There is not much up here so prices are higher. The room was clean but very basic - no padded chairs but only outdoor style chairs and table, no coffee maker/ fridge etc that you get in most motels. Small concrete deck looking at ocean. Restaurant was as expected with plain but fairly good food and Nova Scotia wine.

We chose this motel because of it's location. It was a fairly typical older motel. The main complaint I had is that the walls are very thin - small children running around two doors down could be heard in our room! We stayed in an ocean view room. Spent some time in the sunshine up on the hill behind the motel looking out over the ocean - a set of chairs is set up for that purpose. Our meal at the adjacent restaurant was quite good.

The location of this hotel is great and the rooms are clean. It is a great place to stay if you plan any whale watching or hiking in the park between Cheticamp and Pleasant Bay. The staff, however could not have been more unfriendly. It was almost kind of comical. We felt like we had arrived on the Cabot Trail at the end of their high tourist season and they we all just finished being helpful and polite which is strange for Canadians who are well known around the world for being nice and polite. (my husband is Canadian and was kind of embarrassed of his countrymen)

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. It's worth it although it seems all of the Cabot Trail is overpriced for wha...

I like to travel in style: camping for me is a 3-star hotel. I understood, though, when booking my vacation in Cape Breton (amazing, by the way), that there would be no 5-star hotels on my trip, and this motel confirmed all my suspicions.
When we arrived, we found that the MidTrail Motel was quite a sight: the buildings are painted baby pink and baby blue, and it truly looks like an out of the way motel (emphasis on motel). Check-in is at the counter in the restaurant, and was not the most pleasant experience I've had: "pay now, here's your key, the restaurant is open till 10", that's it. A little rude...
When we got to our room (large ocean view room with balcony), it was clean, recently renovated, but still only consisted of the very basics: double bed (small for 2 people...) that was uncomfortable, shampoo in a sample pouch... At least there was Wi-Fi: I kept busy because I couldn't sleep. The balcony was a cool option with great views, but there was a truly gross bucket with about 100 cigarette butts in it that hadn't been emptied in forever. At least the place was quiet. And for those staying longer than a couple of nights, there's a practical laundromat. However, it's still a pretty steep price for what you get (we paid $145 for one night).
Although we had planned on staying 2 nights, we hightailed out of there early the next morning and drove all the way through Cabot Trail and down to Truro to find a real hotel with comfortable beds so we could get a good night's sleep and enjoy the rest of our vacation.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor with ocean views. Don't stay too long, sleep quality sucks.

I had the worst sleep of my entire trip at this motel. The scenery was beautiful, the room was clean, and the meal at their restaurant was good. It was unfortunate that the bed was so bad. It was hard as a rock and anytime my husband or I moved in it it creaked so loud it woke the other up. I would have also appreciated a mini fridge in the room. They REALLY need new beds in their room.

Room Tip: Oceanview but better beds.

This is a clean, quiet, comfortable motel at Pleasant Bay, on the northwest perimeter of the Cabot Trail. Our only complaint was it was a little pricey for what we got, however, it was the August tourist season. The motels dining room had some good regional dishes., and the staff were efficient and helpful.
