“The perfect get-away”
Reviewed 29 March 2010

My husband and I spent a very comfortable two and a half weeks in one of the suites. We had our own private balcony where we were able to sit and look over the city. Barbara made us feel at home right from the start, and we really appreciated the relaxed atmosphere. Nearly everyone met for breakfast in the morning where we had interesting conversations with the rest of the guests and ate the wonderful breakfasts prepared by Jovita. Casa de la Noche is a beautiful place that reflects the love and care of its owner.

My daughter and I spent a very relaxing and pleasant week at Casa de la Noche. Our hostess Barbara really does go the extra mile to make your stay both interesting and comfortable. She can advise, and when necessary, intercede on your behalf to be sure you have the ultimate experience of this lovely colonial city.

You arrive at a dimly lit street feeling worn out after a long day of travel. You ring the buzzer. To your happy relief, Barb, owner and present Madame of Casa de la Noche, greets you warmly and ushers you into her "establishment", now a friendly, comfortable B & B. Barb then explains the basic workings of the place and ushers you to your room or apartment for a night of much needed rest. The next morning you join your fellow guests for conversation and a delicious breakfast prepared by Barb and her helpful assistant Jovita.

This was my introduction to Casa de la Noche, where I stayed for a wonderful month in San Miguel. Barb was a fount of knowledge of what to see, do, and where to eat in and around San Miguel. Everything in San Miguel is within easy walking distance and Casa de la Noche is just three or four blocks from the city center.

During my one-month visit, I experienced staying in the Jovita and Rosita rooms with full satisfaction. Jovita is a cheery room that receives full morning sun. Rosita is larger and equally nice with a more spacious bathroom and shower.

Barb is active in the local arts community, which is reflected in the interesting, tasteful, and sometimes quirky decorations with which she has decorated all of Casa de la Noche.

As a single traveler, I especially enjoyed the camaraderie during the group breakfasts and the opportunities to exchange travel stories and San Miguel experiences. And breakfasts always included plenty of coffee and many tea selections.

A couple of unique features: Casa de la Noche has a free vonage phone available for guests traveling without their own personal communication means. And the common/dining area has new in-floor heat, a real boon to comfort during those chilly months beginning in December and lasting into February.

Our stay at the Casa de la Noche was delightful. It offers extraordinary value, whether you stay in a room with bath, as we did, or choose a suite. We met a very nice couple who showed us their suite with living room with fireplace, kitchenette, bedroom and bath. The price for a month is so affordable that you almost can´t afford to stay home. It is within easy walking distance of the Jardin. Enjoy a very tasty Mexican or American breakfast, your choice, and meet the other guests. The owner, Barbara, who is an artist, has turned the former bordello into a very tastefully designed B&B. She also supports fellow artists, as is evidenced by their works shown throughout. A wonderful and very affordable place to stay in San Miguel Allende. Ariane & Paul S, Rhode Island 3/2010

Mexican warmth and hospitality starts from the moment the door is opened. Once a bordello, now an amazing guest house. Mexican decore with an American flare, comfort, cleanliness, privacy and yet when you want to mingle with other guests or new found friends you can. Private courtyard niches tucked away or airy shared courtyards, comfortable chairs to curl up in. watch TV, vidoes, read a book or chat with home for free. Conversation with fellow guests over breakfast adds home spirit to the stay. In Casa de la Noche you can let your hair down, take off your shoes and relax after a busy day on the town or back from a tour. If you want to know where to go and what to do or can't find something, both guests and staff are willing to aid and assist. Truly, home away from home. An experience not to be missed. Thank you.

The shuttlebus stopped…our destination…Casa de la Noche in San Miguel de Allende. The wooden door swung open…magical moments of welcoming... Mexican warmth mixed with our Canadian laughter. Barbe, the owner/manager, escorted us to the Madame Suite…stayed and shared glasses of Mexican wine. We learned how to access and lock the door to the street, that the water in the guest house is purified, phone access to USA/Canada and wireless Internet is available and where to go and what to do in San Miguel. Hungry and tired Barbe ordered in a meal of our choice. A tour of the guest-house would follow.

Some places have healing powers and Casa de la Noche is one of them. A feeling of positive energy, calmness, well-being, happiness, a sense of belonging and “there is” time to have another “cup of coffee” before you venture onto the cobblestone streets and a 5-minute walk to the Jardin (the town square…a hub of activity).

Breakfast with the other guests is a great time of sharing. New friendships forged. After you sample the food of San Miguel and meet new friends, explore and take photos, finish class in Spanish/jewelry making/painting or return from one of the many tours, you come home to Casa de la Noche for downtime.

The old bordello is like a sanctuary. Sit in one of the many comfortable sitting room chairs, or in the individual courtyard niches, watch TV (especially the 2010 Olympics--Channel ordered specially for me), read a book or enjoy the fresh flowers and artwork or retire to your room for a comfortable sleep. If your room has a kitchen, you can make yourself a meal so you don't have to go out again or you can order in.

The staff are wonderful and accommodating, true Mexican hospitality. Casa de la Noche is the MUST stay at place in San Miguel. Once is not enough. I’ll be back.

We only stayed here for 1 night but even then we were impressed by the owner Barbara, she is very friendly and does everything she can to help you.
The breakfast was very good as well and it's quiet at night (a miracle being so close to the center).
And if you have a car there is a little parking lot next door.
