“Can't wait to go back!”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

My husband and I went to Cabo and stayed at the Sirena Del Mar for our 15 year anniversary back in October. The rooms were REALLY clean and love the upgrades of granite countertops. We had an amazing view out our master bedroom. Every room has an oceanfront view. I liked being outside of town as we weren't too far. You can go across the street to the little market or go to Costco and stock up on food for the week. Loved the main pool and the pool with the hot tub.Never had to fight for a chair. At times we felt we had the resort to ourselves.

The hotel offers scuba gear although we did not use it. They also offered a shuttle service to and from the airport that the concierge booked for us so it was one less thing we had to think about. We did the timeshare sales but it was no pressure as they knew we were owners somewhere else.

We are timeshare owners but not Welk owners. Can't wait to go back!

Nice property. Excellent views. Clean rooms. Fun pools. Always an open lounger by the pool. Which was nice. At some resorts it seems like there is a towel on every chair and not a person on one! The pools and beach make this place. The rest is not something I would go back for to be honest.

Quite a long way from the main road, so getting to any sort of inexpensive bus transportation is pretty much out of the question. For my family while on vacation anyway...and anyone who is not fully capable of walking long distance up hill in extreme weather on a bumpy road.

The views are great. The rooms are nice and equipped with what you will need to get by. I would not cook a full meal in these rooms, but maybe some people do. Room on the small side in my opinion. Yes, you will have what you need but if you have 2 kids with you it will be very tight. We had one bedroom ocean front room. Kids on pull out. View was beautiful for sure!

The infinity pool was great. Warm with a swim up bar. Not impressed with the on sight restaurant. The dining/drinking here was not up to par. The swim up bar closed in the afternoon when there were still plenty of people swimming and lounging by the pool. Odd.

There was an apartment complex feel to the lay out of the entire place. There were two little areas where one could eat (other than outdoor restaurant, which was really just a bunch of tables in an area...I have no idea how far the poor server had to travel with the food) and they had the vibe of neighbors eating at a shared apartment outdoor space.

I was not impressed with the food at the restaurant. We had lunch there once. It was way overpriced (which resorts tend to be, I know that) and just not good. Not awful, but not good. So, we ended up paying around 20 USD each way to get into and out of Cabo everyday. Note: There is a superb, high end Italian restaruant 10 min. walk by beach called Sunset da Mona Lisa. We went there 3 nights in a row. The jalapeno margarita was superb!

The strangest thing about this resort is that at check in they inform you (in a very rude mannner, it was crazy, my husband was livid) that your room will not be cleaned unless you are willing to pay 12 USD per day. Okay, it's not a lot of money, it's the principle. It really is. There was nothing in writing anywhere in our paperwork / reservation information that stated this. When my husband mentioned this to the manager he said to prove it by forwarding him all emails regarding booking from Hotels.com . He was rude. I don't know how else to put it. My husband was shocked. Bottom line, we ended up paying the 12 USD even after forwarding the email.

It's customer service issues like this that turn people off. Management should realize this! There is plenty of competition out there and for a resort to treat guests rudely is simply put...stupid. My husband actually said to me that it was the worst he had ever been treated and we tend to travel quite a bit. He did not like being told to forward proof! Bad move on the part of the guy at check in.

Also, there is a new building under construction on the property. It was noisy. It woke the kids up each morning because they were not ocean front. We did not hear it. So, be aware and question where your room will be in regards to this. They will tell you "nobody has ever complained about the noise". But, you will hear tile saws, etc. early in the morning and throughout the day if you are not on the balcony of your room facing the ocean. Did not bother us in the bedroom. Bothered kids on pull out.

Although the views are great and the beach below was super fun for the kids we will not stay here again simply because of the way the 12 USD for cleaning was presented to up upon arrival. We will also not recommend it to friends unfortunately either.

But, now that you are aware of the issues...if you are okay with them, you will love the beach and the pools. Almost forgot...gym was nice. Has everything you will need and very clean.

Room Tip: Stay away from the new construction building if possible. Also, if you are bringing kids any older t...

We spent about a week in this resort in mid June this year. We are not time share owner, booked the hotel directly from Hotels.com. I understand this is one the top 5 highly reviewed resort in Cabo in tripadvisor but here is my take based on our stay why we think the resort is pretty average: In short here is the summary:

Pros: Just awesome view from each room and pretty much any place in the resort. The view of ocean, the arch and everything is just spectacular, picture like , colorful ..just awesome. Rooms are nice fair sized. The full kitchen with all equipment, full size fridge, washer dryer, dish washer, blender toaster, microwave is all in very good shape and very usable right from the beginning of your stay (if you are planning to use them ) The buildings are made for time share so kind of looks like apartment complex rather than hotel. The patio is very nice, big good for suit and relax and look at the sparkling sea of Cortez and the small private beach that is just below the cliff. The best part of the resort is ofcource the infinity pool and the very nice bbq area and ramada. The pool is just awesome, clear blue perfect worm water, great view of the arch , nice sitting music, swim up bar. This is where one will end up spending 70 % of their time (rest should be on the private beach) if decided to stay inside the resort for the day. The pool is open 24 hours. The hot tub area is also very nice and big.

