“average because of the emploies”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

the installations are very good, the pool is lovely, there are pool tables and mini golf for the children, the rooms are nice, and the bath is large and very lovely. but, when u pay for the night u get breakfast for 2 adults , the children must pay, every child 90 pesos (like 9 dollars) for american breakfast, and if they eat just 2 eggs u will pay 60 ( like 5 dollars!!) pesos, something is very wrong with the prices. than u have to tip the waiter, if u don't tip them at the first day, at the next day u won't get any service at all, so i didn't tipped them at all. it started with because i was arguing the prices of the 2 boiled eggs a asked for my child. and than as a tourist u ask help from the reception, they could get me one good service or the telephone - i waned to go to the bulls fights, i wanted some horseback riding or just to call and ask for a pizza from the center of town, nothing!! they couldn't get an answer, they didn't know the phone number, they called but none answered...so many excuses, to tell the truth it's not the first time a have been in a Mexican hotel and get this attitude, a lot of times u need to tip them every time if u want a service. however there are a lot of hotels that actually mean that when they say:" para servrile" - it means we are here to serve u and help u, too bad that is not the case at this hotel.

Room Tip: u should notice if there are odors from the bath, if there are change room

The worst hotel in San Miguel. The pool was cold as ice. The room was old with a dusty carpet and with a lot of noise. Beds are uncomfortable and the bathroom doesn't even had a hair dryer. Staff didn't care about my complaints and their attitude was terrible. They even let dangerous tools outside my room and my kid almost got hurt. Pleas don't book for this terrible Hotel.

We had pre-paid for a standard room on Expedia (by accident, actually) at Mision San Miguel De Allende (Salida Real a Queretaro No. 1, Col. Centro (Barrio El Palmita), C.P. 37700, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Phone:415-152-1818, web: www.hotelesmision.com). When we looked at the standard room, it was too small with no comfortable place to sit. We saw a master suite, a regular suite and a junior suite. We decided on the regular suite and after much negotiation paid US$81 per day for suite room 208 (including all taxes and breakfast and free Internet by wi-fi).

Even so, we weren’t thrilled with the room (and we were staying 5 nights while we looked for our long-term accommodations in San Miguel). It was not air conditioned (no room there was) and the hotel was/is old. The suite had been renovated but the lighting was still very dim (a tecnico brought us a standing lamp and that was much better). The suite was sort of on 2 levels. The bedroom one step lower than the area where there was a sofa and a dining table for 4, as well as a side table. There was no closet just an open area with shelves and a small space for hanging clothes. We used the dining table for our 2 computers and Dimitri used the side table for stacking his clothes.

There was no mini-fridge. The restaurant of the hotel put our Igloo into their vegetable cooler. We had the hotel bring us a coffee maker from a standard room (that we saw when we were looking at rooms). The bathroom was renovated and there was hot water, notwithstanding all of the TripAdvisor comments that there wasn’t any. (However, it has to run for at least 4 minutes before it is hot.) There was cross ventilation but the street that we overlooked was noisy. The other window that we had was screened when open but with no security whatsoever. We couldn’t leave either of the windows open at night. We had the hotel bring us a standing fan and it blew on Audre on our first night. She slept with ear plugs and a sleeping pill. It was around 76° F during the night in the room even though it went below 60° outside.

We did have wi-fi Internet (Dimitri said that the speed was our best so far in Mexico when he tested it) and we could stream classical music. (People on Trip Advisor said that Internet had not worked during their stay.)

There was a parking lot for our car but there was no security guard and the gate was left open. We took everything out of our car and the bikes were locked up on the hotel property. A very nice young man named Pedro (who spoke English with a Mexican/Texas accent because he grew up in Texas) helped us. Fortunately the suite was large enough for all of our luggage. The hotel had a huge, walled, site with a big garden that had a pool and a miniature golf course. It was nicely landscaped.

At breakfast on our first morning, we had an American breakfast that was included in the suite price that Dimitri negotiated. We could have juice or fruit, coffee and 2 eggs any style. We had brought bread at a wonderful bakery/restaurant the night before (Cumpanio, Correo 29, Col Centro, San Miguel de Allende, 37700, Guanajuato, Mexico, tel. 415-152-2327, www.cumanio.com.) So we had a good baguette with our hotel made eggs that were also good (and came with the inevitable frijoles).

The hotel is not as awful and the TripAdvisor reviews (in Spanish) report but it isn’t going to be a place we would heartily recommend either.

Room Tip: Look at more than one room

We spent two nights at this hotel and were disappointed how far it is from the center of town...at least a mile downhill. So, it's a mile uphill to get back. While the rooms were clean and nicely decorated, we had a room backing up to a large fenced parking lot. We heard a great deal of noise during the night making it hard to sleep. There must have been a local roadway there as voices and dogs were heard frequently during the night. Maybe other rooms were a lot quieter. Breakfast buffet was okay, not great. We will find a different place to stay if we're lucky enough to return to San Miguel.

Room Tip: Don't get a room backing up to the fenced parking lot.

My husband and I just completed a 5-night stay at this hotel. We needed to find a place to stay after the one we had confirmed on line did not turn out to be what we had hoped. From the beginning to the end, we had nothing but great experiences. Here is what we recieved for 950 pesos a night (about $75 US). Free parking, free breakfast with many choices, a bedroom loft suite with it's private terrace, mini kitchen and great service. Our bed was a king size bed, and by Mexican standards (usually their beds are pretty hard), ours was firm, but comfortable. We had maid service every day, and this hotel is only located 1/2 block from the Plaza Jardin in the heart of Centro SMA. We left our car parked the entire time and walked almost everywhere. When we needed to take public transportation we either took a bus (5 pesos) or a cab (30 pesos anywhere in Centro).

Room Tip: In case you can reserve ahead of time, we were in room 32 and it was a lovely suite. Kindness goes...

Arriving at the hotel, we had to argue of the price from our print-out. Not a good start. We asked for one of the newly renovated rooms, but received one of the old ones instead. Questionable cleanliness in the rooms: we found hair in the bathroom and a rotten orange in one of the drawers. Our room wasn't cleaned until we called the front desk for maid service each day. Mold was enthusiastically growing on the ceiling of our bathroom, as they don't believe in bathroom fans, and the windows were screwed shut. There is no safe in our room, and the front desk staff just put our passports in an unlocked drawer when we left them for safekeeping. The pool was filled with small debris, and the few lawn chairs in sight didn't have any cushions. Nasty breakfast and beds like sleeping on a slab of marble. At least it's a little outside of town, so it's relatively quiet. The staff were super-friendly and helpful except for one front desk clerk.
