“A Great Vacation”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

This was our first time to Cabo and we'd come back to the Solmar. We really liked this quiet resort. The food was good but could use a little more variety on the menu especially if you stay for a week.

This was the first time we have ever went to Mexico and we were more than pleased with the solmar! Upon arrival we got a upgrade to a penthouse suite, the rooms were large, beds comfortable, and service was unbeatable!
We spent most of our time walking around the town (which is about a 5-10 min walk from the hotel) and laying by the pool. All of the servers were great, and we just had a fabulous time drinking, eating (all their food was delicious!) and visiting with other guests. We will def be back!

Just have to write to tell everyone how fantastic our vacation was/is again here at Solmar. I cannot say enough about the Solmar. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were special. Nicte-Xa de la Torre goes way beyond any expectation. She doesn't have "No, sorry can't do" in her vocabulary. She is so fantastic. The staff here from our wonderful housekeeper Zusana, to our dining staff, Tomas who sees to making sure we get what we need, beautiful Nancy, who always finds you the perfect seat for all our meals, amazing waiters, Jose Louis, Alejandro, Samuel, Daniel, Alsandro and Diego who brings our food, piping hot always smiling and singing and so many others. We still have a few more days here and I will miss the wonderful feeling here. So recommend for a wonderful time come to Solmar. The beach area is beautiful but not swimming in the water due to undertow, highly dangerous to go in but beautiful to look at. This is truly the Land's End so very private. My husband loves to fish and we come when it is not great fishing season, but always fun to try. We love the marina area and walk it daily and go into the town as well. Love mingling with the locals. The people here are very gracious. We have been coming here since 2005 and even though we have looked elsewhere, we always seem to return here.

Room Tip: All the rooms have great views. The rooms up on the east end are a bit quieter than ones lower next...

We stayed at the Solmar even though we're not crazy about all-inclusives because of too many parties and mediocre buffets. This was a pleasant surprise. The staff is friendly and helpful. the food is not on a buffet except for the one night that was Mexican night. The pool by our room was quiet and inviting. Our room was near the back of the resort so it was close to town. We had a great week and plan to come again.

Overall happy with this resort. Breakfast and lunch as well as the grill and sushi at the pool bar awesome. Dinner was not as great. The one hassle was the all inclusive but nothing allowed to be brought to the room philosophy. You have to get your drinks at the bar then place it in your room. So we became bottled water hoarders. Also you have to sign for anything you get which became tiring.
My better half does not even drink and I am more beer and wine so we ended up at the mini mart several times, tired of begging. Beach was beautiful we were close to the marina which we loved. Do not recommend booking your fishing trip through the resort, costs more and captain and deckhand put forth minimal effort no fish caught on an 8 hour trip. We had much better luck booking through a salesman at the marina caught 4 Marlin! Our room was awesome 2364 great view and very quiet.

Room Tip: Do not get a room on ground level. Cannot see the ocean. We had a third floor no elevator but wort...

First the PROS: We loved the 'old Mexican' feel to the hotel, the old tiles and wood. It is very clean and 9 out of 10 staff are very helpful. Having colon problems, my concerns were nullified. The water is purified and one can eat all foods. The setting is along the pacific and most rooms have an ocean view (though you can't swim here). The prices were fair for this resort, while the high-end Grand Solmar costs considerably more. While the menu has limited choices, they do have some excellent ones (i.e. the Lasagna, their sushi/sashimi, a great tender leave salad, a lot of the breakfast options except stay away from the bagel with lox - the bagel is not a real bagel and the lox is two minute sections, and a nice vegetable juice for those of you who like it as we do). The kitchen area provides you will everything you might need, should you want to go on your own food/drink wise.
For the CONS: Construction noise is still an issue but probably will end within a few months. We both have allergies to down/feathers and when requesting different pillows, were told that there were none (we made do with some pillows without down from the couch). The 'adult' pool is not really one. When asking the waiter how come children are playing here, he just shrugged his shoulders. People were served drinks when obviously intoxicated and were yelling in the public areas most of the day until after the official 10PM pool closing time (when calling the front desk however, they were asked to leave and did so). We are tea drinkers and only on 3 out of the 7 breakfasts could we get black tea (we were told they would not give you tea bags in your room in lieu of coffee) so bring your own. The domestic bar is limited if you want other then the local beer, unless you are willing to pay premium prices. The beach area by the ocean under the six umbrella areas is not cleaned or maintained (maybe because it's used by whoever walks the beach), which is a shame. It provides a quieter place when the drunks are shouting about.
Conclusion: Probably won't be back to this hotel

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the construction. Can't really get away from the pool noise. The H, I, J bui...

My wife and I traded into this resort with our timeshare and stayed for a week. I must say that the staff was superb and the view of the pacific was to die for. The food was excellent and the drinks were delicious and not too badly priced for a high-end resort. We decided "what the hell" and we sat in for the timeshare presentation and it was 3 hours of high-pressure sales tactics which I expected but wanted to get the whole jist of what they have going on at this place. The rooms have great views and the pools are really well-done. If I could trade in timeshare and stay here again I would definitely do it. You can walk init town from the hotel which is nice, but it is far far from the airport so plan on paying a bit for a taxi or just renting a car... no big deal.
