“A friend's house more than a hotel”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

This is a very nice boutique hotel, the perfect size to have a personal chat with the owner and get all his attention.
Gary will give you all kind of tips to navigate Tulum and the Riviera Maya, and the tips will be tailored to what you are looking for, not just where the hotel gets a percentage of the sale. All the recommendations were excellent , tailored to our needs.

The location is very good, in the middle of great places to eat and not in the main avenue full of cars and traffic. Andromeda street is just one block away from the busy area but close enough to have ATM, bakery, laundry, great eats (even a good bakery), or convenience stores, all within easy reach.

Very good price for what you get. I had considered a hotel by the beach, but why pay us$250-300 for a place that don't even have electricity 24h a day?

my partner and i do not like resorts or pre-fab style hotels
and therefore, this is great hotel was exactly to our liking-
very clean, private, "petit" hotel with very hot pebble-floored shower, comfortable bed, hot tea and coffee always available, nestled in the middle of the sleepy town of tulum.
hands down, the best tamales, tacos, etc. within a 3 minute walk.
this hotel is not neighboring other hotels, it is neighboring the local people that live in tulum,
which was one of the reasons we loved it so much.
we heard the sounds of roosters and dogs that lived nearby and even spotted a tiny owl perched about 10 feet from us at sundown.
very helpful owner who was clearly happy that we were happy.
i would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: we had room 1 on the 2nd floor. it was at the end of the hallway and was the most private, which we...

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Latino in Tulum for ten days. We found Gary (the owner) and his staff to be helpful and knowledgable. The rooms were clean, and the location is conveniently located near restaurants that are more affordable than eateries near the beach. We rented the hotel bikes, and found this to be an easy way to get around so that we didn't have to rent a car. In instances we needed to catch a collectivo, bus, or taxi, we just had to walk a block. Were we to return to Tulum, we would stay here again. Our only concern would be to make sure that the bar around the corner wouldn't be blaring their music until 5 AM like they did a couple of nights we were there, but this may have been due to a festival of some kind. Although the music didn't last all night long most nights, the music is quite loud until late, therefore we rated our sleep quality as average. If the music doesn't play at this annoying bar, you will sleep soundly as everything else was quiet at the hotel.
Happy travels!

Since Gary took over the hotel some 18 months you can tell the love and the passion he has put in it. Renewed rooms and an alert service are a new addition to what the hotel already had: a central location in downtown Tulum (near to every restaurant, atm or shop), excellent design, a cute pool to chill out after the beach and an unbeatable price. I've just stayed there in Jan 2012 for 3 nights and the overall experience was great. Roberto

Room Tip: upstairs rooms have a private terrace.

First time at the Latino hotel, a small boutique hotel in the centre of Tulum, and enjoyed every minute !
The new managers (Gary and Liz, have been there for 1 year from what I get) are amazing and spent so much time helping us around and letting us know what to do and where to go. They know all about Tulum and will make sure you have a great stay. Gary even booked us a great massage on the hotel's terrasse, for a very affordable price.
The rooms are very clean, not noisy at all, but really what makes this hotel great is its managers.
Having visited a few places on the beach, avoid them at all cost (they're expensive and most of the smaller places are not very clean...), go to the Latino.

We couldn't have asked for anything better. The rooms were clean, stylish and functional. The owners were delightful, we lucky enough to be upgraded as they had a spare 'suite.' Upon arrival we were given a map and run down of the restaurants, sights and things to do. Hotel Latino is located next to the main street, so it is away from the noise but close enough to wander across to dinner. Perfect accommodation!
