Visited the Shed Bistro at Porthgain and had one of the finest fish meals I have ever had. Good fish menu, fresh local produce, beautifully cooked and served by friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

The Shed is located in an old industrial stone 'shed' or warehouse right down in the harbour at Porthgain, with sea views and plenty to see in the busy little village before and after a meal. It is VERY popular and gets busy so book in advance or be prepared to dine early. The fish and chips menu seems good but the a la carte menu caught my eye, the service from young friendly staff is attentive and the value is reasonable.

Criticisms? The fly paper hanging from the ceiling, coated in many small flies - they may want to replace this every day, or ideally between services as it somewhat detracts from the otherwise presentable impression of the dining area! The condiments also need cleaning regularly - my set were covered in bits of shellfish / food. I know they are busy but these details only take a few seconds for each table.

The food was fine - fish is the major theme as you might expect of a seaside eatery and the wine list is good with plenty of choice. The setting is enviable, the staff friendly and efficient and all in all you are assured of a good experience. Recommended.

Usually we walk here from nearby Abereiddy but the weather wasn't too great so we drove instead. We were the first for lunch so despite not booking we had a choice of tables. Had to sit inside because of the weather, but had nice view of the small harbour. Service was quick and food was good - large portions which we could not finish! We did overhear the staff talking / complaining about their shifts and working hours, which we thought was not very professional. Sure, things need to be said, but there is a time and place for that - a busy lunch hour in full view (and ear!) of all who are there is probably not it! Still, the food was nice and we will come back. Not too expensive either. Service was quick.

Visited this Bistro at the end of a long day walking the coastal path. Was able to sit outside in the evening sunshine and had really tasty fish and chips, service was great on this occasion. Unfortunately when we visited for a second time there was a different set of staff, and the service left a lot to be desired, as did the a la carte menu. Stick to the fish and chips!

We had an early evening meal here. You definitely need to book in the evenings in summer. We could only get a table at 5.30. Everything later was full. The place looks like an old boat repair or a fish factory building. Nice and tidy inside with tables both up and downstairs. We had a nice table overlooking the harbour. There are also tables outside, but it was raining on our visit. Fish & chips is the staple choice. Lots of fish choices and with handy tasting notes for each fish. The owners have a fishing boat, so you know it's local and fresh.

We had a lovely crab salad to start - a nice mix of white and brown flesh. Then battered hake with chips and mushy peas. Really nice flakey fish with a thin batter. Washed down with a fab white Rioja.

The service was slick and effortless - even though it was filling up fast, the staff seemed in complete control.

Under £60 for 2 with a £20 bottle of wine - very nice. They also do steaks etc, but most go for the fish and rightfully so.

A must visit restaurant in this area.
