“Excellent food in great location”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Good service and the food was great. Very busy but plenty of staff so food order taken and promptly served. Would certainly look to go back next time we are in Pembrokeshire.

“Excellent food and good value ”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

Live close to the Sloop and often enjoy a drink outside which is a real sun trap on a nice day but haven't eaten here for ages. The service was very good and we decided to go for the fish, fish pie, cod and chips and fresh tuna. The food was fantastic. Thinly battered cod which is how my parents like it and a good chunky fillet of cod.The fish pie was superb and the tuna. Well priced as well. The one down point was the price of drinks which were well over priced. Would definitely go again though. Oh and was somewhat bemused by the comment made in a previous review " it looked like a locals hotchpotch" !! Well I dare say it would be since we're the people who live down here !! Shame on you

“80 minute wait and so-so food, beer cloudy!”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

We visit Pembrokeshire every year and stay in Trefin, nearby. I always write in the cottage visitor's book about how we are impressed with the cottage and facilities in the village and I also write about how we are always disappointed with the Sloop. It has the most expensive beer around - £3.80 for a very cloudy and bottom of the barrel Gower Gold (only £3 in Trefin) and we had an 80 minute wait. Yes, 1 hour and 20 minutes. We even went in at lunchtime and asked to book a table for 7 pm (this was midweek, Weds 18th June) outside, as we had our dog. They said, no need to book as those outside tables aren't bookable but don't worry, there'll be plenty free tonight and we've no large bookings. Well, we ordered around 7 - drank our poor beer and waited and waited. When I went in search of our food I was told there was a large party in. Why didn't you tell me this before? Most places would give an indication of the wait. When it did come it was "OK". Chips were cold and the lamb shank was a tad thin and its accompanying veg was one small carrot and a piece of broccoli. Value for money, no. The waitress did offer a round of drinks but we had friends to meet back in Trefin and had to leave. Our friend paid for the meal in advance, so there was little we could do. Look after your beers better - offer better customer advice and be quick to act when things go wrong.

“Highly recommended”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We stayed at a nearby campsite and were told about the Sloop. We decided to check it out and upon arrival could see it was pretty busy possibly due to the nice weather. We went in to find nearly all tables were reserved, we asked the bar staff if they could fit us in and luckily they managed to get us the last table, people were being told they were fully booked after we sat down so got there at the right time. As it was quiz night it seems many were booking a table for food and to stay for this. We ordered and the food was great and arrived quickly, there was a good selection of drinks too. The atmosphere was great as many had to be locals but they were polite and welcoming. The bar staff were busy all night but were friendly and chatty. The quiz itself was enjoyable and there was even an entertaining resident dog who had a particular liking for beer mats. All in all a great pub, with good good and a lively atmosphere. Basically book a table as it is that popular especially on quiz nights. Would recommend and will definitely come back if in the area.
