“Enjoyable stay in Cabo San Lucas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

I enjoyed staying at this small hotel and the feeling of being part of the family :) There is a charming and cozy courtyard with common kitchen and a magical rooftop palapa with library and cold soak pool. The staff are very helpful about activities, restaurants and culture. The maid service is attentive and helpful always. It is conveniently located near many good restaurants, the bus routes and a variety of markets and stores. :) --Sheri, Los Angeles

Room Tip: Diego Rivera room was wonderful!

Hotel needs to provide better towels, all of their towels are stained and are from different hotels. Shower drains need to be cleaned. They seem to have mold. Shower curtains need to be replaced and perhaps a better shower head.

The other reviews, especially the positive ones are accurate and give a good idea of what to expect when staying at the Cabo Inn Hotel. Even some of the negative reviews have some truth to them but are not as bad as lead to believe.

I must say though that I am somewhat biased in my opinion, this is the only place in Cabo San Lucas I have stayed at ever since I first vacationed here several years ago. When it feels right why change? (review posted 01-14, different topics)

This time was for a short 8 night solo stay over Semana Santa (Easter Week), it is a very popular Mexican holy-week. I did this trip at the last minute and was unable to stay at the Cabo Inn Hotel for my entire 15 night vacation so the last 7 nights I spent at the 4 star Hyatt Place in San Jose (review posted), great upscale hotel with excellent ocean view and a cheap seasonal promo rate but unfortunately it's not how I like to vacation. FYI, if you don't want the Cabo Inn family style environment then you'll love this place, totally opposite.

Just my opinion....
First off the town of Cabo is full of action, morning, noon, night and after mid-night. Basically the town is going 24/7.
For the most part people are here to vacation and have fun even though I did notice this time that several guests were here for extensive dental work and decided to make the best of it by doing it in Cabo, a great idea. I understand that Mexican dental work is good and very reasonably priced and there are several different dental offices within a few blocks of the hotel.

The Cabo Inn Hotel tries to accommodate everybody and as such has a few house rules...

1) 10PM quiet time.
Many guest's will enjoy an extended happy hour in the evening at the downstairs community table or upstairs in the lounge area. This is a "come as you are" social event where you will meet people with varying levels of social skills and I find it's always fun and entertaining.
Around 10PM the main lights go off in the common areas and rope lights will illuminate from the second floor railings. This is the cue to take the party into town. FYI, several of the hot clubs downtown don't even open until 10PM and they all will party till 4 or 5 AM. Peak party time for Cabo clubbing is 12AM to 1AM.

2) No guest's in room.
Guest's are allowed in common area's until 10PM, but to help insure for the safety and security of all other guest's they do not allow you to bring a "friend" from the club back to your room. I found that girls are the worst at following this rule.

3) Do not lose keys.
They ask for a five dollar key deposit to help insure keys are returned. The front door is closed at 10PM and you need your key to get out and back in. A second key is for your room. FYI, if staying for several days or more it is common to give your five dollar key deposit to the maids (I do ten dollars a week), they do a lot and would very much appreciate it.

4) Do your own dishes.
The community kitchen area has a refrigerator, propane cook top stove, microwave oven and is well stocked with plates, utensils and cookware. Many guest's will make use of this and cook a simple meal, the issue is the clean up. Please don't leave a mess behind. The maids and office staff are not responsible for cleaning up after meals.

5) Towels and bedding
They ask that you do not use hotel bath towels for cleaning your shoes or wiping off make-up. Permanently stained towels or bedding will need to be replaced and they may ask that you pay for it. FYI, Beach towels are available for sale down the block.

6) No Time Share Sales (My addition)
If you do get caught up in all the hype of Time Share ownership please do not try to sell it on other guest's.

That's about it for house rules that I recall, here are a few other things to consider...
a) Many rooms have a refrigerator. They just brought in several new units while I was there so maybe more rooms now have.
b) Many rooms have a small TV, a room on second floor has a large plasma. Several rooms do not have any TV.
c) Getting a refrigerator AND a TV in the same room may require advance notice.
d) Ceiling fans and open door/window are best bet to keep room temperature comfortable. A/C is available in all rooms but has drawbacks.
e) Cabo Inn Hotel can be very active and social. "Joining in" can be fun and educational.
f) The center inside area of the Cabo Inn Hotel is like a three story open air atrium. All rooms open to the inside atrium area. TV, community kitchen and 6 chair table on first floor. Stairs in back go up to 2nd floor catwalks and third floor palapa's and lounge area.
g) Due to the open air nature of the Cabo Inn Hotel there is a noise issue sometimes. The hotel is close to downtown so there is noise from the clubs at night and from pedestrians and vehicle traffic from the street in front of the hotel. Usually it's not noticeable when in your room.

The Cabo Inn Hotel does have some issues but that is part of the attraction.

I come to Cabo for the fun and sun and staying here I meet others doing the same.
If you enjoy a local flair and traditional Mexican values then Cabo Inn Hotel is the place to stay.

We supposed to rent a regular room in the hotel but we were offered to rent a palapa witch is at the top of the hotel and it was just very relaxing and romantic with a nice terrace and i am happy we were offered this palapa because normal rooms are clean and good but not like to spend more time during the day but the night there, even though it is a good place to stay in, you find lost of friendly people

Room Tip: the Palapa it is a little more expensive than a regular room but it worths it by far!

Inn was just to are liking. Like having a room off your patio. Rooms are small, but atmosphere makes up for it. Shared space environment, meeting and enjoying other quest. Bed was new memory foam, just like at home.

I came here with 3 friends for spring break. We are not the fancy-hotel type, and Cabo Inn was perfect for our long weekend. It has a homey, hostel feel, but is nicer than that, with more privacy, security, and great staff. The rooms aren't mind-blowing, but they have everything you need. There's a great shared kitchen, an awesome patio, lounge, and pool/tub upstairs on the rooftop deck, and it's very close to everything. Very comfortable, relaxing, casual, and a great experience.

I liked the idea of this inn and the photos made it look very charming. I didn't enjoy staying here. I feel bad writing this because the staff are great and it's family run. The room I initially booked was not available so I did get to choose another. I had the top room facing the street. It was very noisy all the time. Next door is a bar so loud pounding music plus they BBQ there so my room had lots of smoke coming in. The good thing is the location. This place is close to all that is Cabo. Few blocks from the beach, tons of eateries of all prices nearby (check Trapper's List), close to flea markets and the Marina is 2 blocks south. Public transportation is nearby so get on the bus for 30 pesos and head to San Jose for the day.