Cons: The resort must make some adjustment to its current process and amenities to make me go back a 2nd time and here is why:

1. The resort is located away from cabo downtown, that means you must have a rental car to go pretty much every where (unless completely stay inside the resort which can be very very expensive. The taxi ride from resort to cabo downtown where all happenings are will cost around 20 USD one way (its a 10 to 15 min cab ride not sure why the rate is so high). So each time going to town will cost 40 USD. There is a local bus option which is just 1 USD each way per person but the catch is in order to get to the bus one has to make a terrible 1 mile very uphill walk from resort to the highway. The road Is narrow , there is no sidewalk and cars / cabs in Mexico drives in a crazy speed in these local roads... so the walk from resort to highway to get a bus is not pleasant at all special in summer where it is 90 degree F with high humidity, at the end of the walk one will be tired and sweaty as hell. The same bus will take you down to resort from downtown but one has to make the downhill walk to resort from highway and again at night wit no street line in that crazy road...well good luck. so I don't recommend walking down at night but day time walk is OK if weather is good and you will save a lot compared to taking a cab to town. - So this is where I would think the resort can make a big difference if they have their own complimentary shuttle service to town (running once in 2 to 4 hours preferably each hour from the mall to resort) . I understand why the resort does not want to help or encourage the guest to easily go to town , they want the guest to always stay in resort so they spend money on the extremely expensive resort restaurant food :).

2. The resort has only one restaurant open till 9 PM only.. the food is tasty but it is really expensive, in fact I was really shocked finding the price of any food or drinks any place of the resort to be that expensive...its more than US price for similar stuff... a small strawberry smoothie will cost you about 8USD plus tips, (resort adds 16% random tax on top of any food item listed in the menu...its just crazy...the cheapest menu item ..a 3 taco plate..(the smallest taco size I have ever seen) will cost one around 15USD plus tips just as an example ! So unless you pay 40 dollar cab ride every time for luck or dinner , you have to pay that amount for each meal at the resort.... The other alternate is to buy your grocery and prepare your meal which is actually pretty good and 90% of the people in the resort do it I think based on my observation.... To buy grocery again one has to take 12 USD each way cab ride to Walmart (near Sam's club complex) or take the same bus that goes to town and get off at Sam's club (same cost 1 USD each way..) You can stock up the fridge with food and drinks and just prepare your meal at the BBQ grill area or in the room... Again this is the reason I think if the resort adds a private complimentary shuttle service for the hotel guest from resort to downtown that will solve all the issues above

3. The resort will charge you daily cleaning service which I thought is just absurd...they will not even give you coffee, soap shampoo fresh towel on a daily basis unless one asks for it and then they will give you those items but cleaning of the room, making the bed everyday, clean bathroom shower area , take away the trash ... well you have to pay each day another 12 USD..i have never stayed in a resort anywhere in the world that does not have this minimum service. This is really bad...

3.each room has 2 advertised flat screen TV but the TV screen size is too small and there is no HD channel.. its hard to see ...this can be easily improved..

4. The pool has a swim up bar very nice, (expensive) but the bar closes at 5 PM! This is another crazy timing.. so after 5 PM if you need to get a drink, options are go the other bar away from the pool or to the restaurant ...

5 The lobby has small market place but again the price is just double .. 6 pack beer will cost exactly 2 times than the same 6 packs from Walmart

Overall the resort has a great view, staffs are OK, but its location in the middle of no where without any practical easy transportation option (other than rental car or expensive taxi) and too expensive food pricing, no daily maid service all these cons will not make me go back to this place . This is also why I disagree that this place is voted as the top 5 best resort in Cabo... sorry no way according to my observation

Room Tip: Must ask for a room on the building 3 and first floor like 3108 or 3106 (near the beach, away from t...

Located just 5 minutes from downtown Cabo, this resort is perfectly located. The staff was so friendly and room was fabulous. Master bedroom was right by the ocean so we slept hearing the ocean waves all night! You can ask for beach chairs and an umbrella to take down to the private beach. Can't really swim there but the snorkeling is excellent. They also have snorkel gear you can borrow. The pool area was awesome. Great infinity pools and an amazing view of The Arch. They had a lot of fun activities going on all the time. Great pool party and Mexican Fiesta night. Pool drinks were expensive so we purchased plastic cups and made our own drinks to take down to the pool. There is also an on site restaurant. Very good but pricey. We rented a car but they said in a year or two, they would have their own shuttle to take guests wherever they wanted to go. Make sure you get a massage! It takes place in a private cabana, right on the cliff edge and she was amazing! We fell in love with the location and resort. We will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms face the ocean. There is 1 building with a garden view only. The studio has a bal...

First time here, absolutely incredible staff! Usual hiccups of checking in, mostly due to my impatience, but management went above what was necessary. Great location, close enough for a short taxi ride to main cities, but far enough to not have to deal with the nightlife... Activities for the family, great views. Not really able yo explain how pristine the grounds were kept while here.. We look forward to a return trip

We visited this resort for the first time after the property became a Welks Property. We used to come here for years when it was the Calinda and was sad to see Calinda hotel get destroyed but was very happy after our stay that it became a Welks resort. The location is amazing, nice staff and it's reasonable price. Reading the other reviews we were prepared to get a heavy sales pitch on the time share, (we were dreading that part since it always starts off our vacation wrong) however they asked once if we wanted to sit thorough the 90 min presentation to receive $200 credit towards various activities, we declined and that was it. Shocking....that alone, I will for sure come back to this hotel.

We got a one bedroom ocean view room, full kitchen. New nice rooms. There is only one restaurant there so unless you go to costco or Walmart to buy food to cook you will want to go off site.

Infinity pool overlooks the famous arch, with a swim up bar. It's beautiful.

There is a small beach, the stairs up and down is brutal since there are many many steps, however worth the walk to get to a calm cove, perfect for my 5 year old daughter to swim, boogie board and feed the fish. Make sure to borrow chairs at the front desk.

We enjoyed our vacation, great boutique hotel for families with small children. The only bummer is that checkout is at 10am. That's early for any hotel. I begged to get a late checkout and even asked if we can pay for a half day since our flight wasn't until 5pm but they couldn't accommodate since they were sold out, which is hard to believe since the entire property the whole time we were here was not even half full.

We will for sure come back again.
