Hotel Armida is a welcoming oasis on our annual trip down the West Coast of Mexico to the La Paz Ferry. There is secure parking for our Suburban, the rooms are spacious and quiet and there are two restaurants with good food. I can't imagine what happened to the person who thought it was terrible and dirty. There is a lovely pool and garden to look at and good, friendly service. Much more reasonable than other big hotels.

My stayed at the hotel was terribly the room were all dirty and i found all kind of bugs (beatles, crickets, bee) even in the bed, the phone lines were not working properly and at the morning when i left the dirty dishes of my breakfast, at the afternoon when i came back i found them outside the room full of flies and they had already cleaned the room, my comment is that i would never stay there again in my whole life. Service not good, is not clean and you can find all kind of bugs over there. I hated it!!!!

Located in 'downtown" Guaymas this super-clean moderately priced hotel/motel caters to businessmen and, to a lesser degree, tourists. Rooms start at about $55US for economy, which is basic Motel 8 but very clean and perfectly adequate. Two other categories are available, add about $15US per step up, if you want courtyard/poolside or a mini-suite.

Secured parking is provided, wireless internet is available in the main lobby area.

There are two dining facilities, one a 'steak house' and the other standard dining room, both served from the same kitchen. Food was good with a fine variety offered (hint: Guaymas is famous for shrimp). A bar, open all day, shares the steak house room and a second and larger 'sports bar' opens at 5PM.

From the airport, it's about the closest decent hotel..but about 4 miles rather than the advertised 2...and is a $15US van cab ride (up to 6 people) because only 'permitted' cabs can service the airport. I'm told you can walk out to the street and do better but didn't try.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Armida Hotel in early November, 2004. I booked this hotel upon the recommendation of a very good friend who lives in Guaymas. I am providing a very detailed assessment, because I know how important it is to have this type of information, when trying to determine where to stay in an unfamiliar location/destination. I have tried to be as objective and accurate as possible :) :)

The hotel is located near the center of the city of Guaymas, very close to the Guaymas Airport (daily flights to Phoenix, AZ) and many great restaurants, places to shop and the local rental car agency, as well as nearby beaches on the Sea of Cortez, in San Carlos, and the large manufacturing complex in close by Empalme. All major US credit cards are accepted at the Armida.

The hotel is kept up in excellent condition and appearance and it is spotless !! The staff at the front desk are all very friendly and accomodating. There is usually, at least one person on duty, who speaks English. On the afternoon and night shift, there is a young woman on duty who lived in California for several years. She is very sweet/helpful and speaks perfect English. The rooms run the full range from economy to executive deluxe. I am a tall man, so I selected the executive room with the large King bed. The rooms are very spacious, clean, well stocked and well kept. The mexican style tiled floors are very nice. There is a color t.v. clock radio and coffee maker in the room. The bathroom has a hair dryer, a very large vanity and full tub and shower. The room A/C is more than adequate. My room overlooked the large swimming pool and Mexican style courtyard in the center of the hotel, it also had a view of the beautiful low mountain range, which borders the city. The courtyard and pool are very inviting and very nicely landscaped with native trees and plants. It is a very nice place to relax, read, take a nap, eat a meal, or enjoy a cool drink.

The hotel has a very fine Steak House type restaurant for fine dining. This steak house, is very popular with the locals. Also in the hotel, adjacent to the pool and courtyard, there is a typical hotel family restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The service in the restaurants is as about as good as it gets !! The manager greets you in English and seats you and the servers are all very friendly and eager to please. I had several meals and snacks at the hotel restaurant which were all superb !! Try the fresh local shrimp cocktail, with the small, very flavorful, fresh local limes !! On Sunday, a breakfast buffet is served all morning, with live music on the piano. You will have a choice of MANY American and Mexican style breakfast items. Also, the cooks will prepare for you, eggs any style and custom omelettes as you watch. The only orange juice they serve, even with the buffet, is FRESH squeezed from local oranges !! What a treat!! Also, it is very convenient that they accept both US currency and Mexican Pesos, or a mix of both, in the hotel !! The conversion rate is current and fair !!

This a very nice family, vacation, and business hotel. The guests that will share the hotel with you, are all middle to upper middle class families and individuals; moreover, there are also many business people who stay there while conducting business at the large industrial and manufacturing park complex, which is located in nearby Empalme. Further, the city of Guaymas is very clean, safe and inviting !! At all times, I felt very comfortable, very safe and at home during my visit !! I cannot wait to return to Guyamas, and of course, the Armida Hotel !!

Last, the cost for the room and the meals is very, very, reasonable by any American standard !!! This is the perfect, uncrowded, and relaxing place to vacation and walk on a beautiful nearby beach :) :)

Thank you Hotel Armida for making my stay in beautiful Guaymas, so very nice and thank you Raquel, for recommending it to me !!! :) :) *****
