“An incredible artsy retreat on the beach”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We spent 4 nights here during mid June and from the minute we walked through the unassuming wood gates to our adios, every minute felt welcoming and relaxing. The staff here are great, helpful and friendly. The rooms are fitted with a hammock, comfortable mattresses and pillows, bright colors, architecturally interesting circular windows, mosquito netting, crafted wooden tables, a closet space and the bathrooms! Beautiful art work on the sinks and even the toilets, original art work designed from one of the owners. The restaurant is for guests only and is delicious serving breakfast with fresh local fruit, you then can order cocktails throughout the day and dinner for a few hours in the evening. Suenos Tulum is casual where the wi-fi spot outside the temple/lobby (hand built stone by stone in a mayan design) is fitted with hammocks and chairs. There is an incredible beach here with creative seating including a stretched tarps amongst logs and a lofty sail above for shade. AND a pool! when you're ready to shed the salt water and have a lazy float.
Note that the hotel is powered by solar generators so power is between sunset and sunrise so the ceiling fans typically switched off around 6am which made it a little sticky in the room, but usually the ocean breeze kept the temperature for sleeping bearable. I can't wait to go back!!

Room Tip: The only reason I'm giving sleep quality a 4 rating is because the lack of AC made it a bit warm...

I stayed at Suenos Tulum for the first time last month. The Maya Riviera is becoming full of large, impersonal resorts, and it was nice to find this magical, well-run hotel offering what I consider to be the real Tulum experience. I felt so connected to the sea and the jungle here, while still being comfortable and well cared for. The innkeeper was very helpful, the food was great, and the room was clean and cozy (though a little run down).

My husband usually does all of the vacation planning. Somehow this family trip was left to me. It gets harder to plan a family outing when our young adults start to have their own lives. I didnt invision a mega resort for this trip. We only had a week and I wanted the opportunity to focus on each other. When they heard I had chosen a family owned "eco friendly", non airconditioned sight the eyeballs began to roll. They were mercilessly teasing me...oh Mom, nice job!

HOW I LOVE TO BE RIGHT.

This place was perfect. We loved our rooms. The sound of the trade winds easily blocking out the sounds of snoring! The key to a cool breeze was cracking the front door open...we felt that safe! We slept like babies.

The food was excellent. As stated before there were not a lot of options but there were enough. It is a small place and what they do, they do well.
You will want to go off campus but you will appreciate coming back "home".

Francisco, Eduardo, Mateo, Domingo...they know your names! You are not a number.

It is super casual, loved not having to put my shoes on for a meal.

We will miss being here.

Do bring lanterns to help read at night!

Thank you Suenos! Dreams do come true.

This was our first trip to Tulum, although we travel to Mexico 2-3 times a year. The beaches in Tulum, and in particular at Suenos are outstanding!! We loved the covered beach hammocks and the ability to walk for miles on the soft white sand.

The hotel was immaculately clean and pleasantly decorated. Food and drinks were very good. But I must disagree with other reviews that state the lack of AC was not a problem. Maybe it was because we had a second floor room rather than the 3rd floor master, but we were so hot that we had trouble sleeping at night. The fan did not provide the comfort we needed, and there was very little breeze thru our unit. Also the lack of electricity- none during the day to keep the room cooled down with the fan- and the lack of outlets to blow dry hair, left a feeling a bit of a mess on our vacation.

Eduardo was wonderful!! Rest of the staff were not particularly friendly- but met our needs. There are also many nice restaurants you can walk to each evening- but do not order fish meals until after dark or you will be inundated with flies.

One note on the hotel- there is a lack of privacy in the bathrooms as the guests staying in the levels above you can see directly into your bathroom from their porch.

Our next trip to Tulum we will be staying with AC.

We booked Suenos as our 2nd choice when planning our trip to Tulum. We are Sooo happy that we found it! Never worry about AC... the breezes from the ocean are perfect Day and Night and the fan is adequate, in fact a few nights we did not use it. The King size Beach Bed Hammocks with Sunsails over them and the Beach Lounges are plentiful and comfortable, the beach serene and gorgeous and we walked miles on the beach so we compared many beach facilities.
Suenos serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to "Guests Only" in an open air, raised Palapa overlooking the Sea. Each meal we had there was very good and the Ceviche we had for lunch was superlative. Drinks were OK...they may use a Mix so they were not the best we had while in Tulum. The low key and friendly service is seamless and almost unnoticed.
Many wonderful restaurants on the Jungle Side and the Beach Side are in walking distance or a short ride.
Take half the clothes you originally plan...This Eco Chic paradise and area is not so Chic that you need anything special. We travel frequently to many various locations and we will return to Suenos. In Fact we tried to book Christmas and it is already FULL!
The architecture of the new main building is Mayan and the story of building it is unique and special, be sure to ask about it.

Room Tip: Most all rooms face the Sea. One room behind the Restaurant Palapa and on ground floor may be the l...

This was our third time visiting Suenos Tulum and I can't believe I haven't written a review until now. I think it's because I want this place to stay a secret. However, everyone who is a part of Suenos deserves much more credit than I could ever write. Suenos is magic. If you are looking to be barefoot, relaxed and spiritually connected...this is your place. Every detail is artistic and natural. The rooms and beds are extremely comfortable. The food is incredible! We celebrated our 7 year anniversary here and had a spiritual ceremony on the beach. Giovanna, Elizabeth, Jorge, Francisco, thank you for going above and beyond for us this trip and making it an experience we will never forget. Mateo, Domingo, Eduardo & anyone who's names slip my mind, thank you for all you do and the Chilaquilles, which is my new favorite breakfast. The Suenos dogs are all very important to us as well & deserve honor, as they were a part of our ceremony. Can't wait to return!!

Room Tip: All rooms are great!

Great little hotel with just 12 rooms. Very private and very eco yet stylish.
Great room with fan. You definitely don't need any AC here because of the nice breeze, just leave all windows open.
Perfect beach with very nice shaded loungers. They are so relaxed that they don't bother to offer you drinks and food on the beach (but they do bring it when you ask for it).

Room Tip: roms an the trird floor of the bungalows get the nicest breeze at night.
