“Amazing Resort - Fantastic Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2013

The staff at Sunset Beach was attentive, friendly and does everything then can to make your visit the one you are looking for. The beach is quiet and off the beaten path, so you don't feel like you are on a Spring Break party week. If you want to party, though, it is an easy cab ride into town or else a quick ride on the resort bus to Pueblo Bonito's sister resort.

The food was good, but the vistas, the staff and the facility made this a place I will come back to.

Room Tip: Rooms are spacious regardless, but the Executive Suite feels like a small apartment.

We had a lovely stay the Sunset Beach. I am going to break this up into sections to make reading it a little easier.

1. Service was top notch A+! I felt like the entire staff really went out of their way to go the extra mile for us on this stay. Honestly, we are picky travelers and this trip was no different. We needed extra pillows in the room, no problem, they delivered them in just a a few minutes. The cart drivers were friendly and expedient. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient; they were able to give us a late check out on our last day. The concierge and bellmen were very helpful as we needed to use them on several occasions. The pool servers and bartenders were very friendly and helpful. On our last day, at the adult pool, our server took our order before happy hour because he knew it was going to be busy.

2. The room was decent B+! We booked an extra week for about 570$ on RCI so I can't complain that we didn't get the best room in the resort. We had a nice room. It was large and clean with a kitchenette. There was no bathtub in this room and no jacuzzi on the patio. We did have a view from our room (2282). This room is slightly larger then your standard hotel style room. Ours had been updated with a samsung flatscreen tv. There was plenty of storage for our clothes and luggage.

3. The pools offer different experiences B+! The positive is you can have a different experience each day at different pools. The main pool by the beach is the biggest and the busiest. Chairs are at a premium after 10am. Unlike other TA reviewers there, I never noticed a huge problem with people reserving chairs with towels. However, if you show up to the pool at noon it's going to be a challenge. you'll found a lounger, but it might not be your first choice.
The Adults only pool is oddly next to the kids pool. That said it's quiet and a nice relaxing spot. NO crazy music or party animals. The pool was clean an perfectly warm.
The SkyPool was fun. overlooking the entire resort, this pool has a laid back atmosphere in the morning and got pretty rowdy a few days we were there towards the afternoon. If you want to do the partying then the upper deck is for you. The lower deck doesn't get the music blasting as loud and you have a nice view of the entire property. Carlos and Julio were our servers and did a great job. The best part of the sky pool is the hottub. Don't tell the kids, but it's actually hot! it's a little out of the way, but it's worth the trip. The skypool is the best place to catch the sunset.
The beach A! Obviously if you could swim it would be perfect, but the beach is great. It's uncrowded and really quiet to listen to the surf. We spent a few days down there chillin in the sand.

4. Restaurants B for the Bistro. We didn't eat at any of the other restaurants or theme nights. The service was great, but the food is what you would expect from an all-inclusive. We did not do the all inclusive and mainly ate lunch by the pool. The nachos and burgers were good. nothing fancy and nothing wrong with them. We ate in our room for breakfast and dinners. I am a chef so I am a little picky. I would rather eat my own food in my room with out all the hustle at the resort restaurants.

5. Gym was great A+! This is one of the better resort gyms I have seen. It had everything you would need for a great workout. Plenty of weights and machines. The cardio equipment was in good working order. The activity room was great for stretching. We never did spinning or yoga as you had to pay an extra 15$ for those classes. The use of the gym was free. My only wish for the wishlist would be for a foam roller to use after a good workout.

6. Wifi was B+! while we were there they claimed to be upgrading their wifi. So there was no extra charge for it. However, it was only available by the pools and in the main building. Connectivity was good mostly considering how many people were probably on at the same time. There was no wifi in the room.

7. Other resorts/shuttle service B+! The shuttle setup is pretty organized. You should go to sunrise coffee and get your ticket for the time you want then just show up a few minutes before. They take you down to Pueblo bonito rose on medano beach. Do the same thing to get back. They leave every hour. We used this once although we weren't big fans of the Rose beach. Too crowded and too many vendors.

8. Timeshare pitch! Hahahaha! we didn't do it, but don't take the first offer you can always get more. We had people gently approach us upon our arrival. After we refused the 250$ resort credit we were immediately offered 300$. We still said NO. Then a lady approached us a few days later in the CAB line. She offered us 400$ and 65$ All inclusive. We still said NO. Listen I get it, but work a deal, get more stuff. Don't take their first offer if you're going to do the presentation.

Overall we had a lovely trip and I would recommend this resort to my family or friends.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the ocean so the views will be great. We were in building 22 with was halfway bet...

