The Mar de Cortez was exactly what we were looking for -- safe, friendly, affordable. We had a family reunion there, with 27 people ranging in age from 6 to 68. Most of the family came to us sometime during the stay to say that they thought the hotel was exceptional. The staff was especially helpful and gave us very personal care. At one point when we were worried about some of our group arriving from snowed-in Denver , Danny from the desk made a special trip to our room to let us know we had a call, then recognized us in the lobby when we came back from the beach, and assisted us in making the call back.
The staff overall was excellent and we had no language barriers, the rooms were clean (cleaner than most US hotels where the bed linens and towels are not changed every day) and spacious. The hotel restaurant had excellent food, although our group of 27 stretched its capacity when we all ate at once. Breakfast is a bargain and well done. There are restaurants and clubs close and many other services.
Guests should lock their rooms (you would expect that to be a no-brainer but one of our party did not and lost $80 and a credit card), There are no TVs or phones in the rooms, which we knew in advance and which was no problem for us.
