“Good stay. Wonderful property.”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We use TA to make our hotel selections very regularly, and Cabo was no different. We decided to book with Capella based on the outstanding TA reviews. And because this is such an expensive investment, I will use much more detail than my normal TA review.

Arrival: We opted to use the hotel for pre-arranged transportation, and were very glad we did. You need to avoid any and all people INSIDE the airport who try to talk to you. We were told by 2 different people inside that they were our drivers and we needed to go with them. Neither of which were our drivers. We passed beyond these gentlemen and came outside and immediately found a Capella employee who ushered us to a beautiful Escalade. There was wifi in the vehicle along with water, towels, and snacks. When we arrived on the property, they had margaritas waiting for us.

Check in: Our Personal Assistant gave us a brief tour of the property and then took us to the front desk to receive our keys.

I found it extremely unprofessional that the first thing the front desk agent said to me was to recap the amount I had already billed on my credit card as well as the remaining amount balance. If it is required to recap these numbers, they could do so with discretion as opposed to saying it in front of my guests, as no one should hear the amount the stay costs. A 5 star resort such as this should be MUCH better trained in this department.

We were escorted to our room which was absolutely wonderful. Bottle of tequila, plunge pool, bath tub, huge shower, blue tooth stereo, mini bar with waters and sodas. Excellent room.

As other reviewers state, you receive complimentary chips and guacamole and 2 coronitas each day at 4pm.

Cleaning service was excellent.

We used the spa for 1 massage and it was great. $160 for 1 hour plus 16% tax plus 15% grat = $210.

The pool service was pretty good. We had 3 trips to the pool. One was excellent with the server very attentive. One was very poor... We asked for water 3 times before water was brought to us. It took over an hour for water to arrive. The other was good. 2 of the 3 times, the main pool had no seats to sit in, so we went to the other pool to the left and had no trouble getting chairs.

The food was a big problem for our stay. One lunch, we ordered nachos and quesadillas, and the total was $60+. Neither meal was particularly good. We also ordered a club sandwich and nachos another day... again $60+. The nachos have some value, as they are massive. On our final day, we went to the restaurant and ordered a grilled ham and cheese and steak tacos with water and our bill was $75. This included a $10 charge for water plus 16% tax plus 15% grat = $13.10 for water at lunch. A grilled cheese plus a couple tacos should not equal anywhere near $75. We found the food OFF the property to not only be better in quality, but also much more reasonably priced.

We knew the reviews had said this place was very expensive and we were prepared for that. But some of the charges were just absurd. Water that is free in the room and free at the pool should not cost $13 if you opt to eat inside the restaurant. Not when you are paying $500-$600 per night to stay on the property. 12 oz beers are $6 plus 16% tax plus 15% grat = $7.86. Cocktails are a min of $13 plus 16% tax plus 15% grat = $17. A grilled cheese and tacos should never equal $75, no matter what.

We likely will not stay here again and will opt to try our luck at one of the other luxury properties in Cabo. After our many excellent stays at LeBlanc in Cancun, we have high hopes for the LeBlanc in Cabo in 2015.

I'm a bit late on this review, since I stayed last December, but not many days go by that I don't think about how special my time was at Capella. I had a destination wedding in Cabo and stayed for my honeymoon at Pedregal. They graciously awarded my new bride and I an amazing upgrade at time of check-in to help commemorate the occasion. They were waiting for us with a Margarita and a smile on our arrival. The hotel room was absolutely gorgeous, with three bedrooms, a full living room, gorgeous kitchen, and of course, the infinity pool on the balcony. As gorgeous as Cabo is, its REALLY difficult to leave your hotel room when it is that nice. I loved the nice touch of cold Coronas and Guacamole every afternoon, and the welcome bottle of Tequila. The restaurants on site are fabulous. We ate breakfast at Don Manuel's daily, and I don't have a problem saying this is the best breakfast I've ever had. Be sure to get a massive omelet with just about the best salsa verde you will every find. For dinner, we ate El Farallin (stunning views on the cliffside, very fresh seafood) but my favorite was the special dinner on the beach that you can arrange. Absolutely magical. I don't know how I can ever top that again. Special thanks to GM John Volponi and concierge extrodinairre Ricardo Rico. You are all a class act and I hope to stay with you again in the future. Highly recommended for a honeymoon or just a week in paradise.

Room Tip: there are no bad rooms here.

It is hard to add to the compliments deserved and received from so many reviewers. However, we were fortunate to be at Capella when its annual Food and Wine Festival was on (9-12 July), and it was superbly run. The food in particular was fantastic, but the activities were so well organised that it added greatly to the whole Capella experience. It was certainly one of the outstanding resort experiences we have had (and we have had a lot!). For Aussies like us, although it is a trek, it is worth coming here, especially for the Festival. Cabo San Lucas itself is a bit grungy, but the golf courses are a magnificent option outside Capella for anyone interested in having a romantic golfing holiday, if that is not too hard to get your head around. Don Manuel is also a quality restaurant with gourmet Mexican food and a decent wine list, if you are going when the Festival is not on. The two restaurants outside Capella where we ate were nowhere near as good.

As its name indicates, Capella Pedregal is a "Bright Star" resort. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by an appreciative staff with Capella margaritas. The rooms are big, beautiful and very well arranged. The balcony with your own plunge pool is private and the view of the Pacific is inspiring. The service is outstanding and all the food was excellent. The pool and bar overlooks the beach and the staff provides bottled water in ice buckets in addition to a really good variety of cocktails. I suggest you try the Guava margaritas on the rocks. The SPA is first rate and you should indulge yourself for the day. My wife and I had a terrific time and know that you will as well. Each member of the hotel staff is friendly and grateful you are there. If you are wanting to go in the ocean do not do so here as the shore break waves are huge and powerful. So just enjoy the beauty and sound of the waves from the pool or your balcony. Have a great time at Capella, a truly wonderful resort. We certainly look forward to returning in the near future.

Room Tip: Room 222 was centrally located above the restaurant with a fabulous ocean view.

This resort is a first rate 5 stars resort truely. Immediately when we arrived, there's a private SUV take you dirctly to Capella. Going through the tunnel and arriving with their welcoming and see this amazing place was a great way to start. We booked the Capella Suite, totally worth it. Big room, with everything you want in there, except for the TV is bit small and not HD. Balcony and plunge pool was super nice, watching the wave and nigt time moon light reflect on the ocean surface was so beautiful.

The Food on site is great, almost everything I had were delicious, and better quality than Mexican food in California. Excerpt for the sushi and sashimi I ordered by pool bar was ok and overpriced.

My wife and I both had massages at their Spa, it is one of the best we've been to, and we have been to many five stars one. The dinner at the restaurant there by the cliff was amazing. The setting makes the vibe feel you are in a special place, watching the wave hitting those giant rocks and splash with mist was memorable. The fish were some of the best Ive ever had, specially the snapper & seabass.

Overall, it's rare to find a resort this nice. When we depart at the airport, Capella driver stayed with us the whole time til we checked in and went through custom.

What a wonderful experience we can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Do not choose ground floor room, get a suite.

Outstanding service, beautiful rooms, great food and a wonderful pool / bar. Don't go here to swim in the ocean, the surf is a monster, but if you want to be pampered by an outstanding staff, we did not see a single person frown and everyone was so kind and warm, with an over the top spa this is the place for you. Its pricey (use the American Express Platinum for special offers) but worth every penny. I highly recommend this resort.Believe me you will be HAPPY you went.

Room Tip: Stay on the far left of the property (if you are facing it from the ocean) where things are quieter...
