Description: Michael Caines restaurant, The Coach House by Michael Caines is a culinary experience that will change the way you think about restaurant dining. Located in the majestically landscaped grounds of the Kentisbury Grange Hotel, and surrounded by gently rolling fields, The Coach House by Michael Caines - awarded two AA Rosettes in 2013 - is a masterpiece of contemporary rustic design and innovative yet classic cuisine. This 17th century former coaching house, now a Michael Caines restaurant, boasts a stunning walnut and marble bar as its centrepiece with a glass balustrade oak staircase and handmade artisan furniture helping to complete this elegantly stylish space. The main 50 cover restaurant and bar downstairs has views of the chefs at work lending an element of gastro theatre to the proceedings, whilst upstairs the sumptuous lounge is the perfect setting for pre dinner cocktails or post dinner coffee.

“Over-priced, salty,oily food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

The restaurant is characterised by attentive staff, perhaps over attentive, and a pleasant enough setting, but some of the worst restaurant food I have ever tasted: swimming in oil, salty and over-priced. Presentation valued over basic attention to food quality.

“Top Class”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

Our "landlady" nearby booked us in here as it was within (a slightly hazardous!) walking distance. Have to say her recommendation was spot on and we thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the surroundings. Next time we return to this part of North Devon we will no doubt eat here again, though after the review of May 25th we should perhaps keep our eyes peeled for slipping standards; difficult enough to earn a good reputation as a restaurant but how much harder to keep it.

Hi Murrayfield-on-tour,
Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. We have indeed changed head chef, our new Executive Head Chef Jean-Marc Zanetti was trained by top chef Michael Caines MBE and worked at Gidleigh Park when the hotel gained its two Michelin stars. We are confident that our standards will remain exceedingly high and very much look forward to your next visit.

“Superb fine dining.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

Visited The Coach Hose at Kentisbury Grange following a recommendation from a friend. The approach to the restaurant is something special and you know from that point you are in for a treat. We enjoyed drinks at the bar listening to the peacocks in the grounds. We were then shown to our table by friendly and polite staff. Then the food was served. I can honestly say I have never experienced food like this before, it really was something special and my wife and I cannot wait to go back again. I have always enjoyed watching Masterchef and the like but have never really understood about depth of flavours and the need for jus or froths, until now! What an experience and the chef and his team are nothing short of geniuses in the kitchen. You will not find dining like this around this area and The Coach House really is a jewel in the crown for Devon. We'll done to the KG team.

“Fine Dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2014

Arriving on Friday evening to visit family we were all sat round watching the final of masterchef. Discussing the wonderful creations of Ping, and the 2 guys we were wishing we were having the pleasure that John and Greg had of tasting the food. Well that disappointment did not last because we then had the pleasure of visiting The Coach House Restaurant. The whole experience from the service to the food was wonderful. The presentation of the food and the tastes from the duck, ham and leg starter to the fillet of beef and passion fruit desert were wonderful. It was the case for all our party and the dishes they were served. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and for the romantics going they have several plush booths tables that you may like to reserve when booking. Thanks to all at the Coach House from front staff but especially Thomas Carr and his team for a wonderful experience that North Devon has been longing for!

“Simply the best food i have ever tasted”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014

From the moment we drove through the gates at Kentisbury Grange to get to The Coach House Restaurant we knew there was something special about the place. You drive through beautiful grounds, with lodges spread around as you make your way up to the restaurant.
The staff were very welcoming and it was nice to hear that a lot of the food was locally sourced..........this became apparent as we had our meal. My wife and i both had 3 x courses and i can honestly say that every dish was faultless. Presented beautifully, the staff were outstanding and if you can find a better meal than this.......i would like to know where it is.!!
It goes without saying that i will be returning to The Coach House, excellent experience......you won't be disappointed.
