“Somewhat disapointing.”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

We have stayed in Tulum on a few occations and had quite high expectations to this place after reading good reviews. I must say that we had a "standard room" on 2. (top) floor fo a palapa style building, behind the beach front cabanas. I can not vote for the cabanas, as I have only seen them from the outside. To get to the room, we had to climb 2 very steep, narrow, winding stairs, and we had to ask for help to get our luggage up. Even for Tulum, and especially considering the price, the room was very small, really nowhere to put your stuff, 3 very small triangular shelves was all, even very limited floor space. 2 very weak lamps, one hanging from the middle of the ceiling, and one hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom, made even finding our clothes difficult.
Luckily we had brought a flashlight. The beach was nice, the moderately priced restaurant was ok, nothing exceptional. When we went to get our first breakfast (included) in a hurry the first morning at 8 (breakfast from 8) we were told that they were delayed, and we had to wait 20 min. We couldn't, as we had made appointments, so we missed the included breakfast. We were compensated with an extra croissant (!) the next day. As we realized the next day, we probably wouldn't have had time to eat anyway, as the service was exeptionally slow.
It was the most disappointing of the hotels we stayed at in Mexico, and not worth the price.
You could try the beachfront cabanas if you can afford it. They look somewhat more promising from the outside. I would not recommend the standard room, better elsewhere.

Good afternoon
First of all we would like to thak these guests for their comments; always helps to improve our service. Also we are very sorry that they felt uncomfortable during their stay.
Our rooms and the hotel are not overpriced; room rates fit totally the Tulum market and the place worth it. Mexico is a big country with plenty of different hotels and locations; is not possible to compare the hotel rates from side to side.
We are really sorry about the delay on your first breakfast; usually our restaurant is very punctual, due the fact our clients love have breakfast eraly and then enjoy the beach.
For that reason we would like to compensate you with a free dinner that you kindly refused.
Kind regards

It's not quite a desert island but a small cabana here on the beach is probably as close as many of us will get. The hotel is a group of thatched roof cabanas on the sandy beach only a mile or so south of the Tulum Mayan site. We had a beachside room with a veranda, three chairs and a hammock as well as a designated parasol and two chairs on the beach just below our room. The room is adequate without being luxurious and the decor is basic. It could do with a bit of smartening up as there are a few cracked tiles and other small maintenance issues that need to be addressed. There is no air conditioning but we did not need it as leaving the windows open with just the fly screens in place meant there was a constant flow of air through the room.
The bar and restaurant provide a good choice of reasonably priced food, important as there are no restaurants nearby. Portions are huge so often a dish can be shared.
Service was friendly and efficient and the hotel provides a comfortable beach side experience without the pretentiousness of some other similar places.

Room Tip: A room on the beach is the only reason to come here

My husband and I stayed here one night to get away from the hustle & bustle of Playa del Carman. We had an awesome stay which was very quiet & relaxing. We had a beautiful view from our 2nd story bungalow, which was very clean. The room was simple, but had all that we needed. The beach here is absolutely beautiful, we had very good service on the beach while we lounged in our beach chairs. The staff was very efficient and friendly. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: We were on the 2nd story and the stairs were very steep and narrow.

My husband and I have stayed here three times and we love it! Totally laid back and idiosyncratic, this is the place to go when you just want to relax and enjoy life on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You live in a comfortably furnished hut right on the sand. King sized bed, nice handcrafted tile bathroom. No TV, no radio, just plenty of good WiFi. Little covered porch with a hammock. A giant tilapa houses the bar and restaurant with the chairs and tables all in the sand. You can stay at the Ritz when you visit Paris, when on the Riviera Maya, why not go native?

We had amazing time in La Vita e Bella. First night we got the back side (patrial view) casita, which was not exaclly our ideal place (very smal and more than basic) so next day we changed for upper cabana (nr.23) for the rest of our stay - 6 days.
And yes, we were very happy with our choice. Beautiful view on the sea, room was quite simple but comfortable, clean and big enough. Privacy is also the best from all casitas, in our opinion and felt safe, althought there is not a safe or locker.

Restaurant was nice, good food, very good beakfast - mexican choice - and service was all right. With little tip they all are smiling at you :)
The beach is excellent, one of the best we have ever seen. We definitely will come back to our "penthouse" nr 23.

Room Tip: If you really want to enjoy, spend little more for upper cabana, we stayed in nr. 23, way less expan...

The Parillada Mixta, a seafood platter for two, has been our Thanksgiving feast for the past six or seven years. It never disappoints. We love the casual vibe of the restaurant, with a sand floor inside looking out at the sea, or tables right on the sand. We usually get our platter with a chilled bottle of Chilean wine, and have a dip in the turquoise sea before or after our meal. The hotel is close enough that we sometimes bike to the ruins, then have our feast in the late afternoon. It's our Thanksgiving tradition and we love it.

We had a nice room, but very rustic. It's no Hilton, but then we had a deck that over looks the sandy beech and blue ocean. Room was clean, staff friendly. Breakfast was good, although the included breakfast is limited. For a change, go to Ziggy's. Beech was beautiful, and picturesque. The only downside was there are no safes in the rooms. The lock on the door was kind of funk, difficult to lock and unlock at times (we were in cabana 6).
