“Nice landlady”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

We saw the sign for B&B on the pub along the road and the landlady herself showed us the way to the pub with rooms upstairs. We were there alone, so we didn't mind that the rooms weren't en-suite. We payed 72 GBP for three adults, we got a twin and a single room. There was a large bathroom with a toilet and a separate toilet, but I guess if all rooms are fool, it's a bit crowded. There was some noise from the pub, but it didn' bother us much, I always take ear plugs with me, they come very handy. We just found beds a bit too soft. We weren't asked what we would eat for breakfast and we were just served first some toast and jam, and then full Scotish breakfast. My husband is a vegetarian, so he told the landlady's son, who cooked, that he doesn't eat meat and he apologised and brought him another plate. He and his mom were very kind to us.

The overall feeling is that this should stay as a pub or B&B as the noise from the bar downstairs is VERY loud...i would suggest you decline a stay in No4 as it is above the speakers and the noise was louder in the bedroom than the bar !,Breakfast not very good and could not speak to the owner as he was nowhere to be seen.
on the plus side it was spotlessly clean although the shared bathroom and loo is not very convenient
The window could not be opened.

Room Tip: do not choose No 4 and make sure the windows can be opened as this constitutes a safety issue

Booked into our B&B. staff and locals very nice. Rooms clean and nicely decorated but not ensuite. There are 5 rooms that share 1 bathroom with shower, wash hand basin and toilet and 1 separate toilet with a wash hand basin. This room has a half glazed glass door that could do with a blind inside for privacy.

Breakfast average and nice staff serving.

A big problem is the noise from music in the pub. Unfortunately the speakers to the juke box are in the ceilings which means that the sound vibrates under the rooms and it sounds soooo loud upstairs its incredible. The landord has tried to find a solution by packing around the speakers but still the noise is horrendous. If you do not want to be in bed by 10-11pm and you will be up after the pub shuts, it won't be a problem for you.

Prices of the room quite good.

I hope the landlord finds a solution to the noise problem because it will put people off going again.

Bit dated, but very nice and clean. Room was not too big and it was a waste of time 'dressing' the double bed with extra fancy cushions, as there no spare space in the bedroom and got in the way during our stay ~ a damn nuisance actually.
Really nice breakfast.
There is a definite conflict between running a noisy pub on Saturday night and playing loud music and the poor unfortunate B & B guests in the bedrooms above, trying to get some sleep.
Some of the guests did complain and quite rightly so.

Room Tip: All rooms on Saturday night were really noisy from the pub downstairs.

Loud music from the bar sounds like its in your room. Kettle and lamps make the room look nice but we had to rearrange the furniture to plug them in. No sanitary bins in toilets or bathroom. Shared bathroom and toilet which has glass which you can be seen through. Breakfast -overcooked bacon, cereal filled sausages, half a spoon of tomatoes. Can't open window in bedroom. Asked them to turn music down, they did miniscully, never ever stay here. View of the cemetary Have stayed in better youth hostels.

A frequent visitor but recently disappointed, after a brisk walk, to find it closed at lunchtimes! Shame as the snacks/food was of good quality at a sensible price. Hopefully, at least the bar, will reopen in the spring.

Room Tip: Unfortunately there are no en-suite rooms - yet. This is to be rectified shortly.

This is a pub/restaurant with rooms. 'Ratings' below are only for the restaurant.
Sunday lunch - was persuaded by 'we had sold out by 2.30pm last week' when I visited for drinks during the week. At 1pm after a wet, cold 20 mins walk, we were welcomed into the busy, warm bar and shown directly to a table in adjacent dining area.
Drinks were brought to the table. There were 9 other covers already eating. (restaurant will seat 12 approx. comfortably) Lunch choice was beef, chicken & ham. Beef was excellent and really generous portions. Veg. was potato mash & roast, cauliflower, carrots, peas + two yorkshires. Separate gravy (requested) and HOT PLATES! Main course cost of £5 standard (£4 small) represented very good value.
Wine was the small 187 ml. individual bottles. 70cl bottles were £9.95 ish.
Everyone had booked for 1pm! The manager, waitress and chef all 'mucked in' and help serve which was good, considering the bar being busy, also.
