In August we stayed at the Latino hotel for a week. Beautiful room, clean, excellent service and the owners ( Liz $ Gery) are willing to help with anything that you need.
We strongly recommend to stay in this hotel which is located in the city center

Me and my wife slept there during our honeymoon.
Gary and Liz are very nice and friendly, and helped us in everything we needed.
The rooms (about 10 rooms) are not very big, but with large bed and air conditioning. The mood in the hotel is very charming and elegant.
The hotel is in Tulum city, and not on the beach.
Very recommended for couples!

I spent two weeks in this nice little hotel. The rooms are very clean and the service is very good. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.
It was very quiet and I was able to sleep soundly because the hotel is on a street with no traffic at all.
Good shopping and dining possibilities near by and not far at all from the beach!
Highly recommended!

we stayed here on our way back from belize because we thought we'd mix it up and stay somewhere different (my partner had stayed here 2 years prior when it was brand new). i preferred the first place we stayed (secret garden) by far, but this was nice enough. it hasn't been greatly maintained (not much is in mexico!), but it was clean enough. there's a teeny tiny cute pool but it wasn't very clean looking. we were the only ones there and we brought some people from coba who needed a room - and they got a cheaper rate for a much better room - was kind of disappointed they didn't offer us a bit of a refund but to be fair, we didn't ask. it's kind of noisy and would be noisier if there were more guests, as there are wooden slats above the door (which are now taped shut, probably because of the noise) and the whole place is kind of stark (minimalist design), but it's nice. i prefer the more lush/gardeny type of courtyard to hang out in, but the room was comfortable. great location, more of a happening area - great tamales a couple of blocks (south) beside the oxxo station!

it's VERY hidden - you'd never know it was a hotel, just a plain white wall you walk behind, but since it's a couple of blocks off of the strip it's a quiet area.

we paid 450 pesos for a downstairs room, the upstairs ones were bigger, had fridges and little hang out areas with hammocks - they were 600-800 pesos.

we were looking for a place to stay a couple of nights in tulum and tried several places charging their holiday rates. we weren't fussed for a cheap continental breakfast or wifi in our rooms, so we passed on paying high $$ (in USD) elsewhere and happened upon the hotel latino. they are flexible on their rates if there are rooms available, so ASK. also always ask to see the room on offer (traveller tip number 1!) we had a suite on the upper level with fridge, cable tv, ac/fan, parking for our rental car. we were happy with the room at that place with one exception which hopefully the hotel will fix:
they need to clean the room everyday. make the bed, take out the garbage, etc etc. also, they need to get higher quality sheets. if they want to present themselves as a boutique/design/chic hotel, at least have bedsheets i can't see through because they are thin and are ripped in parts!

HotelLatinoTulum, General Manager at Hotel Latino, responded to this review, 5 August 2010
Hello,

Thank you for your review. I do agree the place needed some renovations when I took over. I'm the new owner and general manager of Hotel Latino for the last 2 weeks.
We've recently repainted the rooms, added new fresh sheets and new air conditioners. The hotel has had a new face lift since and still more to come.

Hope you will have the pleasure to come back and see us soon under the new administration.

Best regards,

Gary

My family and I definitely enjoyed our stay at this place. I wasn't blown away by the cleanliness and the decor was nice though maybe a bit boring but any perceived lack in these areas was made up for in others. The hospitality of the owner was really appreciated and he had a way of really taking the edge off since we were coming from intense jobs in the US and a year without vacation time. He helped us find lots of activities as well as nice places for dining in the local area. Some of the highlights about staying in this hotel was the proximity to town center without being on the main strip. There were also some incredible restaurants right around the area that we frequented during our week stay, one called Azafran and the other an Argentinian spot nearby. All in all we can say we enjoyed ourselves at Hotel Latino and despite maybe wanting for more in certain areas, feel it was a perfect place for a short stay in Tulum. And we don't feel like we shelled out more money than we needed to for the accommodation. It was fairly priced and delivered a decent experience.
