We were not staying at Retiro Maya but it seemed like one of the more welcoming resorts along the beach. We managed to bag ourselves a couple of loungers and a parasol and got down to a day on the beach. You don't have to pay for the loungers but they request you eat and drink at their restaurant. I was a tad reluctant at first but In the end I was pleasantly surprised.
The restaurant menu is predominantly Mexican with a few local delicacies thrown in for good measure. We ordered Cerviche, a green salad, fish tacos and chicken tostadas. Its fair to say we over ordered.
Everything was made fresh to order which is always good to see. It was a large portion of very tasty, fresh cerviche served with nachos and habanero sauce. It was also a very generous sized green salad. By the time the tostadas and tacos came out we were pretty much stuffed but that said we had a stab and they too were very good indeed. Again very fresh and tasty. We washed it all down with homemade lemonade.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and freshness of the food. We probably did order too much food so the bill was a bit pricey. They also add 15% service to the bill but that said you are eating well with friendly service just off the beach in Tulum.More
