Stylish & Artsy!
We’ve always stayed at B&Bs in San Miguel but this time we tried Hotel Matilda, which had just opened. It has a style all its own that is completely different from anything else in town. Well located, too, in the center of everything so it was easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go.
The hotel is sleek and modern and filled with art - mostly by Mexican artists. The artsy vibe is probably why the lounge is so popular with the locals. Loved the sliders at the bar, and the guava margaritas. Our room had a really comfortable and luxurious bed, great bathtub and a balcony for watching the gorgeous sunsets over San Miguel. The hotel staff is very friendly but professional at the same time, eager to please. The spa had just opened, was offering limited services but said they were expanding to more treatments soon. I’ve tried a lot of spas but this was the first one with a Turkish hammam. There were some great body treatments like a tres leches scrub. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise – not the usual hotel food. Good mix of updated Mexican and some American fare. We liked eating lunch outdoors on the patio by the infinity pool.
Its fun to walk around the old cobblestone streets but come back to a modern hotel. We’ll definitely be back.
