Antigua Capilla Bed and Breakfast
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 10 March 2014

This was our second visit to Antigua Capilla, and it remains an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Beautiful, comfortable rooms; gracious, helpful and warm hosts; delicious breakfasts. Fabulous roof-top deck with beautiful views over San Miguel. Great amenities, including free calls to the U.S. Very much looking forward to a third stay!

We stayed for about 2 weeks in San Miguel and enjoyed every minute of our B&B experience. The hosts are from San Francisco and were very helpful with all of our needs and questions. The rooms are well appointed, spacious and comfortable with all amenities such as internet in the room and Apple TV. Wonderful roof top patio with great views to the town. Although it is located at the top of a hill, the walk is about 10 minutes to the Jardin, and when you don't feel like walking the cabs are plentiful and inexpensive. Breakfast was great every day, and there are snacks, drinks and other food items available during the day.

Just wonderful and can't wait to return.

It is hard to add to all the well deserved superlatives from others who have stayed here.....they are all true. Our stay in February was like being invited into a beautiful home with generous hosts who did everything to make our visit to San Miguel a good one. Thank you Antonieta and Francisco. It was marvellous.

Our room was spacious, beautiful , and so comfortable! We were in awe of the attention to detail in decor of the room and common areas. Every space was a work of art. Amazing! Having a phone in the room allowing free calls to U.S. was an added much appreciated bonus. Our hostess and host were hospitable and always helpful, making us feel like this was a home away from home. The breakfasts were wonderful every day and, of course, served beautifully. This was a first class experience in every way. We highly recommend Antigua Capilla!

Room Tip: I don't recall the name of our room. It was larger than some but we know that all rooms were st...

Once again my husband and I made our choice based on Tripadvisor reviews and again we weren’t disappointed!

The house is beautifully appointed with every attention paid to detail! We thought it was a restoration of an old traditional-style house but is actually a newly built home, built around a pretty courtyard in which there is a preserved chapel.

Our room, Mata Ortiz, was very private, extremely spacious, spotlessly clean, with a comfortable bed and lovely fresh white linen. The shower unit was enormous – the biggest we’ve ever seen! The toilet cubicle, however, was small, considering the size of the room and had no light fitting of its own (light filtered in through the opening above the door).

The hosts, a young couple, Antonieta and Francisco were very welcoming and willing to help and provide us with whatever information we needed. We enjoyed chatting to them and fellow travelers over breakfast which consisted of excellent home-made granola, fruit salad and yoghurt followed by a cooked dish, slightly varied each morning - usually an omelette with various vegetable fillings, whole wheat bread and good coffee.

The house is located at the top of a hill with a lovely view of the town and surrounding hills from the roof-top terrace. (It would be nice if lounging chairs were provided to relax in the sunshine). We enjoyed the walk down to the town centre. The climb back may be a little difficult for some guests especially because of the cobble-stoned streets, however, taxis are easily available at any time of the day or night so it’s not a problem.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Antigua Capilla and would highly recommend staying there!

We've all been to places that don't measure up to the pictures seen on line. Antigua Capilla is not that place; the pictures, as impressive as they are, don't do the place justice. Although built only five years ago, the entire property has the charm and feel of the old chapel that was originally on the property and is still in the center of the court yard. The rooms are gorgeous with beautiful architectural detail and excellent amenities such as free phone service to the States and Canada. There's a balcony and a roof top patio with stunning views over all of San Miguel and the sun sets. The breakfasts each day are something to look forward to. The service and cleanliness were impeccable.

Antigua Capella cannot be outdone by any other B&B in San Miguel. We had really comfortable beds and pillows, lovely tile accents in the bathroom and art from Oaxaca around the room. (We had the Oaxaca room.) We, of course, loved the stone wall and candles in the shower!
Francisco was our host and was fantastic, helping us with all our needs.
The breakfast is fantastic. We dined in a large, beautiful dining room, open to the garden and open to the living room, all decorated with Mexican art, tile, pottery, sculpture! Just a feast for the senses!!
The WiFi reception was excellent.
As others have said the patio/garden/inner courtyard is totally beautiful. The Capella is very interesting.
