We went as an RCI exchange to Solmar and were contacted before arriving in regards to room location. With the help of fellow Trip Advisors I was advised to try to change this location for an ocean view. The Solmar desk manager said not to worry that the room we were assigned was only for connecting with the contract and would not be the same room the contract stated. When we arrived we were shown the only two rooms available..the first was on the ground floor with a view of the sand grounds with aloe plants and no view. The second was a one bedroom "penthouse" suite as they call them, corner unit, two bathrooms, double entrance balcony with a stunning ocean view. We were also given the choice of going over to Playa Grande but no guarantee could be made where our room would be. The catch was we had to pay 30$ per night extra for this luxury (a normally 70$ upgrade but they were giving us a deal). We bit the bullet and paid for the upgrade of course. We did not choose All Inclusive as we like to be adventurous and sample the local fare although we did partake in the Mexican Fiesta night and it was very good. The AI would have cost us another 120$ a day for the two of us if we had chosen it.

Please be aware to just breeze through the airport to the OUTSIDE to your taxi, shuttle etc unless you plan to be eaten by timeshare presentation sharks lol This is something I was made aware of but really...I had no idea just how constant this pressure would be. We caved in at the resort to get a few excursions complimentary but if you only have a few days in Cabo just say no. Two days at 3 hours each was a lot of time out of our holiday but we did enjoy the whale watching ( breakfast included), back massage at Villa Arco and glass bottom taxi to Lover's Beach :)

The Solmar resort itself is lovely, small and quaint which is what we like when we travel to timeshare locations. These reasons are why we turned down the room at Play Grande..a bit too big for us. The room was cleaned daily and everyone is friendly and accommodating. Please take not if you drink the bottled water in the room they provide you will be charged. There is lots of availability for seating at the pool, the beach and the restaurants. There is a little construction noise in the background but it didn't bother us. It is a short 10-15 minute walk into the marina to shop, eat, hire charters or water taxis. All of these things are constantly offered to you by each local you pass so buff up on your "No Gracias"! We actually saw a guy with a T-shirt that said "no gracias" on the front and on the back in Spanish it said "I said No already!" Lol
It is very safe to eat and drink most everywhere but I always give my husband and myself a "Pepto Bismol" tablet every morning on all our vacations to coat the tummy so nothing sticks to make you runny! ;)

We had a lovely vacation at Solmar and hope to return again some day to see all the completed construction. Thank you to all the staff and to all the fellow Trip Advisor travellers who gave sound advise before our holiday!

One last note which can't be stressed enough... Please be aware of the strength of the sea's waves. The Pacific will show no mercy if you test her. Be safe and enjoy your Solmar Experience as we did :)

I ended up at Solmar by purchasing a voucher on Living Social, at a price too good to be true, so I was really nervous that Solmar would be a dump.
This was my 6th trip to Mexico and my 5 nights at Solmar are some of the most memorable, I would love to go back. Solmar is a comfortable and unpretentious resort, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had an end unit with 2 balconies with an ocean view, a king size bed, 2 bathrooms a full kitchen.
For just 2 of us it was huge. The decor was old Mexico with gorgeous tile on the floors and counters. The dolphin headboard was a little cheesey, but this was a beach resort afterall. It was our 10th anniversary and Gloria had the bed made with 'I love you' in rice, it was so cute and unexpected. We ate most of our meals at the resort and I never had something that wasn't delicious. There's a little sports bar that had fried fresh fish, at the pool I had perfectly prepared sushi, and the food in the dining room beautifully presented. Jose was one of our favorite waiters. Jesus at the pool, kept the snacks and drinks coming. On our last night there was a little fiesta with singing, dancing and a Mexican buffet. It was our anniversary night and our waiter Daniel surprised us with a bottle of champagne. There was so much, I asked him to pour some for all the other fiesta guests. It was a fun and memorable night. If I had to think of one negative, it's that this resort is on the Pacific ocean, and there is no swimming allowed. The beach is very clean, and vendors aren't allowed, so that almost makes up for it. If you're looking for relaxing trip, Solmar is the place to go.

