“A perfect stay!”
Reviewed 14 September 2008

The room was the cleanest among all the rooms we visited during our holidays in Mexico, and it is well furnished too, with all things you could need.
They gave us breakfast included and it was good and rich.
Janet and Jack are so nice, helpful and attentive, they give a lot of useful information to live your vacation in the beast way.
Thanks also to Jesus for his beautiful towels sculptures!

This hotel is a jewel and Jack and Janet were absolutely the ultimate hosts! After our arrival at the hotel, we were promptly greeted and taken to our room. The room was super clean and wonderfully decorated... we immediately felt right at home. Jack and Janet gave us the best recommendations on places to visit and eat. We've been to Mexico 8 times now and this has been the best hotel we have stayed in and it was definitely our best trip yet!

My Wife and I just spent the last five days staying at the Posada Luna del Sur, in Tulum Mexico. Upon arrival we were greeted by Jack and he immediately made us feel at home, then Janet came down and gave us a map and the scoop on where to eat, what to do and what to avoid. They place the recommended for us to go the beach was unbelievable, we nearly had the beach to ourselves. The first morning one of my lenses popped out of my glasses, I asked Jack where in town I could go to get a new screw. Jack took my glasses and fixed it himself while I finished my breakfast, he didn’t want me to spend my vacation trying to find a screw for my glasses. The room was exceptionally clean and large; the Wi-Fi was blazing hot and the room was nicely decorated. It isn’t the Hilton but for the price for the room it has to be one of the best deals in Mexico. The first three mornings was still in high season so they had coffee, fresh fruit and bread. Jack and Janet met us for breakfast asking if there was anything they could do for us that day. One of the things that impressed me the most was the protectiveness they have over those who stay there. One of the couples was going on a tour that day and was going to pay by travelers checks. The tour guide was going to give them an exchange rate of 9.5 pesos to the dollar. Janet sternly begins to tell the man in Spanish that he would not “cheat” any of their guests and that he would give the couple the exchange rate of 10 Pesos to the dollar or else. I didn’t want to know what a Janet “what else” is nor did this tour guide. The towel art by Jesus will put a smile on your face when you walked in…Even the last two days when it wasn’t high season we asked for a coffee pot to be put in the room. Jesus brought us a coffee pot; coffee and even put two coffee mugs into our room.
Thanks Jack and Janet for a good time in Tulum!

We stayed at Posada Luna del Sur for our recent trip
to the Yucatan. It was a great location from which to
explore the neighboring areas (Coba, Tulum Mayan ruins,
cenotes, etc). The place is immaculate, safe and secure.
The proprietors, Jack and Janet, were super hosts and provided
all the info we needed to explore the area. They even helped
us setup accommodations for the next leg of our journey. We
truly enjoyed our stay there.

This tranquil little hotel made our recent honeymoon a delight. The rate was very affordable and worth every penny. We spent a week in town and stayed every night at Posada Luna del Sur; with every day we seemed to grow more fond of the place. The rooms are big and sparely decorated with nice showers and bright white bed and bath linens, though you'll need to bring your own beach towels or buy them in town. The air conditioning was an absolutely essential part of staying comfortable in the scorching summer temperatures, especially at night – and you won't find a/c in most of Tulum's hotels. We'd return from a day at the beach to a sparkling clean room with a pretty towel sculpture by Jesus, the charming housekeeper. In the mornings we'd walk just a few steps down the beautifully tiled & landscaped main corridor to a breakfast with fresh-squeezed orange juice, great coffee, and fresh pastries and fruit. Over breakfast we'd hear lots of good advice from Janet and Jack, the hotel owners, who are very friendly without being at all intrusive. Be sure to ask them about snorkeling in cenotes (amazing!) and at the lagoon in Akumal, as well as the turtle walk sponsored by the ecological center in Akumal. They also gave us some great restaurant recommendations. We especially loved Tacos Diaz (cheap and good in a town where food can get pricey pretty fast), and Azafran for one of the best brunches we've ever had. We had rented a car, and we took the short drive to the gorgeous southern beaches most days, but we were glad that we didn't have to spend our nights at an open-air cabana. At the end of a beach day, we were always happy to go back to our nice cool sand-free room and walk into town for dinner. Tasteful, comfortable, and mercifully far from all-inclusive, Posada Luna del Sur is a wonderful spot for more independent travelers to stay in Tulum.

  • Liked — Helpful, friendly innkeepers
  • Disliked — Some aspects such as the hot water and septic system took a little getting used to, but they were not big problems.

We have recently spent a great 10 days with our two daughters (19 and 21) staying at the very special Posada Luna del Sur. Janet and Jack have created an exceptionally warm friendly and welcoming atmosphere in this little haven of peace. Nothing is too much trouble for them - they are always happy to advise on anything and have excellent local knowledge on places of interest to visit.

The spacious rooms are light and airy with a seating area, large very comfy bed, washbasin and plenty of storage space. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower and everywhere is kept immaculately clean. There is care to every detail and Jesus surprised us every day with a different towel art sculpture. Our room opened onto the beautifully kept garden where we could sit and relax. Every morning we enjoyed our breakfast of fresh fruit, fruit juice, bread, croissants and coffee.
We found plenty to do whilst staying in Tulum – we hired a car at Cancun airport and apart from the excellent beach clubs, we visited Chichen Itza, Akumal Bay where we snorkelled and saw turtles, barracudas and shoals of fish during the day and went on an amazing turtle walk at night and saw 103 newly hatched turtles racing towards the sea and two others building their nests! We also visited Puerto Aventuras for the dolphins and Playa del Carmen. There were other things to do but we ran out of time!

On Janet and Jacks recommendation we found many good places to eat in Tulum and we enjoyed exploring the town. It is a safe and friendly place, it has not yet been spoilt by tourism and has a real Mexican feel about it. We would love to return and of course stay with Janet and Jack again!
