it was no different than other parts of Mexico or the Caribbean. It is best just to realize you are not at home and things do not work the same way they do at home.

The toliet was an interesting experience. You cannot flush toliet paper down the toliet. Instead you throw it way in the trash can provided. Believe it or not, this seems to work out okay. We never had an issue with smells or anything. Took some getting use to but by the end of the trip it had become second nature.

Final comment is about privacy in the rooms. The bathroom is an open design but does have a door to the toliet. I could see some couples might not feel comfortable with everything being so open. Also when you have the windows open it feels like people can see in from the outside. We checked this out and it did not appear easy to see into the rooms with the way everything was laid out. I think someone would really have to be trying to see anything in the room.

There are many, many hotels to choose from along the beach in Tulum and all appear to be a little different from one another. We were very happy with our choice of The Beach Tulum.

Room Tip: We liked having the roof top terrace and direct access to the beach. Both are available with the Su...

The Beach Tulum is a beautiful very relaxing place. We were treated very well and enjoyed our stay so much we would definitely go back (and I am not that kind of person). We went at the beginning of September and the weather was wonderful. We stayed in a deluxe room which had a roof deck for unreal stargazing at night. The room was so clean and fresh feeling. The details were definitely there. However, the view both from the covered porch and upper roof deck was spectacular. The staff was courteous and very knowledgeable regarding local activities both on and off the beaten path. The food was very good in the restaurant for all meals. Of course, the bar was fantastic. The beach and grounds were well maintained and the pool was clean and interesting. By the time we left (6 days) everyone was calling us by name.

One day early in our trip I was admiring the gorgeous flowers and the lady putting them together gave me a bouquet and then more showed up in our room later. They also put really cute animals made out of towels on your bed every day. One of the more interesting once in a lifetime type experiences we had was helping rescue baby sea turtles that had gotten disoriented and were going the wrong way. Hotel guests and staff joined in on the rescues (which happened almost every night we were there) with the Sea Turtle Rescue people. They even have an employee who checks the beach at night for them.

Everyone from housekeeping to the wait staff, the front desk, the managers and everyone in between made this a great stay.

We'll be back.

Room Tip: All of the rooms seemed to be great. They all face the beach. It depends on whether you want ground...
