“Warm welcome, great atmosphere”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

Just got back from our weekend at Salayish Lodge. Really, really lovely place and such lovely hosts. Please make the effort to go! We escaped from Addis by bus to Debre Zeit and although our taxi driver struggled to find the Lodge in the dark, our host stood in the rain giving him directions by phone. So massively appreciated after along day at work and dusty journey! As it was a celebration we upgraded to stay in the private lodge overlooking the lake. Wow, it was so worth it. We woke to an amazing view and had breakfast cooked for us by Lydia on our own terrace. Although the bed was little hard and we should of used a mosi-net (shows what type of travelers we are!), we had a really relaxing stay and will recommend to friends in Addis looking for an affordable weekend escape. Thanks!

I stayed there only for one day last month, at the very end of my vacation in Ethiopia. I was disappointed that I didn't know about this paradise resort soon enough. I would have spent most of my holiday here rather than in the heat and dust of Addis. Salayish has every thing what a man needs; tranquil atmosphere; beautiful scenery; and, the jewel in the crown, home made liquor.

I went and stayed over at Salayish with my sister and a friend of ours to have somewhat a quiet time and also to celebrate my sister’s birthday. If one wants to stay away from the craziness of cities, Salaysih is the ideal place to be. The rooms are clean and have traditional touch. They are surrounded by different types of trees. All one can hear early in the morning is the sound of different birds which I personally was thrilled to listen to. It feels like being somewhere in a forest. There is also another room on top of the hill with a lake view. One can see the sun set/rise from this location. We enjoyed our scrambled egg with 'firir' and 'dulet' for breakfast. All in all, for the affordable price charged, the experience I had there was memorable.

If you're looking for a quiet weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Addis, Salayish fits the bill quite nicely. There are no distractions (tv, radio), allowing your attention to be drawn solely to the peaceful and serene setting of this conveniently located lodge.
As mentioned in other reviews, there is a hut situated on top of a hill with a wonderful view of the crater lake and its surroundings. It has a sofa bed in addition to the queen size bed, thus allowing 2 couples to comfortably be accomodated there. I spent the night with some friends in that hut, and I must say that the view of the lake, both at sunset and sunrise, was breathtaking. A large number of migratory birds flew overhead during the early hours of the day, and we could hardly contain our excitement at the spectacle.
Although Salayish does not appear to endeavor to compete with the level of luxury promised at other nearby lodges, the accomodations were clean, facilities well maintained, and the food was very good... our dinner of fish, fresh from the lake, and vegetables was delicious.
The owner and staff were also very friendly and personable, and clearly concerned with making our stay safe and comfortable. In my mind, well worth the money spent.

I didn't stay at this new resort overnight, but I enjoyed a very good lunch of local Ethiopian food. The owner was very friendly and took us on a tour of the facility, which is beautifully landscaped and quiet. The rooms are stand-alone huts designed to blend in with the local scenery and appear to be well maintained and clean. He's just finishing a new hut that has a marvelous view overlooking the lake.