Husband and I chose this resort to celebrate our 20th anniversary and first visit to Cabo for its location…quiet beach (no vendors), access to Lands End, and walkability to marina and downtown. It did not disappoint on all counts!

We had a room location issue when we arrived on a Sunday that was resolved the following morning when management honored our request to be moved closer to the beach. Our reservation was made about one month prior by calling the 800 # on Solmar’s website and after much discussion with the reservationist about rooms with best locations/views, it was mutually decided that the one bedroom unit would have the closest location and best views of the ocean/beach, but alas this is not the case. The first one bedroom we were given upon arrival was in the furthest building back and although it had a sliver view of the ocean, was not worth, in our opinion, the price we paid. The second one bedroom was definitely closer to the beach and the pool/restaurant and had a better ocean view. Both one bedrooms had a junior suite attached to it with an adjoining door. Another couple we met while at Solmar had a junior suite in the building next to ours that also overlooked the pool and ocean, so unless you need a large one bedroom (with two bathrooms) that could easily be shared with another couple or a couple of kids, a junior suite would most likely work for location/views as well. However, not all units have direct views of the ocean with most buildings only being 2-3 stories high.

We have stayed at all-inclusive resorts before and taken cruises (which we consider all-inclusive) and Solmar’s food was top notch! We ate at the Tejaban restaurant for breakfast each morning, dinner two of our five nights in Cabo, had sushi several times during the week while sitting on the beach or by the pool, and all the food was delicious, flavorful, and plentiful! A wonderful surprise was the option to eat at neighboring Playa Grande’s restaurant Puerto San Lucas as part of our all-inclusive. DO NOT MISS THIS! Atmosphere is upscale, yet casual attire is welcome, and the food is superb! The menu is a bit more limited (and the steak/lobster is not included but offered at a 40% discount). We so enjoyed our meal of sea bass and parrotfish (catch of the day) one night that we went back the following evening to have Italian…the homemade cannelloni filled with spinach ricotta was divine while the vodka-sauce penne was flavorful. We ordered the Cesar salad that is prepared fresh tableside…wonderful! The quick walk (or a shuttle is available) is worth the treat!

We did take advantage of using Grand Solmar’s beautiful infinity pools one afternoon and enjoyed the unobscured ocean views and relaxing atmosphere. Although bar drinks are not included, there is a “Happy Hour” in the afternoon and soaking in an infinity pool while overlooking the Pacific Ocean (and whales) is worth buying a $10 pina colada and getting one free that are freshly prepared, not poured from a Slurpee machine. However, there was no easy access to Grand Solmar unless we went up to the top of the resort and walked over, or walked down to the beach and walked over/back up. And it appears by the construction that access is only going to get more difficult.

Speaking of construction, yes, they are erecting a new building at Grand Solmar right next to Solmar so there is construction noise. Is it disruptive? Depends on your room location, the day, and one’s tolerance. Construction usually started around 7 am with light noise and sometimes was just hammering and pounding or the large crane moving around rebar or sand, but one day, the pile driving could even be heard down on the beach. Was this a deal breaker for us? Probably not, but I heard one “owner” complaining at the front desk that if she had known about the construction she would not have visited. There are some rooms that are right next to the construction so I could see this would be a concern if staying in one of those. Most days construction ended by dinner time. Overall, the property is very quiet in the evening (we stayed Sun-Friday).

The property is older (was told 30 years old by an owner I met) but well maintained. We had a finicky screen door but the linens are fresh, beds comfortable, coffee and amenities provided just fine. Would we stay here again? Very likely, although there are a few resorts down the beach that looked enticing…and pricier! LOL We’re sold on Solmar All Inclusive's easy access to the marina/town (10-15 minute walk) and beautiful beach that features great waves, plenty of whale sightings in winter (will bring binoculars next time), lots of stress-free walking or sunning, and beautiful sunsets!