One of the best things about our vacation is Carlos at the sky pool. Carlos' friendly manner makes you feel like he is delighted to see you each time. He knows what you want even before you ask for it. His sense of humor makes a day at the pool super enjoyable. Besides the beautiful views Carlos is one of the things we look forward to most on our vacation.

We are owners here and could not be happier. It is like coming home to family every time we arrive. The grounds are beautifully manicured. They have a chapel with Mass at 10am on Sundays. It is a beautiful service. The atmosphere is very peaceful. Just what we need after the hectic lives we all live. The rooms all face the ocean and you see the most magnificent sunsets. The restaurants are well managed and have delicious food and great selections. If you want to treat yourself make reservations at La Friedas. I promise you will not regret it. Out of this world great. You can also eat poolside. The people are so friendly. You always get a "hola", hello. My son and grandchildren went fishing and caught some beautiful fish. The resort cooked them for us and the Chef brought it to the table with special side dishes. Best fish I have ever eaten. We have taken our children and grandchildren. We range from ages 74 to 4 and everyone found things to do that they loved. Everyone is looking forward to our next visit. I almost forgot the pools. There are 7 and you can find the perfect one for you. In closing I would like to thank everyone that make our stays so very perfect. You are all special to us and you make us feel special!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: I don't think you can find a bad room. The way the resort was designed it gives beautiful views...

I have been to this beautiful property on at least 7 occasions and this was my most disappointing stay in terms of property condition and service. The second most annoying service encounter begins as soon as you arrive at the property. The room assignment procedure is slow, inconvenient, dated, and just über annoying. You almost want to leave the property before your vacation begins. They need to find a better system period.
The property is beginning to show it's age and service staff is just not up to previous standards. The rooms need general maintenance touch ups and dirty worn sofa sleeper couches need to be replaced immediately. Tiles in the main pool are broken and in need of immediate repair. The showers in the women's spa area were a construction zone and only one was operable. As beautiful as this property was in the beginning it's disappointing to see they have not maintained their initial standards throughout the entire property.
This property becomes more costly for guests who like to go into town on a frequent basis. The food at the resort is mediocre. The cocktails & food reminds me somewhat of a cruise ship vacation. The overpriced deli is the best place to pick up snacks, beverages and some room food prep items if you can't make a Sam's or Costco stop.
Clearly there is a profitable relationship with the taxi company as the quick ride in to town in minimum of $10 , one way for 2 people and there is no haggling. There is no other way to describe it but a complete rip off. The free shuttle to town is crowded as drops you off at the sister property which is not a short or easy walk to downtown Cabo.
The most annoying aspect of the property is the total bombardment of time-share people. The harassment never stops for your entire stay. From the moment you check in they hassle you about signing up for the breakfast or lunch time share meeting. Then you're hassled while trying to eat lunch or have a cocktail while you're waiting for your room. They bother you throughout all areas period. The worst though is in the "supposed" sanctuary of the spa. Here they talk loud in quite areas, walk in while people are changing in locker rooms and the best is while you're attempting to enjoy
your jacuzzi (in compromised clothing at best) they just bust in continuing their sales pitch making everyone except themselves uncomfortable. Shame on Pueblo Bonito for allowing the time share company to put their guests on the defense for their entire stay. The aggressive high pressure sales and hard closers (mostly rude & mean if you don't buy or upgrade) make me want to tell everyone to stay away!!! Unless this ownership makes some business decisions it will ruin an previously exceptional property.

I was recommended to stay at PBSB from a co-worker and boy even though I never been to Cabo I'm glad we stayed here, first when we arrived the lobby is impressive and it made you feel at a upscale 5 Star immediately, then we got a free upgrade to a Executive suite beach front, nice spacious 1500 sqft room with balcony facing the ocean. The pools are nice and the ambiance depends on you quite boring or loud and fun, many pools to choose, didn't take the all inclusive because we do like to venture out and we are not heavy eaters or drinkers. We didn't mind paying the 24.00 dollar round trip to town In a Taxi we figured it was better then renting a car everyday and the free bus shuttle to Rose to swim at the beach was perfect. I can say this was one of the best trips I've made and Thanks to RCI Global points we had access to this excellent resort. The Staff was courteous at all times and very helpful, just do yourself a favor don't come broke to Cabo and start complaining, if you don't want to spend money stay home and watch the travel Channel for a week you save money that way. We will be back in 3 months, we fell in love with this place. And by the way I sell timeshare and if you bought in this place my hat off to you. This place Rocks!
