First off, the Dordogne area is absolutely beautiful and a no miss if in France. The owner - Christine decorated the room and breakfast room fabulously, but we found the room and additional services nothing to brag about. We paid 80 Euros which was actually high for the area but committed to it as we had great expectations.
The rooms had a bed, ONE chair (her photos with two white chairs is now down to one), and "bunkbeds" that were apparently added to accomodate a family. No extra pillows were available, so I pulled off pillows from bunkbeds (had no pillow cases) and resorted to using them, but each day she made up the room, she returned the pillows to the bunk without a pillowcase (? so I wouldn't use them?) but I had hoped she would get hint to add a pillowcase or offer me an additional pillow, but that didn't happen in three nights.
So, if you wanted to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, small meal in your room or play cards, etc, you had to use the bed or the floor. The table outside is not located near rooms and once the sun went down, there were only "sensor lights" that went off every 30 secs or so! The entire area from the driveway, to the steep walk to the rooms and outside table was pitch black at night! A sparcely located sensor light might come on, but if you didn't run to your room in the 30 sec's you were stuck in the dark constantly waving your arms again to rush to your room. Since this area of the country was "dead quiet" you felt extremely guilty making any noise at all after approx 7:30 pm when it was dark. We brought an ipod and small speakers to enjoy in our room but again, you can hear everything from room to room and was afraid to bother anyone.
The sink area and shower were nice, but that is it. There was not a tv, phone, internet access, AIR COND or HEATING in rooms. (installed but not hooked up yet). Internet access is advertised but it only works within breakfast room which is "her house", and you are not allowed in there after breakfast. So, no common room to hang out, watch news, use your computer, etc. The room you rent is all you get. If you want to be a quiet reader - by yourself as two of you can not even sit in same room, this is for you.
Her breakfasts were good and she put alot of thought into homemade jams, etc., but I was looking for a " new friend and a room", not a nice outdoor hotel.
