Swami Vivekananda Ashram, Shyamla Tal (Green Lake) is a holy and significant place in Champawat, Uttarakhand. The scenic beauty of the place is excellent and worth mentioning. A century before Swami Virajananda, direct monastic disciple of Swami Vivekananda, started this Ashram in the year 1915. Philosophy of Swami Virajananda was Vedanta. Shyamla Tal is a retreat for Monks and Devotees.
Shyamla Tal Centre has in its premises ‘Vivekananda Ashram’ and ‘Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama’ which is a Medical Centre serving the community. The prime activity is rendering service to the poor and suffering humanity. The place has many medicinal herbs and other flora on the hill sides. The Medical Centre happens to be the only source of medical relief in the entire vicinity and it is highly dependent upon by the hill fold. Shyamla Tal Ashram has a dairy also. Thus this ashram has not confined itself only in spiritual activities. The snow clad mountain peaks are distinctly visible from the lawn of the Ashram.
Distance of Shyamlatal from Bareilly is about 140 KMs. The Maharaj of the Ashram booked a room based on my email. The views of the foothills are spectacular and unforgettable. I am attaching few photos. They are many in my memory.