You can see gorgeous sunsets from the beach, (you cannot swim at the beach on the pacific side of the ocean because it is dangerous) but you can whale watch all day long from the sand or by the pool! The rooms are nice with large bathrooms. The food is great! No buffets everything cooked fresh to order! Sushi bar included! You do have to sign for things you've ordered even if you are all inclusive, but really it's no big deal! It was a great way to see how much you would've spent if you were not all inclusive! The staff is AMAZING, especially Vincente (poolside server) Daniel (evening restaurant server) and patty (activities)!! There are even fire pits on the beach! It is a great place for all ages!!!! Our group of 6 had a fantastic time!!

The service from the moment we walked in to the reception area, to check out was outstanding. Christina even printed our boarding passes for us as we checked out, she is so sweet! It is clear that the staff are very happy as their excellent service shines through! In previous reviews, other guests suggested to request rooms near the lower pool. Upon arrival they did not have any open rooms down below. The Front Desk Manager apologized and said they would be happy to move us to the lower room the following day, she offered to have them move our bags for us as well. After we went to our room, and walked around the property we decided that our rooms were just fine. It was a bit of a walk, but after all of the food and beverages it felt good to get some exercise.

The property is older but very well maintained and has a nice feel to it. It is not fancy with a huge lobby and marble everywhere like many of the other resorts in the area. Instead it is modest with aloe and cacti gardens, stone walkways, nice lighting and very clean. The room was comfortable, nice linens, comfortable bed, beach towels; the kitchen was well equipped with dishes, coffee pot, refrigerator and a nice spot to sit. In the bedroom area, there was a comfortable couch, chair and tables and a wall of windows looking over the upper pool and ocean. The bathroom had cool old tiles with terracotta grout, very charming.

We booked directly with the hotel and got a wonderful all inclusive price of $210. Per room, per night. (800) 344 3349 .The food was very good, the service wonderful. They did require that you sign a receipt for each sitting, I understood that this is to keep track and to insure that only all-inclusive members are partaking, and that you are not treating other guests to the all-inclusive benefits, a small inconvenience really. The main restaurant served a nice breakfast menu as well as a self-serve array of fresh fruits, fresh squeezed juices, yogurt, granola and cereal. They also gladly serve coffee, tea, mimosas and other morning cocktails that are always fun to drink on vacation. We ordered lunch at the pool most days, including AWESOME fresh sushi made and served up by Octavia. Raul who works in the main restaurant was always helpful and very pleasant too. Dinners we pleasant decent wine, a nice variety on the menu, a self-serve salad and soup bar. We were only there for 3 nights, and never repeated a menu item. The fish was excellent, chicken and beef tender, the salads and vegetables fresh and the presentation was nice as well.

We visited their Spa, they were running a special on massage which my friend enjoyed, and I treated myself to a pedicure. There is something to be said for getting pampered while gazing out to the beautiful ocean. The staff in the spa was very friendly and professional.

The resort is located away from the hustle and bustle of the main beach resorts, which was just fine with us! It was a nice short walk to the marina and town again was welcome after lying around eating and drinking all day. Or you can take a cab for a $5, be sure to ask “how much” before getting in, if it is much more than that, tell them “no thanks” and they will lower their price.
The guys booked a fishing trip and caught a nice marlin, as well as numerous Dorado. The day they went fishing we took a cab out to the other resorts and walked back along the beach. This was fun, but really made us appreciate our quiet beach, free of vendors and throngs of other tourists.
The beach in front of the Solmar is like being on a private beach, very serene and beautiful. The resort provides nice shady palapas if you want to duck out of the sun and lounge chairs that can be moved into the sun and closer to the water if you wish.

We took a water taxi out to Lover’s beach and the Arches that was fun, but be sure to negotiate your price. We only took a limited amount of $ with us, and after shopping, and dining out we ran short. He wanted $20, for two of us, I was honest and told him I only had $18 left, and that would have to include the tip, he went for it. That is a must, to go get close to the arches, see the sea lions, and view the fish from the glass bottom boat.

We will definitely be back again! It was a wonderful spot to relax next time we will stay longer than 3 nights.

Room Tip: Our room was in an upper building, a little bit of a walk, but quiet and a lovely ocean view!
