Though the service was excellent, this hotel is directly next to a huge condo construction site that does not appear near completion. Additionally, the shower was dirty (body hair and bugs), the showers were cold and the hotel is not at all accessible to the beach by foot despite how close it appears on a map. There is only road that can be used to access the beach and it is nowhere near the hotel. The hotel could be great if they either lower their prices to reflect the quality of the lodging or update/more carefully clean the rooms. I highly recommend staying at one of the hotels on the beach instead if this will be your first trip to Tulum.

Great little hotel for travelers of all kinds, except really picky ones. We were greeted by Evalina at the desk and she took care of us from that moment on. I was traveling with my partner and a couple of friends from Merida for a few days of beach and touring the ruins. On our first night, Evalina got the chef out from the kitchen so he could understand what we wanted for appetizers and the nachos were made deliciously. The rooms were of good size but the mattress was a little firm for my partner but I loved it. Service at the continental breakfast was great and it turns out the servers were also the maids and they kept the rooms in great shape, mopping the floors daily and replacing towels if you were a little less eco-friendly one morning. We spent the evenings in the dining area, playing cards and talking with other guests. Don Diego de la Selva was a great value and definitely recommend it.

I have been visiting Tulum for 35 years and have watched it grow. The first to grow is the number of places to eat. You can get it all in Tulum, from local Mexican to so called fine Cuisine. Having eaten in most of the them I can tell you without a doubt the quality and presentation of the food for the price at the Don Diego is the best.

I'm a cave diver and moved to the Xibalba Hotel for the one week of diving, they don't serve food, so I found myself returning to the Don Diego for dinner.

Another feature is the lovely gardens and lush vegetation that surrounds the Palapa where the food is served.

As we know most hotel food isn't great, but the food here will surprise you and you will be comparing every other meal to the one you had at the Don Diego.

My husband and I have stayed at Don Diego's for the last 3 years and each stay gets better. This year they have a new chef who is amazing. Who would expect gourmet meals at a small boutique hotel in Tulum! The staff this year was also wonderful. The tow young girls who worked in reception became our friends and made our stay so much fun. We laughed every day with the joy of being with fun people. We even got to meet Charles's parents who were charming. We can't wait to return to this little piece of paradise.

I would rate this as one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The room was perfect (hot water, no mosquitoes, air con & fan, attractive etc.). The Staff were extremely nice. The pool was beautiful. The b'fast (included) was tasty, well-presented and elegant.

We expected the location to be a bit out of town (20 min walk) and far from the beach (> 1 hour walk) so rented bikes (USD8 per day) for our entire stay. Brilliant as you get great restaurants at night and freedom/flexibility to go to the beach whenever you want (the weather wasn't always great).

(We later stayed on the beach for 3 nights and I didn't like it as much b/c less food choice and more expensive, stuck on beach with wind and rain).

Very nice atmosphere and well-managed. Location is fine but a car is a must unless you have a lot of extra time for biking and public transport. No need to stay at the beach to use the beaches and this hotel even has a nice little beach club that you can use. Regular plumbing and air conditioning is nice for Tulum too.

We spent two nights at this hotel. It is lovely with lush plantings and flowers everywhere. The rooms are spacious and have a hammock. The best feature of the rooms we stayed in, is that they opened to a large patio with another hammock and a chair. Behind the patio is a private garden area. I wish we had had more time to spend out there.

The two young women who helped us Nadia in the evening and Evelynia (sp?) in the morning were very nice and very helpful. The breakfast was fruit, juice and breads, beautifully presented. We felt very much at home.

The internet only worked well for us at the reception desk, but we had an ipad which may not connect quite so well. It worked on and off in the room.

We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
