“We had a great time”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

We stayed for four nights with our baby daughter (6 months). We were lucky to stay in cabin 10 which is right on the beach. We could see and hear the ocean from the room. The place is simple and pleasant with no attempt to seem posh or upscale. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is great fun and the margaritas are awesome. We would love to come back when we get a chance.

Room Tip: Go for the cabins. they are amazing.

My wife and I stayed here for the second time. It was the perfect spot to get away from the cold and stresses of home. You're right on the beach, with the ocean front bungalows located on the sand. The rooms are simple, but to us that was part of the charm. We came to get away from the fast lane. The beach here is spectacular - turquoise water and no rocks. We spent most of our time at the hotel - lounging on the beach and eating at the restaurant. You literally don't need shoes for the duration of your stay, as even the restaurant is on the sand. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

First of all, if you stay here it is under the pretense that you want to be ON the water. The hotel is, and it is a nice hotel. If it is their beach you want to enjoy, you Will have to pay sit on it whether you stay here or not; and be prepared to fight outsiders for spots! Also, be prepared to pay a flat 70 peso each way for everything you might want near the city, including excursion starting points. Not the end of the world, but it adds up quick.

The rooms are ok. They are super basic, just a bed and bath. It is true the mattresses and pillows are less than enjoyable.

The people here are friendly and mostly sincerely helpful. I think it was a rarity, but our first night here they had a party going; so instead of the sound of waves we paid to hear, we fell asleep to the electric slide. A laughable apology was not a fair compensation. We ran into an issue when opting to stay here an extra night rather than spend the time trying to last minute find another hotel, transportation etc in Cozumel. They told us no problem and when I went to pay the first two times they were busy and I was on my way out. When I finally got the time they said my room wasn't available and the price had gone up. They switched our room, fine. Then at night the employee who told us we could stay stated that since he forgot to tell us about the increase the owner was going to make him pay the difference: 11 USD. Not the end of the world on difference of price, just enough to put a sour taste in the mouth. The real issue is in this employee asking me to pay it instead of him. What type of owner does that. How about a thank you to the guy who convinced us to stay the extra night.

That type of business practice would probably keep me from coming back. Combine it with the uncomfortable bed and I definitely won't be paying prime. To top it off the monotonously lacking breakfast ensures the deal. The options are a plate if carbs in the form of toast and croissant, or pancakes is a tough 2nd and third to the ever cold eggs and cold beans, but hey, at least it's filling.

I think there are better options for this price point and certainly owners who aren't taking advantage of their employees.

My partner and I went for a long weekend and stayed in unit 1, on the beach.

It was, as some have noted, an imperfect place, but we loved it and the proximity to a great beach (20').

The service was good and what I call earnest, tho not resort style polished.

Will def return.

La Vita Bella sits northward, in a more quiet section of beach than southern counterparts - though other beaches, restaurants and yogi-centric shopping can be reached by bike (in 10-15 minutes) and cab (5-10 mins). It also a closer cab/bike-ride to the town center than from the southern stretch of beach.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous but not overdone. All cabana rooms come with porches, hammocks, mosquito-screened windows, fans, large beds, simple decor and furniture. The grounds are up kept meticulously (trimmed palms, swept sand walk-ways, dusk lighting, and just the right amount of beach furniture without being overcrowding).

The included breakfast is an impressive array and quite fulfilling, with restaurant seating inside and outside, overlooking the beach. ALL staff were incredibly informative, friendly and not-overbearing. If we wanted a drink on the beach, we were serviced immediately. If we didn't, we were left peacefully. We did not eat any further meals as it was a bit expensive and we have had better Italian elsewhere, but the pasta here is made fresh daily!

The beach here is truly lovely and better than other stretches; clean, white sands, turquoise waters, quiet but with enough people walking back and forth to be entertained. There are snorkeling and water sport activities offered only a 5 minute walk north and its only a 15 minute walk to the base of the Tulum ruins.(though not accessible by way of beach).

We never asked about whether the hotel had (complimentary) bike rentals. If you don't have a rented car, a bike is going to be quite helpful (though there are bike rental places not far from the hotel).

We thought staying here one of the best decisions we made along our trip. Well worth the money.

Room Tip: We had room #20 (partial ocean-view/garden view). It sat a little back from the beach-front rooms bu...

No idea where to begin, but to be in a beautiful hut on the beach... which from what I could tell is the closest to the water of any of the 40+ hotels in Tulum... just heaven.
The beach was super quiet compared to the busier southern beach. The staff at La Vita were incredible.. the room was fantastic, the perfect size... The restaurant is very good, sure not the best in Tulum, but great for a least a couple of nights of your stay... and the free breakfast was truly incredible... such a little addition these days, but made such a huge difference. I used Tripadvisor for days, hours, weeks to find the perfect location for our trip, and this is the first time I'm writing a review cause it was that good. Do not even bother looking at another hotel. Try to get hut 1, 4 or 10. We had 4, which again, was the closest hut to the water of ANY hotel in Tulum. Viva La Vita e Bella.

Room Tip: 1, 4 or 10.

I arrived at La Vita e Bella in a truly tired state (from my home country but also from explaining in the larger resort why I was a single traveller (f). Therefore, La Vita e Bella was both a retreat from the overwhelming inclusive resort as a introduction to Tulum. I love Bohemian settings and Tulum was on my 'to visit' wishlist.
Tulum doesn't fall short in 'bohemian'-ness: if Ibiza has gotten too Iphone-camera onto the hippy experience (thinking of Benirrás Beach this year)...Tulum still has some rest and the idea of tranquility. La Vita e Bella totally connects to this idea of simple but gorgeously bohemian decorated rooms with a splendid view: also, thanks to Helena from the desk.
It still has enough 'modernities' for our modern traveller: the WIFI is in the restaurant (why be connected in the room when you have seaview? Hence, perfect from deconnecting and re-energising). And the water is warm, from the shower. It is actually a good shower without going into these faux-rainforest experiences.

Room Tip: Room no 7 had a perfect beachview, and the most adorable walk-in closet ever!
