La Chan Cabanita is a quiet little B&B on the beach of Tulum - so small that you might miss the entrance between the other hotels that try to attract your attention with big signs. And this is a good thing: After the first night we had La Chan Cabanita all to ourselves and Moni (one of the nicest hosts ever) does not seem to want to change anything about this because she wants to keep it small and make you feel at home, not like in a huge hotel.
She and her staff make your stay as comfortable as possible. Ms Pinky makes the best eggs in the world (ask her for huevos a la Mexicana; although she only speaks Spanish and we know very little Spanish, it was very easy to communicate with her). She also brought us delicious snacks in the afternoons. The men who do the maintenance also take care of security; they were always there (sitting at the front desk at night which made us feel very safe). As said before, Moni is an amazing host. We had lots of interesting, helpful and funny conversations with her. When we arrived, she showed us every room that was available so we could choose one. When we mentioned to her that the first night had been a bit sweaty because there was no breeze coming from the ocean that night (this was in August!), she offered to move us to La Mexicana (1st floor) because it gets more of the breeze. So, the next 3 nights were very pleasant. As the electricity for the fans was down and I was a bit scared of getting more mosquito bites, she even brought us a fan connected to a very long extension lead (in the end, we did not see one mosquito in the whole place).
The rooms we lived in are amazing. They are very clean, nicely decorated and have comfortable beds. The view is worth every Peso you pay for your stay!
Through a little garden you get to the beach. There are several sun loungers in the private part of the beach so you don't even have to lie next to all of the other tourists of Tulum beach. On the beach you can find lots of dining options: the beach bar right next to La Chan Cabanita (Tacos) has good food and drinks. Make sure you save up a little money to have dinner at Posada Margherita - the food is fabulous and you can spend a very relaxing evening here between beautiful furniture and hundreds of candles.
Should you stay here on a Sunday night, take a taxi to La Zebra and enjoy a wonderful evening at the Salsa Party with live music.
All in all, we would definitely recommend La Chan Cabanita and the next time we visit Tulum we will stay here again.
