Platt's Farm Camping
Reviewed 26 June 2014

We spent a lovely weekend at Platts Farm camping in the main field in pitch 5. It was very quiet which was what we were looking for. It's a short walk to the shops to buy supplies and the beautiful sandy beach is within easy walking distance.

We used this as a base to explore Anglesey which is only a 20 minute drive away.

I recommend having an open fire by hiring the log burner as toasting marshmallows made my 4 year old very happy.

Room Tip: Choose pitch 5 if you can. It gets the sun for the longest part of the day.

We visited platts farm campsite as a family of four with our two daughters 5 and 9.
The site is easily located and a warm welcome from one of the caretakers as they greeted us. He showed us our plot and asked if we had any questions. Showed us the toilets and shower area and left us to get on with setting up.

The plot's are nicely spacious and you don't feel cramped in. We had plot 11 which was next to the washing up area and showers and seemed the biggest as we had more of a grassy area infront of us than other plots did..due to hardstanding area for cars *no driving allowed on the grass.

We soon set up *in glorious sunshine might I add! And the kids went off to explore. They returned much later all excited that they'd found the chickens and had been around the walled garden and found a den..they where over the moon. Lots of little hiding areas for hide and seek however not much else entertainment wise but thats why we chose the site to bring back childish imagination and take away the "chavyness" and "organised fun" of other sites.

There are however two large sheltered barns with seating and these could easily house a pool table or table tennis something for older kids maybe? But mine where happy.

The showers are clean *2 of them. Probably the cleanest ones ive seen on any site. No outdoor shoes allowed in helps!! Even a bathmat to stand on whilst u dry..a true luxury when camping im sure you'll agree!

Toilets again two of are well maintained the only negative was no towel or handryers so you left with wet hands or used toilet paper which isn't ideal and caused mess. Maybe these would normally be here if owner was on site but he was on holiday according to their website.

The chickens are again a lovely addition to site and I was hoping they would be loose? Not so. Maybe again due to owner not being on site.

Whilst there we only had a few others on site...a few bikers in smaller tents and a couple in the opposite field (we stayed ehu in the coed field) and it was lovely and peaceful. Bikers where not noisy as we anticipated and kept engines off when entering and leaving site after 9pm although our kids where up past that round the fire anyway.

You can hire a firebin and logs and fire starters *kit and also additional logs at £4 a bag. Very reasonable.

Midgies where an issue we found but only on the second night so we just returned to the tent earlier. Not sure why not the first night.

Eggs avail to buy at £1.50 for 6 eggs with an honesty box by reception. Use of a fridge would of been a welcome addition but we had a cool box so not a major issue.

A short walk to shops and a chippy and takeaway and café and a small co-op. Nearest big supermarket asda and aldi in bangor 8 miles away. A short walk to the beach tho not much on the beach and very rocky.

Overall a pretty little site where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would recommend to others x x

Ps. Wild bunnies in the walled garden area...but wear long pants and shoes as tons of stinging nettles in the same area!

Lovely buildings and a great location, handy for local shops, pubs and takeaways, but once your through the gate if seems the picture of private peacefulness. What really sets this place apart is the unforced good nature and helpfulness of the two owners. Thanks for going out of your way with the undercover motorcycle parking guys :-)

Fantastic area and Campsite.
But, if you take your dog be aware that NONE of the Pubs in and around the village allow dogs inside (unlike pubs in the Peak District who welcome the added income dog walkers bring)! So we spent our money at the supermarket and stayed around the tent.

Shame! Because of this we will be looking elsewhere next year. However my score reflects the campsite, not the village.

Room Tip: Great dog walking area, but if you like your beer, go somewhere else.

Hi there
Thank you for your comments about the site and area. It is unfortunate that the pubs do not allow dogs. I will make every effort to feedback to the local pubs and see if we can get any of them to change their policy! If I am successful, I will post the details on here and our website.
Best wishes
Sam

Just got back from spending an amazing weekend at Platts Farm bunkhouse. Really peaceful spot in lovely old farm buildings. You wouldn't know you're near a hospital at all, feels like you're tucked away in some leafy retreat. Owners really friendly and helpful. The bunkhouse was great, basic but had everything you needed and far nicer than a lot of bunkhouses i've stayed in! I'll defintely be back when i can. Cheers again

Stayed here camping with a few friends over 3 days, friendly couple run the site, it was clean and tidy and they helped make a good stay for our group. site was quiet, loved the stream down the edge of the site. chickens ensured fresh eggs and antics to amuse. loved the site would go back.
Locals friendly and colorful, good meals just a short walk away beer good at any of the locals but best at the llanfair arms .

Sorry, we went to check out site having bought new tent. Very basic site, very basic amenities. There is a hospital is next door, consider asking about this, if your still happy then fine. The open areas were ok but not ideal, one family had pretty must taken up one of the areas. We were looking forward to a quite site and that it is but not for us. The camping charge is very reasonable but your not getting much for your money. Sorry I know your looking to make a living but got to be honest and people rely of Trip Advisor for frank reviews, good and bad. Please see other reviews as they appear to have had much better experiance than we did.
